Get Involved - Thoughts on international breaks?published at 11:15 British Summer Time

I hate international football at the best of times, but the September break is so frustrating. Just as teams are getting some momentum going, in it wades to spoil it all. Surely we can all agree that it needs binning?

    Andy

I wish, DESPERATELY wish, that they would sack off all of these international breaks - I don't think there are many fans whose clubs are affected who care that much? If you have qualifiers play them in the summer, what a waste of time!

  2. ICYMI: Palace qualify for Europa Conference Leaguepublished at 11:09 British Summer Time

Fredrikstad 0-0 Crystal Palace (agg 0-1)

Crystal Palace booked their spot in the league phase of the Conference League despite an unconvincing showing in the second leg of their play-off tie against Fredrikstad.

Jean-Philippe Mateta's goal in the first leg at Selhurst Park proved the difference on aggregate as the English Premier League side struggled to make much of an impression in Norway.

It's not the competition that the Eagles wanted to be in when they won the FA Cup last season, but they're into Europe for the first time in the club's history.

  3. A busy end to window for Newcastle Unitedpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time

You get the feeling the final few days of the window are going to be busy on Tyneside.

Nick Woltemade is undergoing a medical today ahead of completing his club-record move from Stuttgart and Newcastle United remain active in the market.

Head coach Eddie Howe said this morning that there was an opportunity to “maybe improve the squad further”, which could potentially point to Newcastle looking at adding another striker.

That feels significant. Certainly when it comes to the future of Alexander Isak.

In a statement last week, Newcastle did not foresee the conditions of sale being met for the Swede - namely securing two quality centre-forwards - as well as receiving an offer from Liverpool that actually gives the club a decision to make.

However, could that change before the window shuts on 1 September?

    England

With Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham and potentially Cole Palmer all missing with injury, the door may well be open for Jack Grealish to make his return to the England squad.

Grealish has impressed on his two starts for Everton and England assistant manager Anthony Barry watched the 29-year-old on his Premier League debut for the Toffees.

  5. Wharton set for call-up?published at 10:54 British Summer Time

    England

Calls have been made for a while now for Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton to be given a run in the England side and that time may be coming.

Wharton has just one senior cap but looks primed to slot straight into the England midfield.

Could he be joined by the likes of Elliot Anderson and Harvey Elliott? We'll find out at 12pm.

  6. Who do England play?published at 10:48 British Summer Time

    England

    Ah, the September international break.

You wait all summer for football to return, you watch your team three times and then there's a two-week break.

But don't let that detract from the fact that England have two important games.

Thomas Tuchel's side face Andorra in a World Cup qualifier on 6 September, before travelling to Serbia three days later.

Arsenal are in advanced talks with Bayer Leverkusen over interest in defender Piero Hincapie but a successful transfer hinges on the Premier League club selling ahead of the transfer deadline.

With Monday’s 7pm cut-off looming, the Gunners want to add left-sided defender Hincapie to their squad. Multiple sources have indicated an agreement between Arsenal and Leverkusen for the Ecuador international, who has a £52million release clause, is now close while Hincapie wants to join the Emirates Stadium club.

But whether the deal can be sanctioned is likely to be dependent on whether Arsenal can sell players ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.

Porto and Arsenal are in talks over a move for Jakub Kiwior moving to Portugal. Hincapie is viewed as a direct replacement for Kiwior in Mikel Arteta’s squad.

There is interest in attacker Reiss Nelson, who has suitors from across Europe. Fulham have approached the Gunners over Nelson but the Cottagers are reluctant to sign the winger on a permanent deal or a loan with an obligation.

Oleksandr Zinchenko, Albert Lokonga and Fabio Vieira – who has interest from Stuttgart - can also leave this month. Arsenal are mindful of complying with Uefa’s squad cost ratio regulations and want to ensure players are sold before executing their interest in Hincapie.

    Everton

Everton boss David Moyes on Harrison Armstrong: "A loan is there if we want to. He played really well in midweek and showed he has potential to be a future Everton player. But are we going to give him enough games between now and January? Remember we lose a few to the Africa Cup of Nations. So it is something we are looking at, but we are really pleased with how he is coming on."

On future of Youssef Chermiti: "I think there is a good chance of him going on loan."

Everton boss David Moyes on fitness of Vitaliy Mykolenko and Adam Aznou: "I hope [he is ready to go]. It was good to get Mykolenko back as we have been short in that area. Adam still has a little bit of a problem with his ankle. He is back doing a little bit of training but we just need to monitor it and see how he is."

  15. 'A really difficult summer'published at 10:09 British Summer Time

Wolves v Everton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Everton

Everton boss David Moyes on whether this has been one of his toughest summers: "I think it has. Since we beat Newcastle on the last game of the season I have been working on recruitment and found it a really difficult summer. We have had a lot of players who have chosen not to come and we have had to work really hard to get enough players in.

"Our squad numbers are small. But if things change before Monday then that would be good."

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe on the future of Alexander Isak: "It's difficult for me to give you any sort of clarity on the future. I've said before, I don't know what the future holds in that respect because I'm not involved with it myself. I've got no update and I'm just focusing on bringing players into the club."

Leeds v Newcastle (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe on the injuries to Joelinton and Sandro Tonali: "Relatively good news on both players. When they left the pitch [against Liverpool] we feared they'd be out long term because it didn't look good for either but Joelinton's scan was relatively good - he will miss this weekend but there's a chance he could be available the other side of the international break.

"Similar for Tonali, I think his injury isn't serious, he's battling trying to be fit for tomorrow but whether he will make it I'm not sure. But really positive signs because we thought we'd be losing them for longer."

Leeds v Newcastle (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe on facing Leeds on Saturday evening: "I think every time we've been to Elland Road we've experienced the atmosphere and the feeling in the stadium that the Leeds supporters try to create. I think it's a very strong home support so we know the start of the game is going to be really important for us.

"Against Everton they played very, very well and even early parts of the Arsenal game I thought they were strong. They've invested well, they've got some good players and Daniel [Farke] has done well there."
