For Lincoln, the aim to start the game has to be to make it really uncomfortable for Chelsea.

They are a team that are used to not having the ball, so that won't faze them. It's about what they do and the quality that they can find when they do get possession.

  6. 'Chelsea lineup a sign of respect to us and competition'published at 19:44 BST 23 September

Lincoln City v Chelsea (19:45 BST)

    Lincoln City

Lincoln City boss Micheal Skubala speaking to Sky Sports: "We've gone strong in the first two rounds to try to get a 50/50 of a big team at home, and we've done that. There's some lads in there that have got us through those first two rounds and we thought to give them if not the opportunity, but the reward. There are also some more senior players around them."

On Chelsea picking a strong lineup: "Enzo [Maresca] has been respectful to the competition, and respectful to us with the team that he's put out. That makes it even tougher than you would think, because they could have brought kids, like other bigger teams have done. But it's a sign that as a top manager he respects this competition."

  7. 'It would give us confidence'published at 19:43 BST 23 September

    Wolves v Everton (19:45 BST)

    Wolves

The mood is low at Molineux with Wolves losing all five of their Premier League games this season.

Boss Vitor Pereira is well aware a win tonight could work wonders for confidence.

"It would give us confidence," said Pereira. "We don't have time to think a lot about this [Leeds defeat] game.

"We need to focus on the next one. We need to improve ourselves, I need to improve myself and my players and we'll try to do it.

"All of them deserves to play. All of them because I cannot see one single player that is not working in the best level or fighting and working to play the games.

    "Everyone deserves to play."

Feeling genuinely concerned for Southampton this evening, on a terrible run of form stretching back to last season up against a Liverpool side full of players with a point to prove. Could be a long evening ahead for the Saints

Will Still's Southampton have had a bit of a mixed season.

They started their Championship campaign with a win against Wrexham but haven't won in the league since, with their two other wins coming in the League Cup.

“Liverpool are the best team in England, probably one of the best teams in Europe, and we have to go there with the belief that we can play football and that we’re good at doing certain things in our register," Still said.

"We just have to show a bit of personality, a bit of bravery to stand back up, to get back up.

“I just want us to have a go, to be brave and show a bit of what we’re about, not just go there and fold over and crumple. We need to be strong, we need to be good at what we do. Just go there and have a go.”

  11. Huge upset on the cards?published at 19:38 BST 23 September

Lincoln City have been in the fourth round of the League Cup just once in their history after they were beaten by Southampton back in 2022.

The Imps sit third in League One and will be looking to pull off an almighty upset at Sincil Bank tonight.

For me this tie is where the potential banana skin is. A lot of the Chelsea players will be turning up and will not have been to anywhere like Sincil Bank in their careers, and that can be a leveller.

Also when you're in amongst players that have never played the Chelseas and the Arsenals, it is a real opportunity for them, maybe for one night only to be able to say, "I took someone on, I was as good as that Premier League player."

Barnsley are looking to reach the fourth round for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign, when they were knocked out of the competition by Manchester United.

The Tykes have lost each of their last eight EFL Cup ties against Premier League opposition but have triumphed in their last three domestic cup games against Brighton, including a 2-1 win in the FA Cup fourth round in 1984-85.

The Seagulls, meanwhile, are aiming to reach the EFL Cup fourth round for the fifth time in the last six seasons.

As Everton fans will know all too well, the Toffees haven't won a trophy since 1995 but could this be their year?

David Moyes has brought fresh optimism to the blue side of Merseyside and with the likes of Jack Grealish now at his disposal, Everton could go under the radar in this competition.

Lincoln City v Chelsea (19:45 BST)

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca speaking to Sky Sports: "We have some senior players that we give rest, so we tried to mix it up a little bit. All the ones that play tonight, we need them to help us throughout the season.

"We tried to give the players the right information and the right message. Tonight it's more about desire and winning duels. We need to be ready."

Brighton thumped Championship side Oxford 6-0 to reach the third round but Seagulls boss Fabian Hurzeler has warned his players against underestimating Barnsley, who remain unbeaten at Oakwell this season.

“We know it will be tough and we will need some luck, but I think we’re in good shape,” said Hurzeler, whose side drew 2-2 with Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday. “Barnsley play good football, they have good players, so we have to be prepared.

“We want to reach the next round, but we will need the performance to be on the highest level. It’s a do-or-die game, a 50-50 game. We have to take it very seriously.”

  19. 'Don't talk about it until after Luton'published at 19:26 BST 23 September

Lincoln City v Chelsea (19:45 BST)

    Lincoln City

Lincoln manager Michael Skubala speaking on the BBC Radio 5 Live Monday Night Club: "The first preparation was not to talk about it until after Luton believe it or not, because we had to get a job done and get three points at home.

"Then Sunday we had the day off and we were back in today doing the tactical planning and selecting the team that we think can have a right good go at Chelsea at home. We want it to be a performance to be proud of but we know how tough it's going to be at the same time."

Wolves boss Vitor Pereira is looking for a bit of respite after five successive Premier League defeats to start the season.

One of those came against Everton, who won 3-2 at Molineux last month, but there is still a belief Wolves will recover under Pereira, who agreed a new three-year deal last week.

Home fans are expected to stay away this evening, though, with thousands of seats available before the game.

Supporters are increasingly upset with owners Fosun and executive chairman Jeff Shi, with chants against the ownership following the defeat to Leeds on Saturday.
