Erling Haaland of Manchester City reacts with Francesco Acerbi of FC Internazionale at the end of the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1 match between Manchester City and FC Internazionale Milano at City of Manchester Stadium on September 18, 2024 in Manchester, England.Image source, Getty Images

Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi jokingly asked Manchester City star Erling Haaland for two shirts after Wednesday night's Champions League match. If you don't ask you don't get, I suppose.

Shirt swapping has long been a tradition in football, however, with many players taking great pride in the impressive collections they are able to build.

Some shirts are, naturally, in more demand than others, with one team even travelling to matches with several bags full to hand out on behalf of their star player.

But what exactly do players do with the shirts they acquire? And are all treated equally once the exchanges are carried out in front of the cameras?

  3. 'It's all talk at the minute, until we win games'published at 14:52 British Summer Time 19 September

Leicester City v Everton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leicester City

A final word from Leicester City boss Steve Cooper on whether playing bottom side Everton at the King Power Stadium presents an opportunity for his side to get their first Premier League win of the season: "We expect every team to be at their best. Everton have some great players and a really good manager. Like every game, it will come with some difficult challenges. We have to focus on what we can bring.

"It is a good opportunity because we've got a lot of good work going on here, so it doesn't really matter who we are playing. But it's all talk at the minute, until we win games."

Jaz, Wigan: @Jez, Bolton, it’s not that simple though. Uefa faced huge pressure from really powerful club sides that threatened to form their own league a couple of years ago. Uefa had to do something. It’ll be hard to determine whether it’s actually an improvement for a few years I think.

  5. 'No real change' to Foxes squad and Edouard 'available'published at 14:48 British Summer Time 19 September

Leicester City boss Steve Cooper says there will be "no real change" to his squad for Everton's visit this weekend: "We had a couple of bumps and bruises but we are as we were."

Cooper added that he is looking forward to new loan signing Odsonne Edouard being available for selection for the first time: "He adds good experience to the top of the pitch. He plays as a number nine, but he can play in slightly different positions. We want options and Odsonne is another example of that.

"He has 'big game' experience from his time at Celtic as well. The more attacking options you can have for changes, the better. It's not just about the starting team, it's about having a variety."

  6. 'All I can do is work as hard as I can work'published at 14:45 British Summer Time 19 September

Leicester v Everton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Everton

A final word from Everton manager Sean Dyche on whether he still feels he has the backing of the club's supporters after a winless Premier League start:

"All I can do is work as hard as I can work. It's never something I've overthought. I respect the fans, I make that abundantly clear, the way they've supported me, the team and the club over many years before my time. All I do is work as hard as I can to put a team together to win games.

"In 20 months there have been some trying circumstances. Handling that, among trying to win games, among the development, among trying to save money - it's a big challenge.

"The idea of being hero to zero or zero to hero, it comes and goes very quickly. I try to stay steadfast to what's in front of me and that's the truth of what we're trying to achieve here."

Leicester City v Everton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leicester City

    Jean-Philippe MatetaImage source, Getty Images

Leicester City boss Steve Cooper confirmed the Premier League has not apologised for the "awful human error" made in last weekend's game against Crystal Palace, which led to Jean-Philippe Mateta's opening goal.

Cooper said: "We have seen images that showed he clearly was offside, but they froze it at the wrong time. Everything that has been seen is a false image. We showed the Premier League that they used the wrong image.

"We've had a massive error go against us and we don't want it to go under the radar because that's not fair on the players or supporters. Errors like that shouldn't happen."

Leicester had taken a 2-0 lead at Crystal Palace before Mateta’s close-range finish from Tyrick Mitchell’s low cross was allowed to stand following a video assistant referee (VAR) check.

The France Olympic striker then scored a stoppage-time penalty to rescue a draw for Palace at Selhurst Park.

  9. Cooper incoming...published at 14:35 British Summer Time 19 September

Leicester City v Everton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leicester City

Leicester City manager Steve Cooper is no stranger to the pressures of managing a side in the lower reaches of the Premier League, following his run as Nottingham Forest boss.

Cooper has been very vocal today about a refereeing decision that went against his Foxes side in their recent 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace, which only served to heap further pressure on newly promoted Leicester, as they search for a first win since returning to the top flight following last season's Championship title...

  10. Ipswich 'going to be tough opposition'published at 14:28 British Summer Time 19 September

Southampton v Ipswich Town (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Southampton

Southampton manager Russell Martin on playing Ipswich Town, who are one of the three promoted teams, alongside the Saints and Leicester City:

"Every game in the Premier League is huge. They are going to be a tough opposition, they’ve really improved in terms of what they’ve recruited and they have a really excellent manager.

"It’s going to be really interesting to come up against them again in the Premier League and I think it’s a really exciting match."

