Liverpool are still plugging away and launch an attack with a quick break. But the eventual shot by Cornelia Kapocs is straight at the keeper.

The Reds have had more touches in the opposition box than United, but without looking overly threatening.

You could tell by the celebrations from Marc Skinner just how much that second goal meant and how important those three points are for these two sides.

Manchester United have a two-goal cushion and they also have a lift and freedom. They are expressing themselves now.

    Manchester United 2-0 Liverpool

United are hunting a game-killing third goal before half-time.

A half-cleared corner falls to Geyse, but she takes her volley first time and skews it wide.

    Manchester United 2-0 Liverpool

After an even opening 20 minutes or so, United were just starting to take control before those two quickfire goals.

As we stand, they will be moving up to third in the WSL.

    Manchester United 2-0 Liverpool

The opening goal was Elisabeth Terland's fourth strike in the WSL this season.

It takes her clear of Grace Clinton as United's top scorer in the league this season, and joint-third in the division overall.

A devastating two minutes for Manchester United!

Those fans behind the goal are still singing Leah Galton's name and the winger jogged back to the halfway line, stopping to do a little jiggle dance, as she celebrated with team-mates in the dugout.

Liverpool's staff were watching a replay of the second goal on the bench and manager Matt Beard stood up afterwards, flapping his arms and pacing around looking frustrated.

  7. 'What a strike from Galton'published at 12:38 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December

What a strike this is from Leah Galton. She sees where the goalkeeper is and it's a powerful shot. But it was also a great ball to Galton.

Liverpool will be so disappointed to concede two goals so close together like that.

    Manchester United 2-0 Liverpool

A remarkable period of play, and United are in total command.

They have now scored nine first half goals in the WSL this season, only Chelsea have more.

    Leah Galton (34 mins)

    Two in two minutes!

United win the ball back virtually straight from kick off, and a long ball from the back turns the Liverpool defence around.

Leah Galton streaks onto it, and hits a powerful shot that breaks through the hand of Teagan Micah and into the roof of the net.

    United delirious, Liverpool stunned.

    Breakthrough!

Liverpool are caught out playing out from the back, and Geyse's intial shot is blocked.

The rebound falls to Elisabeth Terland, and she makes no mistake with a composed finish in off the far post.

    Manchester United 0-0 Liverpool

A goalless draw suits neither side today - United need a win to move into the top three, Liverpool need a win to create a gap to the relegation place.

Geyse attempts to spark a move for United, but it tackled in the box by Ceri Holland who is up and moving fine after that knock to her ankle.

Ceri Holland's injury gives both teams an opportunity to come across to speak to their coaching staff.

United boss Marc Skinner hangs back initially while the players talk among themselves but comes in to answer a question from Gabby George.

Liverpool assistant Scott Rogers is having a big conversation with defender Gemma Bonner, who seems to be frustrated.

  13. 'Geyse hasn't delivered for United'published at 12:30 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December

    Manchester United 0-0 Liverpool

    Natasha Dowie
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Geyse is a player who frustrates me. She won the league with Barcelona and came to Manchester United with a big reputation as someone who could be the next Alessia Russo with prolific goals.

In my opinion, she hasn't delivered enough. You have to score and create more goals in that United shirt.

We have a pause in play as Liverpool's Ceri Holland is down holding her right ankle.

Matt Beard's side cannot afford too many injuries - they have just six players on the bench today due to numerous absences.

What does Ashworth leaving mean for Skinner? Or January recruitment? I wonder if United are going to lose any more players on a free this summer.

"What is going on?" Matt Beard screams at the fourth official as Liverpool felt they should have had a free-kick for a foul on Taylor Hinds.

United ended up going straight up the other end and Elisabeth Terland really should have scored.

  17. 'A big opportunity missed'published at 12:26 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December

Manchester United should have scored there. You got to hit the target from there. It's a big opportunity missed for the home side.

  18. CLOSE!published at 25 mins

    Manchester United 0-0 Liverpool

United spurn their best opening so far.

Geyse's cross from the right is missed by the heel of Leah Galton, but Elisabeth Terland makes a run around the left side and gets a shot in - well over the top.

    A good chance, missed.

Fuka Nagano is such a key player for Liverpool. She is technically so good and reads the game very well.

She was looking for that far corner with that shot there, but that is a good save from Manchester United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce.

It's a quieter afternoon at Leigh Sports Village with Storm Darragh presumably putting people off travelling this weekend.

It means there are fewer fans behind the goal which Liverpool are currently defending and United are attacking.

They have not had too much to cheer about.
