It's great to see Leanne Kiernan get a start tonight for the Republic of Ireland.

Missing out on selection for the World Cup last summer was heartbreaking for her as she lost her fitness battle to have a proper shot at making the plane to Australia.

She's had a really tough time with injuries but ended the season on fire for Liverpool, so it will be interesting to see if she can carry that form onto the international stage.

And what a stage it is!

The National football stadium here in Solna, Stockholm is a beauty.

The Friends Arena is the home ground of Swedish club side AIK Fotboll, it has a retractable roof, holds a capacity of 50,000 and is the largest stadium in Scandinavia.

Given the calibre of opposition, stepping up to League A was always going to be a big challenge for the Republic of Ireland.

However, despite no wins at the World Cup last summer, they put in strong showings against Australia and Canada (who are both in a similar ball park to France, England and Sweden) so will be disappointed with how things have panned out so far.

Despite a bottom place finish looking more than likely, and could be confirmed later this evening, the Irish still have a great chance to qualify for the Euros with a guaranteed play-off to come, so that should help ease any pressure they are feeling.

  18. McCabe fit as Littlejohn returns for Sweden gamepublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 4 June

Sweden v Republic of Ireland (17:30 BST)

Republic of Ireland boss Eileen Gleeson has confirmed both Katie McCabe and Ruesha Littlejohn are fit to feature against Sweden in Tuesday's Euro 2025 qualifier in Solna.

Littlejohn missed the 3-0 defeat by Sweden at the Aviva Stadium on Friday night, while captain McCabe was substituted late on, raising questions of whether she would be fit for Tuesday.

But Gleeson allayed those fears, citing the reason for taking off her skipper as precautionary after her gruelling season for club and country, which featured an end-of-season friendly in Melbourne with Arsenal in May.

Gleeson said: "Katie is fit to play but what you’re seeing is an accumulation of fatigue, not just her trip to Australia, but her long season, from the World Cup straight into the WSL, to the Nations League, a trip to Australia, European qualifiers and it was a tough game on Friday.

"We have Ruesha back in which is a great addition, and she is an extra player we can select from.

"We know Denise [O'Sullivan] is out and we're checking what levels everyone is at, who can give us 90 minutes and who can come off the bench."

  19. Welcomepublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 4 June

Sweden v Republic of Ireland (17:30 BST)

Hello and welcome to tonight’s Euro 2025 qualifying coverage.

Before Northern Ireland host Portugal at Mourneview Park in Group B3 we’re off to Solna as the Republic of Ireland take on Sweden in Group A3.

Eileen Gleeson’s side fell to their third consecutive defeat in qualifying on Friday night in a 3-0 loss to tonight’s opponents Sweden.

The Republic are yet to score a goal or put points on the board as they sit bottom of this star-studded group but a play-off semi-final is banked should they finish outside the top two after such a successful Nations League campaign.

However finishing bottom of the group will result in a return to League B for next year’s Nations League.

With three matchdays to go, can the Republic bounce their way back into contention tonight and make life difficult for the World Cup semi-finalists on their home turf?

We’ll have live text updates from Solna before live video and text commentary from Mourneview Park.
