Summary

  1. Postpublished at 21:13 British Summer Time 30 April

    Blackpool 0-2 Birmingham City

Jay Stansfield is a rocket up the left flank and sets the ball off for his fellow substitute Paik Seung-Ho in the box.

Harry Tyrer, however, is standing in his way and the keeper denies the Blues midfielder's strike.

It bounces out to a white shirt but it's all happening too fast and can only ricochet out for a goal kick.

Okay Griff at 20.50. I will rise to the bait! Cash in itself doesn't guarantee you success. You also need a fantastic manager (tick for Blues) and amazing recruitment (another tick for Blues). Yes, cash helps, but get the other two aspects wrong, and you are going nowhere.

Birmingham spent a lot of money - on one player, Stansfield. The rest have been shrewd low key buys and loans.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 65 mins

    Blackpool 0-2 Birmingham City

It's not Blackpool's night but perhaps some new people on the pitch can change that.

Josh Onomah, Jake Beesley and Tom Bloxham are introduced in place of Lee Evans, Ashley Fletcher and Rob Apter.

Moments before, Luke Harris came on for Kieran Dowell.

  4. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 58 mins

    Blackpool 0-2 Birmingham City

A trio of changes from Chris Davies.

Taylor Gardner-Hickman, Jay Stansfield and Paik Seung-Ho join the action.

Goal scorer Ethan Laird makes way alongside Marc Leonard and Keshi Anderson.

  5. goal

GOAL: Mansfield 4-1 Peterboroughpublished at 21:03 British Summer Time 30 April

    Will Evans (59 mins)

And the cushion is given right back.

In some style too as Will Evans sends in a wonderous, curling strike that clatters off the woodwork and into the net.

Superb stuff to pick up his double.

  6. goal

GOAL: Mansfield 3-1 Peterboroughpublished at 21:02 British Summer Time 30 April

    Ryan De Havilland (51 mins)

    There's one back...

Peterborough is on the edge of defeat but Ryan De Havilland is on the edge of the box.

From there, he cuts in a swift strike to start the long road to a comeback.

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 57 mins

    Blackpool 0-2 Birmingham City

Albie Morgan sets up Ashley Fletcher for a go at goal but Blues keeper Ryan Allsop gets a firm glove on it to keep his sheet clean.

Morgan then suffers more disappointment when he's the recipient of the first caution for the game. He doesn't complain though, he knows he was late on Christoph Klarer, who writhes in pain on the floor.

Again though, Klarer gets up for more.

Plenty of revisionism from League One fans who were saying we were “in for a shock” at the start of the season. Brilliant recruitment and solid foundation to push on.

  9. Postpublished at 20:58 British Summer Time 30 April

    Blackpool 0-2 Birmingham City

    Blackpool get a rare chance.

It's worked though to Rob Apter, who's swarmed by Blues players and lets off a shot.

He's off-balance and trying to work an angle though, being constricted by the visitors defence, and it sails wide.

Ryan Allsop deserves lots of congratulations from his team-mates as it was his ball forward that created the chance.

You just knew Keshi Anderson was going to pass it and you knew when it got to Alfie May that it was going to be a goal.

It is great to see from Birmingham, they spotted the changes from the first half and have worked out how to attack it differently.

The Blues fans are happy with that.

Those fans will feel even merrier now... if it's possible.

Just as keeper Ryan Allsop has to deal with an awkward collection at the other end, he's sending a long ball up.

The Blackpool defence doesn't really hold up and the ball ends up offered to Alfie May, a frightening prospect.

He nets it with his right foot to give his side a second. You'd expect no less from a man with his quality.

  12. Postpublished at 50 mins

    Blackpool 0-1 Birmingham City

Birmingham have started with some ferocity, maybe not the type they intended though.

They've already given away three free-kicks - albeit none in dangerous areas.

The Blues fans are still chanting away though. Singing, clapping, merry as can be.

I don't know why everyone is so shocked that Birmingham are so good. They spent so much, I'm more shocked they aren't smashing most teams 4 or 5-0.

    Blackpool 0-1 Birmingham City

    Steve Thompson
Former Blackpool assistant manager on BBC Radio Lancashire

Blackpool have got to push up the pitch and make it scrappy.

Blackpool have gone with three at the back, they have changed their shape for the second half.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 46 mins

    Blackpool 0-1 Birmingham City

Steve Bruce has decided to make a switch from the Blackpool bench.

Hayden Coulson replaces James Husband for the second-half.

  16. SECOND-HALFpublished at 46 mins

    Blackpool 0-1 Birmingham City

Birmingham are 45 minutes or so away from breaking the EFL record and as one of you have just told us (20:39), getting one over on their big local rivals Aston Villa.

They already took the League One record from Wolves on Sunday.

They are making a habit of upsetting teams in the neighbourhood - West Bromwich Albion best watch out in the Championship next year.

Can Blackpool do anything about it? The second-half is underway.

  17. As it stands - record is fallingpublished at 20:43 British Summer Time 30 April

    HT: Blackpool 0-1 Birmingham

To recap, Reading's EFL points record is 106.

What are Blues on right now? 108. They've still got a game on Saturday to go!

But there's only one goal in this and Blackpool can still rob them of that record, at least for tonight.

Though it's going to take a massive change in the second half for them to do so.

Not only will Birmingham City overtake Reading's EFL points in a single season record (106), but they will overtake Second City neighbours Aston Villa's record of most wins in the third tier (32).

  19. 'You'd expect Bruce to make a change'published at 20:37 British Summer Time 30 April

    HT: Blackpool 0-1 Birmingham City

    Darren Carter
Ex-Birmingham midfielder on BBC Radio WM

The goal sums up Blues' first half, total control and total confidence.

But they need to press home this advantage as you won't expect Blackpool to be this poor in the second half.

You would expect Steve Bruce to make a change at half-time.

  20. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:32 British Summer Time 30 April

    Mansfield 3-0 Peterborough

Mansfield were thumped by Blues last time out by a 4-0 scoreline but tonight, call them the deliverers.

Can Posh mount a comeback or is their whimpering end to the season becoming a high-pitched scream?
