Oli Shaw's double was not enough for Hamilton following Airdrie's late fightback

Airdrieonians and Hamilton Academical shared the points in a Lanarkshire derby that came alive in the second period with four goals.

Jamie Barjonas and Oli Shaw went close for John Rankin’s hosts, before Airdrie responded as Lewis McGrattan’s snapshot was denied.

However, Oli Shaw found the net just two minutes into the second half after a mix-up in the Airdrie defence, then the striker then slotted in his second after 77 minutes to put the hosts two in front.

Rhys McCabe called for reinforcements. Aaron Reid came off the bench and produced a sublime header with his first touch. Then Murray Aiken - another substitute - rifled in a leveller after his initial effort was saved.

Hamilton went in search for a winner and did go close, however Airdrie will feel the better of both sides and encouraged by their response after falling behind.

What they said

Hamilton Academical head coach John Rankin: "It's two points dropped. Airdrie had good possession but I don't really think they caused us much of a threat.

"We could have won it with a chance at the end, the goalkeeper makes a good save but we never should have been in that position in the first place."

Airdrieonians player-manager Rhys McCabe: "We should never be in that position in the first place. I thought we were the better team, but sloppiness and slack mistakes on our end gifted Hamilton two goals.

"The fighting spirit and mentality to get back into the game, we've got to be pleased."
