For the record in 1975-76, Lincoln City set the record in the Football League with 74 points - when you convert the 32 wins and 10 draws to the three points for a win, we jointly hold the record with Reading, for at least another hour and a half.

    Oo-er, that was quick!

George Maris is in the right place (that place being the post) at the perfect time (that time being just the fourth minute) to nudge Dom Dwyer's pass into the net.

    Great start for the hosts.

    Mansfield 0-0 Peterborough

We are at that part of the season where not a lot really matters for those who have nothing to play for - but that doesn't mean the game won't be memorable.

Someone who will be remembering the fray over at Mansfield is keeper Owen Mason. He's making his debut in goal for the Stags tonight.

While many eyes might be on Bloomfield Road, there is more than just Birmingham City's record chase that deserves some attention.

Mansfield Town left St Andrew's with their heads hanging on Sunday while Blues doused their manager in champagne, and Nigel Clough's Stags will be looking to bounce back tonight.

Visitors Peterborough may not have broken any records but they have won silverware this term - having beaten Blues at Wembley to retain the EFL Vertu Trophy.

Both sides are on winless league runs - Mansfield without a victory in six, Posh in five - and both will be seeking positive ends to their seasons.

There's not a single change to the starting XI from Steve Bruce after Blackpool's 1-1 draw against Wigan.

Even the substitutes are mostly the same but there is one returning face.

Hayden Coulson is back on the bench after missing the trip last time out.

  7. Blackpool bid to join small list of Blues beaterspublished at 19:39 British Summer Time 30 April

Last season, Blackpool finished eighth. Three points behind sixth- placed Barnsley.

This season, it hasn't been as close for the Tangerines. They are ninth but haven't really been in the top-six conversation.

It means they can't improve on last year's finish and, seemingly, don't have a lot to play for.

But joining an exclusive list of just three other clubs - Charlton, Bolton and, surprisingly, relegated bottom side Shrewsbury - as those who've beaten record-breakers Birmingham City in the league this season?

That'll put a spark into the finale of a somewhat unremarkable campaign - and maybe even set a standard that could follow into something much bigger come August.

And of course boss Steve Bruce always wants to get one over on one of his - many - former clubs...

Birmingham City have got two goes at getting the record for EFL points. Tonight will be tough as Blackpool have come in very strong, and are probably a bit better than their league position would suggest.

Blackpool are ninth and they can't make the play-offs, and we know Steve Bruce will send out a competitive team. And they are a side that has taken a point at St Andrew's this year, so there will be a desire for Blues to beat them for that reason.

There were a few people on social media that were surprised Jay Stansfield was left out as he could still get the golden boot, but I'm not sure individual prizes are what this team are about.

Birmingham City boss Chris Davies makes two swaps from his League One record-breaking squad on Sunday.

Alfie May replaces Jay Stansfield up top, while Marc Leonard is in for Paik Seung-ho in midfield.

Both players making way are available from the bench.

Birmingham City boss Chris Davies had more than just breaking records to celebrate on Sunday - he also picked up the League One manager of the year award at the EFL Awards in London.

Blues defenders Christoph Klarer and Alex Cochrane and midfielder Tomoki Iwata also got a nod as they were named in the League One team of the year.

Japan international Iwata also made the shortlist for League One player of the year but lost out on the night to Wycombe Wanderers' Richard Kone.

  12. Blues third tier record will 'never be beaten' - Daviespublished at 19:27 British Summer Time 30 April

"For all the people that thought it was going to be easy for Birmingham, you can never take away from this group of players what they've done," Birmingham City boss Chris Davies told BBC Radio WM.

"They've achieved history and I've said to them I don't think that'll ever be beaten. To beat Wolves' record and get 105 points in a season is an incredible achievement."

Blues got over the third-tier record threshold in fine style, humbling Mansfield Town with a 4-0 victory on Sunday.

It's been a season to remember for the side who were relegated from the Championship in 2024, losing just three games and winning eight more than second-placed Wrexham.

They've only dropped 27 points all season so far, with two more games to go - not impossible for another team to do better but will it ever be done? Only time will tell if Davies' claims are disproved.

A lover of statistics? It's not a crystal ball into the future but they can certainly let you know what you might be in for. And looking at some of them, maybe Reading's record might be safe for tonight after all...

Here are our pick of the stats:

    • Blackpool are unbeaten in their past four league games against Birmingham City (W2 D2), keeping a clean sheet in each of their past three.
    • Birmingham City have won just two of their past 18 league visits to Blackpool (D6 L10), both 2-1 wins in January 2011 and February 2014.
    • Blackpool’s Steve Bruce has won six of his past eight home league games against former side Birmingham City, although lost his most recent such match when in charge of West Bromwich Albion in the 2022-23 Championship campaign (2-3).
    • Birmingham have lost just one of their 15 midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) league games this season (W12 D2), winning each of their past four in a row since losing 3-1 at Bolton in March.

Last time out, Birmingham City achieved the highest points tally in a single League One season with a victory over Mansfield on Sunday.

It was previously held by a team just up the M6, Wolverhampton Wanderers, who had reached 103 in their 2013-14 campaign.

But now, Blues will look to topple an even older feat.

Just one point separates them from Reading's EFL points record of 106, set in the Championship 19 years ago, and this season's title-winners won't just have tonight's game against Blackpool to try to throw the Royals off the throne.

They will get another opportunity at relegated Cambridge United on Saturday - but will they need it? Why end a season by beating a record by two points when you can smash it by five?

  16. One record down, another to go...?published at 19:15 British Summer Time 30 April

Birmingham City already bagged themselves a new record on Sunday but what's one more, eh?

Tonight's trip to Blackpool is the first of two attempts the West Midlands side will get to try to break Reading's EFL points record of 106 set during their 2005-06 title-winning Championship campaign.

Blues have already earned promotion, picked up the League One trophy and broke local rivals Wolves' third tier points record with a win over Mansfield Town at St Andrew's at the weekend.

There's already plenty to celebrate but they'll want to go into Saturday's final game of the season knowing they've done it all and are now looking at even greater heights.
