One of the few Newcastle fans here awake as I’m living in Australia. Was on video call to my Dad at 5:30am with tears streaming down our faces. He’s 72 and knowing that we’ve won something in his lifetime brings me a sense of happiness I cannot describe. Sorry to start with a heavy one but this honestly, my petty words cannot do this magnificent occasion justice. For Newcastle fans, our lives feel profoundly different.

I'm not a Newcastle supporter but I'm actually welling up myself reading this. The joy football can bring is a universal feeling, however ridiculous it may seem to some...

  4. 'A Monday morning feeling never experienced before'published at 07:39 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March

What we do have this morning for Newcastle United supporters everywhere is a Monday morning feeling the like of which they have never experienced before.

I am not sure when I last witnessed such a mass display of joyousness from a group of football supporters of that size inside Wembley stadium.

They just didn't want to leave the place...so they didn't. They stayed absolutely as long as they could inside the stadium. To see the three tiers of Wembley stadium with the black and white stripes - it was something else.

To have gone through so many decades without having a day like yesterday, that is why we saw the outpouring of joy that we did.

  5. It's the best day of my life - Guimaraespublished at 07:32 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March

    Liverpool 1-2 Newcastle

The Express headline 'Toon crier' could have probably described many a Newcastle supporter last night, but captain Bruno Guimaraes embodied that emotion at the final whistle.

The Brazil midfielder spoke so eloquently and with such feeling that he could have been mistaken for a boyhood Toon supporter.

"It's all for these fans," he said. "They deserve everything. When I first came here I said I wanted to put my name in history.

"We can now say we are the champions again.

"I don't have any words. It's the best day of my life. For them [the fans] it's like the World Cup. People have grown up and not seen us as champions.

"My first year as captain of this club and it's one of the best days. This is unbelievable.

"This is my second home. We are making history. Some day when I leave this club I want the fans to sing my name the way they do to Alan Shearer. He texted me before the game. I'm so emotional today."

Of course, it wouldn't be surprising if most Newcastle fans - unlike Ian - were not clicking on this page at such an ungodly hour, unless, of course, they haven't yet gone to sleep!

Let's kick off by seeing how the national newspapers reported such a momentous day in Newcastle United history...

Have been going to St James’ Park since 1967. Watched yesterday’s match with my 96-year-old neighbour who cracked open the champagne after the final whistle. But I still had to check the BBC Sport website at 4am today to confirm it wasn’t all a dream. Howe’s history men will, indeed, go down in Newcastle folklore.

Newcastle supporters, how does it feel to win the Carabao Cup? Sunk in yet?

We want to know how you felt before, during and after the match and how you celebrated.

Were you in the ground? If so, what was the atmosphere like at Wembley?

If you weren't lucky enough to go to the game, where did you watch it and where did you party afterwards? The more obscure answers the better.

  10. It's Burn's night!published at 07:13 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March

    Liverpool 1-2 Newcastle

For the majority - not counting Liverpool fans - they were tears of joy.

None more so than for man of the match Dan Burn, who said he felt like he was dreaming at the final whistle.

Two days after his first England call-up, the 32-year-old boyhood Newcastle supporter scored the opening goal as the Magpies beat Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley to win the Carabao Cup.

The big defender was central to their celebrations, but admitted that his party would have to be cut short as he planned to be the first player to report for duty when the Three Lions squad assembles this morning.

Newcastle United secured their first domestic trophy for 70 years - and ended a wait for a major prize stretching back to 1969 - with a deserved Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool at Wembley.

The Toon Army were sent into ecstasy as goals either side of half-time by Dan Burn and Alexander Isak put them on course for a triumph that will lead to legendary status on Tyneside for manager Eddie Howe and his players.

Burn celebrated his first England call-up by meeting Kieran Trippier's corner with a towering header in first-half stoppage time, before Isak pounced to finish clinically from Jacob Murphy's knockdown after 52 minutes.

Liverpool, who were knocked out of the Champions League on penalties by Paris St-Germain in midweek, pulled a goal back through substitute Federico Chiesa in injury time.

Newcastle, however, survived a tense finish to clinch their first major silverware since the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969 and first domestic success since the 1955 FA Cup.
