  3. Amorim still not rid of the 'bomb squad'published at 12:20 British Summer Time 15 August

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport chief football news reporter

When Manchester United announced at the beginning of July that five members of their first-team squad had asked to leave and would not train with the main group, it wasn't expected that four of them would still be at the club when the new campaign began.

But that is what has happened.

Alejandro Garnacho continues to be linked with Chelsea, but as yet there has been no deal. The same is true with Antony and Real Betis, where he spent the second half of last season on loan.

Jadon Sancho has been the subject of a £20m bid from Italian side Roma, which is the most advanced situation there has been around him, while Tyrell Malacia continues to be linked with the Saudi Pro-League.

Ruben Amorim has said a decision will have to be made around any of the four still at the club when the transfer window closes on 1 September. It is still anticipated all four will leave.

  4. Yoane Wissa's futurepublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 15 August

    Brentford

It remains unclear whether Dango Ouattara's arrival will pave the way for striker Yoane Wissa to leave the Bees.

On Thursday, Brentford boss Keith Andrews said Wissa would not play in their Premier League opener at Nottingham Forest on Sunday amid doubts about his future.

Newcastle United have had an offer worth £25m plus £5m in add-ons for the 28-year-old rejected.

  6. Friday morning recappublished at 12:03 British Summer Time 15 August

The [opening Premier League] weekend is within touching distance everybody.

We've already heard from four managers this morning, lets catch up on what you might have missed:

Stay with us, there are still nine more Premier League news conferences to come this afternoon.

  7. Brentford agree club record £42.5m Ouattara movepublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 15 August

A major transfer line to emerge late on Thursday came from west London.

Brentford have agreed a club record deal worth up to £42.5m for Bournemouth forward Dango Ouattara.

The 23-year-old is set to travel to London today to have a medical.

Sources close to Ouattara told BBC Sport he wanted to leave, having not had a prominent role at Vitality Stadium.

The Burkina Faso international scored nine goals in 37 appearances in all competitions for the Cherries last season.

  8. Sancho discussions ongoingpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 15 August

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport chief football news reporter

Discussions around a potential £20m move to Italian side AS Roma for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho are continuing.

The Roma move is the most concrete United have had since it was confirmed Sancho would not be part of Ruben Amorim's first team plans this season.

Juventus have previously expressed an interest and there have been rumours around Borussia Dortmund signing Sancho for a third time but Roma now seem to be at the head of the queue.

It will be interesting to see if they can get a deal done.

United received £5m from Chelsea when the London club pulled out of an obligation to buy the 25-year-old England international, so it feels like the fee being offered by Roma would be acceptable if it didn't get reduced by making up contractual payments the Serie A outfit are not prepared to cover.

  9. The supercomputer predictions are inpublished at 11:36 British Summer Time 15 August

Stats gurus Opta have run the Premier League numbers through their infamous supercomputer, and have predicted the final table for the 2025-26 season.

They say Liverpool will retain their title, with Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea making up the top four.

Other interesting predictions see Man Utd and Spurs in the bottom half again, Crystal Palace finishing seventh and all three promoted sides suffering relegation for the third year in a row.

  10. Maresca risks frustrating players and his bossespublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 15 August

Enzo Maresca rarely says anything that could frustrate his bosses at Chelsea but pulled no punches this morning in his first media conference to preview the Premier League season.

He went public with his stance that he wants a new signing to replace defender Levi Colwill, who is expected to be out for the majority of the season after surgery on his knee.

The Italian says Colwill's influence at Stamford Bridge is underrated, going into forensic detail about how his unique ability to build up from the back is not matched by alternatives currently on the club's books.

That stance not only risks upsetting his bosses, who want him to work with what he has got, but also those very alternative options wanting the chance to step up, which include all of Wesley Fofana, Jorrel Hato, Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo, Trevoh Chalobah and Josh Acheampong.

It also would rip up the club's transfer plans to strengthen in attack, with Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho the primary target, and midfielder Xavi Simons also under consideration.

  11. Fofana could be available on Sunday - Marescapublished at 11:22 British Summer Time 15 August

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca provided a squad availability update ahead of Sunday's match: "[Wesley] Fofana could be available - we will see.

"Benoit [Badiashille] is in the process of coming back and Romeo [Lavia] is exactly the same.

    "Trevor [Chalobah] is okay."

  12. 'Tosin only player who can do Colwill's job'published at 11:13 British Summer Time 15 August

Chelsea v Crystal Palace, Sun 14:00 BST

Pressed further on who could replace the injured Levi Colwill, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca said: "When we build, we build with Levi in the middle. Last year, we played 64 games and we played 64 games with Levi and Tosin [Adarabioyo]. Now Levi is out, the only one who can do that job well is Tosin.

"We have the Premier League and Champions League. These kind of players, the rest can adapt. We have [Jorrel] Hato but he never played as the guy in the middle last season. It is not about central defenders. Yes he is a central defender, but what does he have to do? Can he do that? It is different.

"We also have Benoit [Badishille] and Wes [Fofana] who have problems, and this is why the club know exactly what I think about central defenders."

  13. Chelsea looking for 'internal' defender solutionpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 15 August

Chelsea v Crystal Palace (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Chelsea

In his first news conference of the season, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was asked about Levi Colwill, who has recently had surgery for a knee injury: "He is okay now. We are aware that he has to be out for a long time and it is a big loss for us.

"We know how important Levi was for us last season and for the way we want to play. We are able to create chances in attack if we can build in the right way and Levi was a huge part of that. Now he is out and we will try to find a different solution."

When asked if the 'different solution' would be a new signing, Maresca said: "We are trying to find a solution internally, but the club know exactly what I think - we need a central defender - but we are looking internally."

  15. Eddie Howe already ready for a breakpublished at 10:52 British Summer Time 15 August

    Ciaran Kelly
    Newcastle United reporter

The new Premier League season is just about to get under way.

But Eddie Howe was only half-joking when the Newcastle United boss said he was already “ready for a break” on Friday morning.

    Is it any wonder?

This may have been Howe’s first pre-match news conference of the season, but there only a handful of questions relating to Saturday’s trip to Villa Park. Understandably so.

The Alexander Isak saga continues to hang over the club and Howe spent much of the half-an-hour media briefing speaking about a striker who will play no part on the opening day.

    It remains an uncertain situation.

Just as Howe said he expected Isak to still be at the club when the window shuts, the Newcastle boss also recognised that the situation was out of his own hands.

Expect this one to rumble on.

Thomas Frank also confirmed that Yves Bissouma will return to his squad for this weekends match against Burnley after being left out of the midweek loss against Paris St-Germain in the Uefa Super Cup for persistent lateness.

"There's no real Tottenham supporter that would do that [to him]. You'll see the real Tottenham supporters at the stadium tomorrow backing him. I expect big cheers for him tomorrow."

Tottenham v Burnley (Sat, 15:00 BST)

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank provides a team news update ahead of the first game of the season: "Every player who was available [on Wednesday] is available for the team. Destiny [Udogie] is progressing but it's too early for him to be involved in the squad."

"I think Richy [Richarlison] was really phenomenal [against PSG], his hold-up play, his intensity, his arriving in the box was top. Of course we’re aware of his fitness situation, that is why we have monitored him closely – that’s why he didn’t play in the first [pre-season] game at Reading, but he is on it."