  11. 'Every part of the Premier League season is critical'published at 14:25 British Summer Time 19 September

Leicester v Everton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Everton

Everton manager Sean Dyche on trying to solve the number of goals being conceded by his team and the side's winless Premier League start:

"It's been hard this week [to do because of absentees] but generally speaking we've been reaffirming why we had such a good record here last season with clean sheets and keeping games tight. A change of personnel can affect that, with injuries and illnesses and new players coming in and going out.

"We've brought in four players who are young and will grow into the Premier League, they haven't got the depth of experience that the outgoing players had, so that has to mould into the team as well. Trying to bring that altogether at once and make it work at both ends of the pitch is the challenge for me and every other manager.

"Every part of the Premier League season is critical. You don't design not to get off to a good start, no team does. We wanted to get off to a better start than we have, but we haven't, so we have to find different ways of operating and producing wins and performances."

  12. 'It’s given us loads of food for thought in terms of team selection'published at 14:21 British Summer Time 19 September

Southampton v Ipswich Town (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Southampton

Southampton manager Russell Martin was asked if his teams morale has changed since their Carabao Cup victory over Everton this week:

“Not much really. I really love the environment we have and the culture. The way the guys treat each other and the staff. Maybe it’s made a few players feel a bit lighter or externally people feel a bit better.

"We are really process driven so the way we got through the game I was really happy with some of the individual performances.

"We've analysed it, we’ve looked at it. It was a big progression from the Manchester United game in terms of response. It’s given us loads of food for thought in terms of team selection.

"I think it’s put a few players in a better place, individually.”

  14. 'It's a rare reality, but it is still a reality'published at 14:09 British Summer Time 19 September

Leicester v Everton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Everton

Everton manager Sean Dyche on preparing for games with so many players unavailable:

"It's difficult, the other day we had three players who came in ill in the morning. We just had an hour in the morning to get the ideas over to the players as best we could.

"We're hopeful that tomorrow we will get a few bodies back so at least we've got a day's preparation before we go to Leicester.

"It's a rare reality, but it is still a reality. I've not experienced this many injured and ill in such a short space of time, it's just one of those things. A lot of things seem to be big challenges for us."

  16. Team news - Branthwaite 'making progress'published at 13:58 British Summer Time 19 September

Leicester v Everton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Everton

Everton manager Sean Dyche gave an update on the players who have been struggling with illness and injuries in recent days:

"Jarrad [Branthwaite] is making progress and hopefully gets involved in a game this weekend with the under-21s, James Tarkowski - we're hopeful, he trained today. Nathan Patterson - the same as Jarrad.

"Dominic Calvert-Lewin looks OK today, he was back in on the grass so hopefully his illness has gone. James Garner is still not in because of illness.

"Idrissa [Gana Gueye] unfortunately has had a family bereavement so he won't be here. Mykolenko is through the illness and he was in today. Seamus [Coleman] is still injured and unfortunately will be out a bit longer than we hoped, we're not sure on timescales yet. Michael Keane is having a precautionary scan to make sure he's ok."

  17. Martin and Dyche coming soonpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 19 September

Southampton boss Russell Martin is currently speaking to the media. His side are joint-bottom of the Premier League with Everton.

Martin says this weekend's clash with Ipswich is 'huge'.

Everton manager Sean Dyche, whose side travel to Leicester this weekend, hasn't long since taken his seat at Finch Farm.

We've got quotes coming up from both shortly.

  18. Chelsea have 'top players - in quality and quantity'published at 13:50 British Summer Time 19 September

West Ham v Chelsea (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    West Ham United

    Julen LopeteguiImage source, Getty Images

A final word from Julen Lopetegui on Saturday's opponents Chelsea, who have only won one game at West Ham since March 2017: "We know we are going to play against a very big team, with top players - in quality and quantity. A good coach with good ideas and they are trying to develop one way to work and to play. We have to put the focus into our players. We know and respect them as a very big team but we have to put the focus on our strengths and our players and in our ideas too."

  19. 'I don't talk about whether we are different or not'published at 13:45 British Summer Time 19 September

West Ham v Chelsea (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    West Ham United

West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui was asked whether he was concerned about comments made about the club's style of play not being any different to that under previous manager David Moyes: "I don't talk about whether we are different, or not. We try to do our way. We try to develop our idea. For that the commitment of the players is key. They try to work hard every day. It is about the time it takes to develop, but also for sure you have to win, which helps you to believe more and to be stronger and stronger. That's why we work to win each match."

More from Lopetegui on the level of commitment shown by his players: "They are working very hard every day. This is the first step they need to develop. With this commitment, I am sure that step-by-step we are going to improve, we are going to compete better. But that platform is very important to allow you to win matches. We are keeping the good feeling the team has, while trying to improve on other things.

"All teams have things they need to improve and we are in this phase. You have to look at the end of the season where you are. The Premier League is a very long season, a very hard season. You have to compete in all different kinds of matches, different moments, so we have to be ready to be very competitive in all the season."
