  1. 'Nuno sounds the alarm bells at Forest'published at 14:53 British Summer Time 15 August

Nottingham Forest v Brentford (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Nuno Espirito Santo picks his words carefully and 48 hours before the start of the season he opted to sound the alarm bells.

Like all managers, when he wants to get his message across he acts and, ahead of Forest's opener against Brentford on Sunday, he voiced his concerns.

Speaking about his doubts and how the club have lost an opportunity to build on last season, the former Wolves manager publicly aired his fears - something he had already privately told the club.

Nuno is regarded as being guarded during press conferences and, for the Portuguese, it was explosive.

He trusts his squad but he feels the squad lacks the required depth and quality to compete on four fronts - ahead of their Europa League campaign - and as animated as he has ever been.

The club could spend close to £100m on Omari Hutchinson, James McAtee and Arnaud Kalimuendo in the next few days but it still has not appeased Nuno.

This all comes just five weeks after Edu was officially appointed as the club's global sporting director.

  2. Forest want 'as many options as possible' - Nunopublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 15 August

Nottingham Forest v Brentford (Sun, 14:00BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nuno Espirito Santo on the fact his squad aren't where they want to be but it should be before the Europa League starts:

"The concern is the same. The points we are going to fight for are the same for round one and round 13. The first points are always vital. How we can go game by game on our approach, that we are comfortable, that we have options.

"Dealing with doubts are the worst thing you can have in football. We have doubts, who is going to be, when are they going to come? All these things create doubts. Not only me but in the club.

"What we want is game-by-game to have as many options as possible. Europa [League] will come after and for sure it will be better but for now these games until that happens is a major concern.

"I already told the players exactly what I told publicly. Let's be stronger, let's make an extra effort, help the team. Those who are here are focused and ready to compete. What is the problem is if something happens, that's the doubt."

So every position apart from centre-backs then? With two-and-a-half weeks left in the window?

Good luck to the Forest recruitment team...

  4. Nuno's lengthy wanted listpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 15 August

Nottingham Forest v Brentford (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nuno Espirito Santo on where he believes that his squad needs to strengthen:

"I think we weed another option for the goalkeeper situation, on the defensive line full backs. I think we are OK in the centre halves.

"Dominguez is injured, Danilo is not here so we need midfielders, on the wings also. In front we have Igor [Jesus], Chris [Wood] and [Taiwo Awoniyi] but maybe another body would be good because of the amount of games."

  5. 'We need players' - Nunopublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 15 August

Nottingham Forest v Brentford (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nuno Espirito Santo's view on the state of his squad after he revealed to Sky Sports that he was 'concerned' for their first game this weekend:

"The same, concerned. Especially about the game on Sunday, we are going to play a tough game against a good team and we are short on options to give solutions that the game might need, which is our major concern."

  7. Pleased but not pleased - Moyes on transfer business so farpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 15 August

Leeds v Everton (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Everton

Everton boss David Moyes gave an assessment on the Toffees' transfer window so far: "We are pleased with the players we have added, but I am not pleased because I think I still need more. We want to continue to adding to what we have because we are short in certain areas.

"We have got some good business done but I would like more if possible."

He was asked if three or four more signings would be enough: "I could say even more possibly - but I would settle for those numbers if I can get it."

He was specifically asked about the need for a right-back: "We may try and get a right-back but at the moment we might have other priorities."

  8. 'We want Beto to score more goals'published at 14:39 British Summer Time 15 August

Leeds v Everton (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Everton

Everton boss David Moyes was asked about his recent comments on Portugese forward Beto:"I disagree with what you said [the journalist claimed Moyes had said he wasn't completely satisfied about Beto]. I don't think I did say that about Beto. But what I would say is that I want more goals from my centre-forwards and we have not scored enough in pre-season. We want him to score more goals.

"[Thierno] Barry is pushing him close and he will do, but we have to ease him in and make sure we aren't expecting too much from a young french centre-forward.

"Beto wasn't getting a game when I came in, he went on to be a star for us last season and hugely important for us."

  9. Moyes' Lingard-esque revival hopes for Grealishpublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 15 August

Leeds v Everton (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Everton

David Moyes on his latest signing Jack Grealish: "He looks the same - big calves! You will have to turn up on Monday [to see if he will be involved against Leeds].

"I think Jack can play in several positions, as a midfielder [as well as a winger]. My aim is to get Jack in a creative postion where he can score and assist goals.

"It is a big challenge for Jack and I am looking forward to seeing how he responds to it. The best one I can think of is when I brought Jesse Lingard to West Ham. He was probably not expected to be too successful, and maybe a little bit worn down, but I think he scored something around 10 goals in 12 games and got himself back in the England team.

