What: Myles Lewis-Skelly was shown a straight red card in the first half of their meeting with Wolves after a challenge on Matt Doherty. The red card was shown by referee Michael Oliver on field.

Decision: VAR Darren England advised Oliver to stick with his original decision, with Lewis-Skelly judged to have committed a serious foul play challenge.

Outcome: Following an appeal, Lewis-Skelly’s three-match ban was overturned by the FA but Arsenal were fined £65,000 for the reaction of their players towards Lewis-Skelly. PGMOL chief Howard Webb said that while the decision was wrong, he defended how the initial decision was reached.

Real Madrid are planning to appeal the red card given to Jude Bellingham against Osasuna on Saturday.

Jude Bellingham was "disrespectful" after he was sent off for dissent during Real Madrid's 1-1 draw with Osasuna on Saturday, says Barcelona boss Hansi Flick.

The 21-year-old later said the incident was a "misunderstanding" and he did not insult the referee, an explanation supported by his manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Asked for his reaction to the incident, Flick said: "It is disrespectful but I'm not the one who should comment on it.

"And that's what I've always told the players. Why waste time and energy arguing with the referee regarding the decisions he makes?

"There is a player, who is the captain, who has the right to argue with the referee.

"I don't like the behaviour I saw. It's a weakness when you get a red card."

Jude Bellingham was a hot topic of debate at last night after he was sent off by referee Jose Munuera Montero for using foul language during Saturday's 1-1 draw against Osasuna.

Spanish journalists were very keen to get their English counterparts' take on the phrase Belligham used - or the variation on the phrase - as was Pep Guardiola.

While doing two radio interviews with Spanish commentators about tonight's game, the subject swiftly turned to that red card - and it was definitely a case of having to mind your language.

It is explained - sort of - here.

  7. Abuse of referee who sent off Bellingham 'repulsive'published at 13:27 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has condemned the "repulsive" abuse suffered by referee Jose Munuera Montero since his decision to send off Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham.

Montero has since received abuse on social media, while his family have also been targeted.

"The professional referees are absolutely repulsed by the attacks and threats that our colleague Jose Luis Munuera Montero is receiving through social networks," the RFEF said in a statement.

"These attacks add to the hatred and verbal violence through which we have to carry out our professional work every weekend, and that in the base categories becomes, even more regrettably, physical violence in many cases."

The additional £11m cost of appointing new head coach Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff was not specifically mentioned in United’s latest financial results.

United sources say that cost is being spread over their two-and-a-half year contracts.

United had to pay Sporting a release clause to get Amorim part way through his contract and with the 2024-25 season underway.

We had a closer a look at Ademola Lookman's penalty record earlier and it makes Gian Piero Gasperini's comments seem even more harsh.

He may have missed the penalty against Club Brugge, but before that spot kick he had a perfect record for the club. Lookman had previously taken four penalties for Atalanta and scored them all.

In his entire career, Lookman has taken six penalties and scored four.

Ademola Lookman has called his Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini "deeply disrespectful" after the manager called him "one of the worst penalty takers I have ever seen" after he missed a spot-kick in their 3-1 (5-1 on aggregate) Champions League loss to Club Brugge on Tuesday.

He said on social media, external: "It saddens me on a day like this to have to write a statement - most of all because of what we have achieved together as a team and a city.

"Being singled out in this manner, I have been not only hurt but [it] feels deeply disrespectful, not least because of the immense hard work and commitment I have always put in each and every day to help bring success to this club."

  14. Will Man Utd financial results lead to further redundancies?published at 12:53 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February

    Manchester United

Wednesday's figures follow Manchester United's operating loss of £6.9 million in the first quarter, which was also attributed to the difference in playing in the Europa League as opposed to the Champions League from 12 months previous.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United's co-owner, owns 28.94% of the club.

United wrote to supporters in January to say "difficult" decisions would need to be taken as the club was "close" to breaching the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules.

Since Ratcliffe's investment was announced in December 2023, United have made around 250 staff redundancies.

The club refused to deny reports that they were seeking to make further redundancies when approached by BBC Sport earlier this month.

United expect the restructuring decisions will lead to savings of between £30m-£40m.

  15. United spend £14.5m sacking Ten Hag and Ashworthpublished at 12:50 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February

    Manchester United

Overall, Man Utd made an operating profit of £3.1 million last year, which was down from £27.5m over the same period in 2023 - but club debt has increased from £506.6m to £515.7m due to "unfavourable" exchange rate changes.

Included in the results is a £14.5m 'exceptional item' figure, with £10.4m being spent on sacking Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff in October and £4.1m on the departure of former sporting director Dan Ashworth (pictured) in December.

Commercial revenue was up 18.5%, from £71.8m to £85.1m as a result of the front-of-shirt partnership with Snapdragon.

"We recognise the challenges in improving our men's team's league position and we are all working hard, collectively, to achieve that, said United Chief Executive Officer Omar Berrada.

Berrada added the club's redevelopment of the training ground was "on track".

  16. Man Utd revenues drop 12% in last financial quarterpublished at 12:44 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February
    Breaking

    Manchester United

Manchester United's revenues decreased by 12% in the last financial quarter, in part down to the club's sacking of former manager Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils announced a revenue of £198.7 million for the three months ending 31 December 2024, down from £225.8m for the same period 12 months previously.

The main driver of the decrease was a 42% drop in broadcast revenues, which fell from £106.4m to £61.6m.

The club say this was due to United playing in the Europa League compared to the Champions League 12 months prior.

Arsenal have confirmed that Japanese international defender Takehiro Tomiyasu will be out for the rest of the 2024-25 season as he recovers from knee surgery.

The 26-year-old initially picked up the injury last summer and ongoing issues led to the need for two surgeries, the first of which took place in August.

His only appearance this season was as a substitute in Arsenal's Premier League match against Southampton at the Emirates Stadium in October, which has now led to a second surgery.
