It was always going to be a big couple of nights in the Championship and so it has proved.

Leeds United return to the top and move two points clear of Sheffield United - and four ahead of Burnley.

Watford have nudged up into the top 10 and are now four points off the play-off spots.

Hull City and Stoke City both picked up vital wins at the bottom, but no victory tonight was bigger than Plymouth's away at Pompey.

Argyle are only three points adrift of safety. This relegation scrap is going all the way.

Ali Al-Hamadi's first-half goal is enough to give Stoke a huge three points in their bid for Championship survival.

The Potters move up to 19th and are now four points clear of the bottom three after a first win in five.

Home goalkeeper Viktor Johansson came up with two huge moments to preserve his clean sheet and the victory, first tipping a Todd Cantwell shot on to the post in the first half and then brilliantly denying Joe Rankin-Costello in the dying embers of the match.

Blackburn remain four points off the top six but are now winless in four.

Oxford United manager Gary Rowett would say that he has done this many times before.

Oxford look really poor from open play.

They have to put it right on Saturday. They need to win games soon.

  7. 'Results not good enough for U's'published at 21:53 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

I think we have to acknowledge that the results aren't good enough.

Oxford have come unstuck in a game at was very, very tight.

Right now, it looks pretty similar to the end of Des Buckingham's reign as U's boss.

There will be EIGHT minutes of time added on at the end of this.

Possibly the biggest eight minutes of Mark Robins' time in charge of the Potters.

Jordan Thompson is shown a yellow card for the home side for an incredibly cynical foul on Emmanuel Dennis.

There are always going to be people who are worried about Leeds United's game at the weekend, travelling away from home (to QPR).

But it was a really positive performance, especially from Dan James and Joe Rothwell tonight.

The decision making in the final third especially.

    FT: Hull City 2-1 Oxford

    Garreth Roberts

It was an exciting game in the second half.

In the first half, both sides flattered to deceive.

Hull City came back. Good play by Kasey Palmer, who nudged it to Joe Gelhardt.

Then with Gus Puerta, god knows how he got it in!

What a great way to win a game.

  15. Postpublished at 21:47 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

Ryan Hardie was the star of the show tonight, setting up Mustapha Bundu's opener with a delightful touch before firing in Plymouth's second at the near-post.

Plymouth have won game of football away from home in the Championship for the first time this season!

What a huge, huge result this could be in the context of the relegation battle for Argyle, who move to within three points of safety.

As for Pompey, the highs and lows of this division in the space of four days... from beating leaders Leeds on Sunday, they sink to just a second home defeat in 13 games at Fratton Park to the bottom side.

A big win for Watford to keep their play-off ambitions alive.

Swansea threw plenty at the Hornets in the second half but couldn't find a leveller.

Moussa Sissoko's excellent finish into the top corner in the first half sends Tom Cleverley's side within four points of the top six.

  19. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:41 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

    Hull City 2-1 Oxford

HUGE win for Hull City thanks to two goals in three minutes.

The away side took the lead through Michal Helik's fine finish but Joe Gelhardt quickly levelled for the Tigers.

A couple of minutes later the home side had totally turned it around as Gus Puerta's low shot at the near post caught Jamie Cumming out in the Oxford goal.

Przemslaw Placheta hit the crossbar with a super strike from way out in the final minutes and Puerta was sent off for diving right at the end but the home side held on and are now above the Yellows and, more importantly, five clear of the bottom three.

  20. RED CARD: Gus Puerta (Hull City)published at 21:41 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

    Hull City 2-1 Oxford

Hull break forward as they look to see the time out and Gus Puerta goes down under a challenge from Ben Nelson in the area.

    Penalty?

Nope, the referee shows him a yellow card for simulation and that's his second booking of the game so, with second to go, he's off.
