Partick Thistle's Zander MacKenzie netted his first professional goal late in the second half

Partick Thistle claimed their first league win of the season thanks to goals from Harry Milne, Aidan Fitzpatrick and Zander MacKenzie, which extended their unbeaten run against Queen's Park to nine matches.

Milne’s early header from a Kyle Turner corner and Fitzpatrick’s second half piledriver – which deflected wickedly past Jack Wills in goal – were due reward for Thistle's supremacy.

The icing on the cake was provided by MacKenzie’s lovely side-footed volley with just a couple of minutes left, with the 19-year-old's finish putting a deserved gloss on the home side’s efforts.

The simplicity of the opener will sting the visitors. Turner’s inswinging delivery was nonchalantly nodded past Wills by Milne, with questions being asked of the visiting defence as to how he was given so much space.

Queen's improved slightly after the break but were undone by the huge deflection which took Fitzpatrick’s powerful effort looping into the net.

If that was fortuitous, Thistle’s third was anything but. There was a mass of bodies as the ball dropped to MacKenzie at the edge of the area but, with excellent technique, he arrowed a well-placed strike beyond Wills.

It is an important win for Partick – their first in the league, moving them up to fifth – and a disappointing defeat for Queen's Park, whose fans would have expected more.