"If Jack can do a bit of the Jesse Lingard, it will be a great story. It is a World Cup year and he is in good enough shape. I just need to get him enough time."

  10. Moyes confirms Branthwaite's absencepublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 15 August

Leeds v Everton (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Everton

David Moyes confirms the rumours that Jarrad Branthwaite has suffered an injury: "Jarrad picked up an injury in training so unfortunately we are going to miss him.

"I wouldn't give [a time frame], but I'm sure the insider inside the club will give that out.

"We've got to find out who is giving that news out. I am unhappy with it and I think all managers don't like it. It's coming from inside the building and we will find out."

Elsewhere in the squad, Moyes says he "may have" Vitaly Mykolenko, Nathan Patterson and Harrison Armstrong available for Monday's match.

  11. It was too much financially to keep Calvert-Lewin - Moyespublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 15 August

Leeds v Everton (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Everton

David Moyes on Calvert-Lewin: "I am pleased for Dom, I have had a really good relationship with him. I didn't really get a chance to deeply work with him because of injuries, I only had one or two games with him.

"We just found the financials to be too much at the time and we chose to move on. It might have been the right time for Dom as well and I'm really pleased that he has sorted himself out. He has gone to a really good club."

Moyes added that he will be pleased to see Jack Harrison on Monday, who has returned to Elland Road following his two season-long loan spells with the Toffees.

  13. Calvert-Lewin statistically one of league's worst finisherspublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 15 August

    Matthew Hobbs
    BBC Sport

Calvert-Lewin's signing is a fascinating one for Leeds. The injury-plagued Patrick Bamford failed to start a Championship match last season, making 17 appearances as a substitute, and in Calvert-Lewin Leeds have recruited a similar profile of player with a similarly questionable fitness record.

The former England international missed three months of last season and has not scored more than seven Premier League goals in any of the last four campaigns. Statistically, Calvert-Lewin can be considered the worst finisher of any forward in the top flight: since the start of 2022-23, he’s scored just 12 goals in total from an xG of 25.7 – the biggest underperformance of any player during this period (-13.7). Darwin Nunez is second on this list at -8.5.

However, the fact that Calvert-Lewin was offered a new deal by Everton shows he retains value as an effective lone target-man and he is capable of occupying defenders – particularly with Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite injured. The Toffees have won just three of 13 Premier League fixtures (D3, L7) without Branthwaite starting since his debut in 2022-23.

Sebastiaan Bornauw (centre back, Wolfsburg) - £5m

  15. 'Late decision' necessary for Bogle, but Bijol 'suspended'published at 14:26 British Summer Time 15 August

Leeds United v Everton (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Leeds United

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke also provided an injury update ahead of the season-opener against Everton: "There will be a late decision made on Jayden Bogle. He has been out for two and a half weeks now with this injury, but he was part-integrated into team training on Wednesday. He will join us for a full training session this afternoon and then it depends on how his body will react. There is still a chance for him to get minutes on Monday."

New signing Jaka Bijol is suspended for the first home game after picking up a red card in his last Serie A match for Udinese.

  16. Pep hopes Savinho will be at City 'for many, many years'published at 14:25 British Summer Time 15 August

Pep Guardiola says he hopes Savinho will be at the club for "many, many years" after the Brazil winger was linked with a move away.

No quotes from DCL yet. We will bring you them when/if they drop.

  18. Who are Leeds' striker options?published at 14:20 British Summer Time 15 August

    Leeds United

Leeds' other first-team striking options are Joel Piroe - who scored 19 goals in their Championship-winning campaign last season - and Lukas Nmecha, a summer signing from Wolfsburg.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin adds Premier League experience to Leeds' front line, but it does not look like he will be an automatic starter at Elland Road.

Patrick Bamford is also still at Leeds, but has been told he is "not part" of manager Daniel Farke's plans this season. Fellow senior forward Mateo Joseph has joined Mallorca on loan.

  19. Calvert-Lewin's turbulent summerpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 15 August

    Leeds United

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was one of 10 senior players to leave Everton on a free transfer at the end of last seasnon, although his departure from Hill Dickinson Stadium was delayed as the Toffees looked to negotiate a new deal.

They were unwilling to meet his demands, and Calvert-Lewin became a free agent. He has since been linked with a range of clubs, from Aston Villa and Newcastle to Manchester United and AC Milan.

Calvert-Lewin even reportedly sacked his representatives in an attempt to arrange a deal himself - and has now found a landing spot at Elland Road.
