England goalkeeper Mary Earps has made history by becoming the first female professional footballer to be honoured with a waxwork at Madame Tussauds.

The Paris Saint-Germain stopper won an overwhelming majority in a public vote to determine which Lionesses star should receive a figure at the London attraction.

Madame Tussauds said it had been collaborating with the 31-year-old for more than a year before the official launch on Sunday, attended by dozens of fans. Joining family and friends for the event, the Nottingham-born player said the unveiling was "incredibly special".

Earps, who led England to the Euro 2022 title and received an MBE in May, joins figures such as Sir David Attenborough, Emmeline Pankhurst, Stormzy, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The new figure is dressed in the kit she wore in the 2023 Fifa Women's World Cup Final.

"To make this mark as the first female footballer to have a figure at Madame Tussauds London is incredibly special," Earps said. "This is not about me. This is a representation of how women's football has grown, and the trajectory it's on.

"Seeing my friends, family, and fans' reactions to the figure is absolutely amazing, they couldn't believe how accurate the features are – neither can I if I'm honest. My gran especially is amazed by it all and I'm so happy she gets to share this moment with me."

Their latest victory was a 3-0 win over Liverpool on Sunday in the WSL, which leaves them a point behind leaders Manchester City with a game in hand.

Former Tottenham captain Jenna Schillaci told the BBC’s Women’s Football Show: “Eight wins out of eight games in all competitions – it’s a perfect start in their new era.

“When you look at the team and the depth of the squad that they have got, the players they have still got to come back in – Sam Kerr, Mia Fishel and Lauren James - they are only going to get better.

“I can only see them getting better and better so I think it’s going to be difficult to stop them.”

Celtic captain Kelly Clark says her side are out to defy the odds and cause an upset against Women's Super League champions Chelsea at Celtic Park on Wednesday.

The Scottish Women's Premier League champions have suffered back-to-back defeats by Twente and Real Madrid in their first two group-stage games, while Sonia Bompastor's side sit top of Group B with two wins from two.

"Anyone that looks at the fixture has one outcome in their head," Scotland international Clark said. "It's our job to make that prediction wrong."

Elena Sadiku's side fell to a 2-0 loss against Dutch champions Twente at New Douglas Park and followed it up with a 4-0 loss in Spain to Real Madrid.

But the head coach is proud of the growth her side have made in their first foray in Europe's elite competition.

"Against Real Madrid we were confident enough to play, we got pressure on, we love the pressure and we just showed no fear in what we want to do, and that’s something I want to grow more," she said.

"I don't think we're going to have a bigger test than this, but we've talked about this within the team, this is something we've dreamed about so we have to enjoy the occasion and put the best performance in we can."

Manchester City are in action later on when they entertain Swedish side Hammarby at Joie Stadium and this very page will have all the updates from that one.
