The penalty decision has divided opinion. Matthew Upson felt it should not have been given, but what do you think? Hit thumbs up for given, down for not so.

"The huge talking point is the penalty," he said. "I just think Dumfries is so hard done by. He doesn’t actually kick out into the challenge, he just puts his foot up and Kane kicks through.

"For me, it shouldn’t go to a VAR review and it should be an on-field decision. It was a really poor use of VAR."

What a moment for Harry Kane. He missed a penalty as England lost to France in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup.

But after being fouled by Denzel Dumfries last night, he stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to cancel out Xavi Simons' opener and make it 1-1 in Dortmund.

England captain Harry Kane on reaching the Euro 2024 final: "It feels pretty special, an unbelievable achievement. Our first [final] on foreign soil as well. We can be really proud of that.

"Of course, there’s that feeling that there’s one more to go, it’s going to be a massive game on Sunday and we can’t wait for it."

On his first-half penalty: "It was a tough moment. My foot was throbbing, to be honest, so I was just making sure I was getting the numbness back. I like to step up in those occasions.

"I practice penalties a lot and they can be the difference between winning and losing games, so you have to make sure that your mindset is right."

Ollie Watkins came on for just his second appearance of the tournament and what an impact by the Aston Villa striker, who had to work his way up the English football pyramid before earning his chance with England.

"It was unbelievable," he told the BBC. "So many emotions came to me, but as soon as I saw it go in the bottom corner, it was the best feeling ever!

"I've worked so hard to get this point and I've been ready. I've been waiting, sitting on the bench."

  7. England celebrations at final whistlepublished at 07:14 British Summer Time 11 July

    Netherlands 1-2 England

What a journey it's been for England in Germany. Who would have thought after their opening game, an unconvincing 1-0 win over Serbia, that Gareth Southgate and his players would go on to reach the final.

As BBC presenter Guy Mowbray said last night, "teams that win tournaments, grow in tournaments".

  8. Late Watkins winner sends England into Euro 2024 finalpublished at 07:06 British Summer Time 11 July

England will face Spain in the Euro 2024 final in Berlin on Sunday after a last-minute strike from substitute Ollie Watkins sealed victory over the Netherlands.

Gareth Southgate's side looked to be going into extra time for the third successive game after Harry Kane's contentious first-half penalty equalised a thunderous early strike from Xavi Simons until Watkins struck.

England dominated the first half, with Phil Foden outstanding, hitting the post with one long-range effort and drawing a fine save from Dutch keeper Bart Verbruggen.

The Netherlands, who saw Denzel Dumfries' header hit the bar before the break, took control after the break and it required important interventions from keeper Jordan Pickford to keep England level.

England were facing another extra 30 minutes until a superb late strike on the turn from Watkins, on for Kane, sent England into their second successive European Championship final on a dramatic night in Dortmund.
