Celtic will face Ukrainian side Vorskla Poltava in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier on Sunday (12:00 BST).

The Scottish champions will host both legs of the tie at Airdrieonians' Albert Bartlett Stadium, with their opponents unable to play in their home country due to the ongoing conflict with Russia.

Celtic are aiming to qualify for the group stage for the first time, while the Ukrainian champions have only made it through qualifying once in four previous attempts.

The second leg will take place on Thursday, 26 September (19:15).

Arsenal, however, still have it all to do after falling to a narrow defeat away to Swedish side BK Hacken in Gothenburg in the first leg of their Women's Champions League play-off.

Anna Anvegard's ball over the top was pounced on by Tabitha Tindell who finished the tie's only goal with composure past away goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger in the 77th minute.

Clarissa Larisey had a similar opportunity earlier in the contest when she went round Zinsberger when through on goal but could only find the side netting.

Alessia Russo was one of several Arsenal players unable to convert key chances as they came up short against a side that reached the quarter-finals last season.

The Gunners will be hoping to put the memories of last season's defeat to Paris FC in the qualifying rounds when they host BK Hacken in the return leg at Meadow Park on Thursday, 26 September.

Manchester City's men's team may have failed to score in Wednesday night's Champions League opener at home to Inter Milan, but there were no such problems for City's women's side.

They all but sealed their place in the group stage of the Women's Champions League with a 5-0 victory at Paris FC in the first leg of their play-off.

City travelled to Paris without record goalscorer Khadija Shaw after failing to file a visa application, but they did not miss her as Vivianne Miedema scored on her debut.

The Dutch striker, who joined in the summer after seven years at Arsenal, fired City ahead with a first-half volley before England international Jess Park quickly doubled the lead, adding the finishing touch to a sublime backheel by Lauren Hemp in the box.

Mary Fowler added a third for Gareth Taylor's side shortly after the break, while Park added her second of the night before Chloe Kelly bundled in from close range to round off the scoring 10 minutes from time.

City will welcome Paris FC to the Joie Stadium on Thursday, September 26 for the return leg.

Ange Postecoglou has condemned social media abuse aimed at footballers while backing Wales forward Brennan Johnson to thrive at Tottenham Hotspur.

Johnson reportedly deactivated his Instagram account because of criticism in the wake of his club’s derby defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.

Postecoglou says the 23-year-old, who has scored five Spurs goals since joining from Nottingham Forest last September, is “probably lacking a bit of confidence”.

But the Tottenham boss says it is “sad” that abuse on social media has become commonplace.

“I hate how we’ve just normalised all that stuff,” Postecoglou said.

“I’ve been around long enough and even when I was playing, I copped a fair bit. But it was usually on the terraces and then the game was over and you’d go home.

“You’re talking about a young guy who is probably lacking a bit of confidence at the moment. Things haven’t gone his way.

“But he comes here every day, he’s working his backside off, he’s asking for feedback, he’s doing everything right, he’s trying so hard to become the player he wants to be. It’s hurting him a lot.

“It’s not like he’s out on the town and he doesn’t care and he rolls up late. So what’s his crime? His crime is he isn’t performing at the level that people expect of him.”

There was more good news out of Manchester United yesterday following their 7-0 victory over Barnsley in midweek.

Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund have both returned to training.

Both have been struggling with hamstring problems. Mount picked up his during the second game of the Premier League season at Brighton, Hojlund's absence dates back to the pre-season match against Arsenal in Los Angeles in July.

United manager Erik ten Hag is due to speak to the media later this afternoon ahead of the trip to Crystal Palace, so we should get an update then as to whether the pair will be involved at Selhurst Park.

On Wednesday, his Dortmund side were struggling at home to Club Brugge in their Champions League opener - that was until they brought him on in the 68th minute.

Gittens scored Dortmund's first two - his opener may have been a fortunate deflection, but his second was a brilliant effort after performing a multitude of step-overs before cutting on to his right.

Inspired by his performance Dortmund ended up comfortable 3-0 winners, while Gittens was named player of the match.

  17. Man City must rediscover cutting edge against Arsenalpublished at 10:27 British Summer Time

Manchester City suffered the rare disappointment of a shut out against an impressive Inter Milan in the Champions League - before thoughts turned instantly to Sunday's colossal Premier League meeting with closest rivals Arsenal.

The Gunners were the last side to keep City out at Etihad Stadium in March when manager Mikel Arteta appeared to set up in a manner designed to frustrate Pep Guardiola's side in a goalless draw.

Inter followed suit with similar results and now City will hope to rediscover their lost cutting edge - albeit for only one game - against the north London side.

Will Arsenal and Arteta adopt a bolder strategy on Sunday or will it be same again?

The stage is set for Erling Haaland to go in search of his 100th goal for Manchester City after being thwarted and shackled by Inter's iron defensive discipline, the Italians also showing enough threat on the break to encourage Arsenal.

City had their chances, especially two late headed opportunities for substitute Ilkay Gundogan, and they will be confident they will show a more ruthless edge at the weekend.

Arsenal have shown steel and resilience to emerge with wins from two tough away assignments at Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur but this will be their sternest test yet.

The stakes are always huge in this fixture and they will be for both sides once more, with City intent on making up for this rare blank scoresheet to strike a crucial blow in the title race.

  19. 'I love English football...they leave you alone to get on with your job'published at 10:14 British Summer Time

    Man City 0-0 Inter Milan

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola offered a ringing endorsement of his club right at the end of his post-match press conference last night.

The exchange took place in Italian, when a journalist covering Inter Milan tried to confirm that Guardiola had come close to coaching Inter after they had won the Treble under Jose Mourinho in 2010.

    Guardiola said he hadn't.

This prompted a follow-up to find out whether Guardiola might one day manage in Italy.

"I love Italy but I really enjoy being here," he said.

"I love English football. It is fantastic. I really enjoy it. They leave you alone to get on with your job. That doesn’t happen anywhere else.

"This is a great club. I really feel good here. I am pleased to be here."

Guardiola's City contract expires at the end of the season - during the Club World Cup. He has also been linked with the vacant England manager's job.

That answer doesn't suggest he will be leaving our shores any time soon.
