This ref has no control of the game. Does he know that not every foul has to be a yellow?

  2. 'Was there enough contact? I don't think so'published at 20:38 BST

    Tottenham 1-0 Villarreal

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live at Tottenham Hotspur stadium

As a former centre forward myself, you are trying to get your foot across the defender as the challenge comes in. Was there enough contact to make Richarlison go down like that? I don't think so. He made the most of it.

As a forward I can tell what Richarlison is trying to do. It's not a foul for me.

  4. Postpublished at 20:37 BST

    Tottenham 1-0 Villarreal

It's a foul on Richarlison that has prompted a check for a penalty.

He tries to step across the defender and draw the foul but there's not enough in it for the VAR to overturn the on-field decision.

    Check complete.

  5. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:36 BST

    Tottenham 1-0 Villarreal

Oh this is getting a bit silly now.

Santiago Mourino gets his revenge on Xavi Simons with a challenge of his own and he goes into the book for it.

While all that's going on, VAR are having a look at a potential penalty for Spurs.

Bedlam all over the pitch. Tackles flying in everywhere.

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:35 BST

    Tottenham 1-0 Villarreal

Three yellow cards in the space of about five minutes.

This time it's Santi Comesana who is into the book for a foul on Lucas Bergvall.

  8. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:34 BST

    Tottenham 1-0 Villarreal

Now Richarlison is into the referee's book.

He lunges at Juan Foyth with the Villarreal captain taking his time over playing the ball out from the back.

  9. goal

GOAL - Real Madrid 1-1 Marseillepublished at 20:33 BST

    Kylian Mbappe (penalty, 28 mins)

Kylian Mbappe continues his fine start to the season by bringing Real level from the spot.

The penalty was given after some fancy feet from Rodrygo proved too much for Geoffrey Kondogbia and he could only foul the Brazilian.

Villarreal do get numbers forward when they break. They do look dangerous on the counter. They're giving Tottenham a real game here.

  11. goal

GOAL - Benfica 2-1 Qarabagpublished at 20:31 BST

    Leandro Andrade (30 mins)

Maybe it's not over after all!

The ball is sent into the box and breaks kindly for Leandro Andrade before he hammers it into the corner.

Pape Sarr goes for it from just outside the box.

It's a powerful strike but Luiz Junior gets down to his right to save.

Callum, London: RE Nicholas 20:23 Whilst Ange's domestic record wasn't great, I'm not sure it's fair to attack his European tactics... they're the reason Spurs are even playing tonight.

    Real Madrid 0-1 Marseille

It was Dean Huijsen getting a little too comfortable on the ball before dropping it off to Arda Guler in a position where he didn't really want it.

Still plenty to do from there but Xabi Alonso will be fuming.

  16. 'Big opportunity missed'published at 20:26 BST

    Tottenham 1-0 Villarreal

    Alan Shearer

That pass right in his path. He doesn't have to move, he just has to get the bend on it. That's a big opportunity missed.

  17. 'Villarreal should be level'published at 20:26 BST

    Tottenham 1-0 Villarreal

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live at Tottenham Hotspur stadium

That was a golden opportunity for Buchanan. Romero did well initially to get back and snuff the threat out from Villarreal, but then it was a sloppy pass to Pepe who played it out left for Buchanan. The winger goes for accuracy and tries to pick out the far corner but he puts it wide. It's a horrible miss - Villarreal should be level.

  18. CLOSE!published at 20:26 BST

    Tottenham 1-0 Villarreal

    Oooooh.

Cristian Romero can't clear the ball in a sea of yellow shirts and Nicolas Pepe puts it on a plate for Tajon Buchanan to his left but the Canadian can't get his shot on target, dragging it just wide of the post.

  19. goal

GOAL - Real Madrid 0-1 Marseillepublished at 20:25 BST

    Timothy Weah (22 mins)

    Now then!

Arda Guler has the ball softly nicked off him in his own half from Mason Greenwood. He sprints before finding Timothy Weah in this box and he powers it beyond Thibaut Courtois.

    Great finish.

Villarreal are not really allowing Tottenham to play through them in the centre of the pitch, Everything is coming out wide at the moment.
