    Manchester United 2-0 Liverpool

There were exactly 80 seconds between the two Manchester United goals.

Will we see any more after the break?

    Tottenham 0-0 Everton

Tottenham have their first attack but the offside flag brings that to an abrupt end.

Everton are moving the ball around nicely so far, keeping it on the ground with the wind swirling around the stadium. Lots of chasing for the hosts to do.

    Manchester United 2-0 Liverpool

We are back under way at Leigh Sports Village.

    No changes at half time.

The first real attack of the game produces the first goal and it's Khadija Shaw who breaks the deadlock.

The Jamaican latches onto a cross from Kerstin Casparij from the right hand side, nodding the ball back across the keeper and into the bottom corner.

    Perfect start for the hosts.

    Tottenham 0-0 Everton

A confident start by Everton but Tottenham just about get the ball away after a few early nervous moments in defence.

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Premier League goalkeeper on Sky Sports

Liverpool were on the front foot in the opening 20 minutes of the game. They just need to do that more now.

But they've conceded two goals now and will be quite stretched. That will work in Manchester United's favour.

To be blunt, it's not been a great football match in terms of quality.

United haven't played particularly well despite being in complete control but have done enough.

But Liverpool, obviously affected by injuries, have often very little in response. You struggle to see how they can get back into it.

  9. A sweet fixture for Toffeespublished at 12:58 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December

    Tottenham v Everton (13:00 GMT)

Hopefully we're in for an entertaining contest between Tottenham and Everton. The stats certainly suggest we could be...

Tottenham have scored multiple goals in four of their last five home league games - but they have also conceded more goals than any other WSL side this season (21).

These two teams have faced the most shots following a high turnover in the league this season (23 each), so expect both teams to get their fair share of opportunities.

One player Tottenham must keep a close eye on is Katja Snoeijs who, with her spot-kick against Liverpool, has now scored at least seven more goals than any Toffees team-mate (11) since her WSL debut for Everton in September 2022.

This is a fixture that Everton tend to do well in, with Tottenham winning just one of 10 WSL meetings - last beating today's opponents in December 2021.

    Flag waving at Man City

Pre-match Man City mascots wave a flag for each starting player.

But the wind has just picked up again and those flags are acting as giant parachutes. An adult has had to help out a smaller, lighter child keep their flag grounded.

Expect some tricky football - and flag-waving - conditions in the North West.

Leicester City boss Amandine Miquel has urged her side to give Man City "trouble" when they travel to Manchester this afternoon.

The Foxes rank lowest for shots on target (16), goals (2) and expected goals (4.4) in the WSL this season, but Miquel insists that Leicester will be looking to "pose a threat" away to the title challengers.

"We have been struggling offensively, so although it's a strong team, we do want to pose a threat," said Miquel.

"We want to give them trouble when in possession, and to do this we need to be really well organised when we don't have the ball, to ensure they don't get close to our goal."

  12. 'Different type of break' - Taylorpublished at 12:55 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December

Man City boss Gareth Taylor says that the recent international break proved a chance for his players and staff to "recover and shut down mentally and physically."

The side have made a strong start to the 2024/25 campaign, having lost just once in the WSL, as well as sealing early qualification for the Champions League quarter finals.

Taylor believes that the break was a well needed opportunity to "reflect" on the first months of the season.

"We get an opportunity to get a breather and reflect on the first third of the season," he said.

"It was a different type of break because it feels like Hammarby was a long time ago with that game on a Thursday and then nothing at the weekend, but it allowed even international players two or three days to recover and shut down mentally and physically."

It was a pretty even first half up until the two goals, but those goals have switched the momentum. Manchester United have had a bounce in their step since and finished the half strongly.

United can now afford to rest some of their players in the second half while Liverpool could be looking for a change in formation here.

  14. Will Everton build on derby delight?published at 12:53 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December

    Tottenham v Everton (13:00 GMT)

It's seventh against ninth at Brisbane Road this afternoon, as Tottenham host Everton with both sides aiming to distance themselves from the bottom places.

Just two points separate the bottom six teams and, with two wins from their first eight games of the campaign, Tottenham begin the day one point better off than the visitors.

But while Tottenham have lost five of their last six WSL games, Everton earned their first win against local rivals Liverpool 1-0 last time out - and they could win back-to-back league games for the first time in 12 months here.

Manchester City v Leicester (13:00 GMT)

    Emma Sanders

I don't think Manchester City could do too much more, they were disappointed when they drew with Arsenal at the start of the season but that was right at the start and such a tough couple of weeks.

I think they are pretty happy. The expectation is to win the league and they will believe they can win the league. They are in a really good position.

In their last WSL fixture Man City lost to rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, a result that left them five points off the pace in the title race.

Tenth placed Leicester City visit Joie Stadium this afternoon having never before beaten Man City in the WSL, losing all six encounters between the sides and only scoring once.

With Chelsea facing a tough task at home to high flying Brighton later on today, is this an opportunity for Gareth Taylor's side to cut the gap to the top?

The most important thing for Liverpool now is scoring the next goal. If Manchester United get a third goal, they will believe that this game is done and dusted.

But United are looking more like a team now and they smell blood.
