  1. 'I wouldn't put it past Lincoln to knock out Chelsea'published at 19:23 BST 23 September

Lincoln City v Chelsea (19:45 BST)

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live at Sincil Bank

Lincoln City are in a really good place under Micheal Skubala and have a certain way of playing. They're not bothered about possession but they are very effective at what they do.

They scored 30 goals from set plays last season, they are superbly organised - I wouldn't put it past them to knock out Chelsea tonight.

Barnsley manager Conor Hourihane says his side will draw inspiration from Grimsby Town’s victory over Manchester United last month when the League One Tykes face Brighton tonight.

Hourihane, whose side sit sixth in League One, said: “We know we’re up against it, but we’ll hit it head-on and go about it the way we want to go about it. You look at Grimsby and they give you hope.

“It’s a really exciting game for myself, the squad and the club. We’re obviously testing ourselves against a really exciting squad. It’d be incredible [to reach the next round]. We’ll go about it the right way. You never know what the result will be on the night.”

Liverpool new boy Milos Kerkez says his relationship with Andy Robertson is "really good" and the two left-backs are "pushing" each other to raise their standards.

The 21-year-old signed for £40m from Bournemouth this summer as Robertson's long-term successor and has started six of the Reds' seven matches so far this season.

"Before the game [Saturday's Merseyside derby], he motivated me and told me: 'Go outside and do your thing that you were doing last season.' So he gave me a bit of a push," said Kerkez.

"Then, after the game, he congratulated me and told me I should keep going like that. We are good. He's a legend who did amazing things, won everything and still has quality.

"It's not like he's not here. He's a squad player. This is Liverpool and we're competing. He's pushing me and I'm pushing him - and that's important to have in a big club like this."

    Burnley v Cardiff (19:45 BST)

    Burnley

Burnley are looking to reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup for the fifth time in six years but they must overcome League One Cardiff first.

The Clarets have picked up four points on their return to the Premier League and this is a chance for Scott Parker to rest and rotate his squad.

Lincoln manager Michael Skubala speaking on the BBC Radio 5 Live Monday Night Club: "The big thing about these games is that you can feel it around the place, around the club, around the city. You can feel that a big club is coming to town. The place is buzzing.

"In another way we are preparing how we always prepare, keeping the processes the same, and thinking how we want to win the game. We are respectful of how good they are but we want to win the game."

  9. An all-League One encounterpublished at 19:12 BST 23 September

    Wigan v Wycombe (19:45 BST)

An all-League One encounter means we're guaranteed to have a third tier side in the hat for the fourth round but who will it be?

Wigan sit 12th in the league with Wycombe six places below.

Progressing in the cup gives players the chance to switch off from league action and potentially pit themselves against the Premier League's top sides.

  10. 'This is a chance for them to be in the highlights'published at 19:10 BST 23 September

    Fulham v Cambridge (19:45 BST)

Fulham boss Marco Silva knows his side need to be on their game to avoid being the headline in an EFL Cup shock story tonight.

They are at home to League Two Cambridge but their league rivals Grimsby showed that league placings mean nothing in this competition after they knocked out Manchester United and Sheffield Wednesday.

"Massive respect, of course, to our opposition side," Silva said.

"You know it's a chance for them to be in the highlights the next day after the match.

"Playing at home, of course we are favourites, no doubts about it, but we have to prove on the pitch that we want to be in the next round, and this is our aim for the game."

  11. Wrexham and Reading meet againpublished at 19:08 BST 23 September

    Wrexham v Reading (19:45 BST)

Wrexham face Reading in the EFL Cup tonight but the last meeting between the sides in March came amid a backdrop of turmoil and protests.

Reading fans protested against the club's then owner, Chinese businessman Dai Yongge, who had presided over a turbulent time for the Royals.

Yongge's controversial tenure came to an end in the summer when American businessman and lawyer Rob Couhig completed his takeover of the club.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson, a former Reading player, said counterpart Noel Hunt and his team deserved credit for their efforts under difficult circumstances.

"Reading was a club in turmoil last year and Noel and his staff I thought did a great job to keep it going, they really did," Parkinson said.

"So yes, pleased the club's been taken over and they're looking to build back because Reading's another club who've been in the Premiership a couple of times and can see themselves at the very least a top Championship side."

  12. 'We have a strong collective mentality'published at 19:07 BST 23 September

    Liverpool v Southampton (20:00 BST)

Liverpool have won every game they have played so far this season, and will look to maintain their 100% record against Southampton tonight.

Reds boss Arne Slot is particularly pleased that his side has been able to find ways to keep winning, despite a pretty busy fixture schedule.

Slot said: "We go into [this game] on the back of a victory over our neighbours Everton in the Merseyside derby. That win maintained a start to the season which has definitely been promising, even though we know there is still room for improvement.

"This victory gave me a great deal of pleasure, not only because it came in a derby, but mainly because it followed a demanding schedule of Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday fixtures. Inevitably, our energy levels weren't the same at the end of such a testing week as they were at the start.

"I need to stress once again this is not an excuse. Firstly, we do not need one because we won the game, and secondly it is an explanation worth reiterating given the demands placed on our players.

"The way they faced up to this challenge showed such a strong collective mentality, and winning such a tough fixture is a huge credit to them."

  13. Matt Beard to be remembered at Anfieldpublished at 19:06 BST 23 September

    Liverpool v Southampton (20:00 BST)

Before the game tonight, tributes will be paid to former Liverpool boss Matt Beard.

The 47-year-old, who led the club to back-to-back WSL titles in 2013 and 2014, died last week.

"Before moving onto tonight's game, I would like to take this opportunity to pay my respects to Matt Beard, who we sadly lost at the weekend at such a young age," Reds boss Arne Slot says in his programme notes for tonight's game.

"That Matt was a special person could not be clearer. As a manager, he was a significant figure within women's football over many years. As a person, he was loved and admired by so many, both in and out of football. As a husband and father, he meant so much to his wife, Debbie, and children, Harry, Ellie and Scott.

"At Liverpool, he was respected and liked in equal measure, having claimed back-to-back league title wins in his first stint as manager of our women's team before delivering promotion following his return to the club a few years ago.

"These achievements speak volumes, as do the tributes that have been paid to Matt since we first learned of his passing. It takes a very special individual to prompt the kind of outpouring of affection we have seen in the days since then.

"Before kick-off tonight, we will pay our respects to Matt as a club and show our appreciation for everything he did for us and for football as a whole."

  14. 'Maresca will want to get back to winning ways'published at 19:05 BST 23 September

Lincoln City v Chelsea (19:45 BST)

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live at Sincil Bank

Chelsea have gone strong with their team selection. They are coming here off the back of a few defeats, so it is an important game for them. Enzo Maresca will want to get back to winning ways, and however they get over the line, he will just want to head back down to London with a victory.

It's a perfect, sunny, autumnal evening here, there's a luscious green playing surface - hardly conditions conducive for a cup upset.

However, Lincoln City will have other ideas. They are flying high in League One and are very, very strong here at home.
