Talk about a high stakes football match... this lunchtime clash between Luton Town and Coventry City at Kenilworth Road has so much riding on it.

The Hatters were playing Premier League football less than 12 months ago, but unless they can escape danger in their next two games, they'll be in League One next season.

Matt Bloomfield's side are only in the relegation zone on goal difference behind Derby - who travel to fellow strugglers Hull City later this afternoon - and will be desperate for three points.

Also desperate for a victory will be the Sky Blues, who could confirm their place in the play-offs if they win and both Middlesbrough and Millwall fail to do so at 15:00 BST.

Despite their very different ambitions, it's Luton who come into this in better form than Frank Lampard's men, picking up 11 points in their past six games compared to Coventry's seven.

    It's all on the line.

  2. Three changes for Rangers, Burnley bring back Koleoshopublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 26 April

QPR boss Marti Cifuentes has made three changes to the side that lost 2-1 at home to Swansea on Easter Monday.

Midfielder Jonathan Varane, who pulled out in the warm-up against Swansea, returns along with Kenneth Paal and Kader Dembele, who scored Rangers' goal after coming off the bench.

Italian forward Luca Koleosho returns to an otherwise unchanged Burnley side for the first time in a month, having been an unused substitute in their promotion-sealing win over Sheffield United on Monday.

Koleosho replaces Marcus Edwards, who is among the substitutes for Scott Parker's side.

Job done for Burnley? Not quite. Although the Clarets clinched an immediate return to the Premier League with their 2-1 win over Sheffield United on Easter Monday, there are still targets to be reached in their two remaining games.

The main objective now for Scott Parker’s side is to try and overtake Leeds United for the Championship title, although their respective goal differences (with Burnley 14 worse off than their rivals) mean they would almost certainly need the Elland Road side to drop points.

All Burnley can do is win their last two games, with the added incentive that six more points would lift them to exactly 100, as well as matching Reading’s record run of 33 Championship matches without defeat from almost two decades ago.

The Clarets’ statistics make ominous reading for today’s opponents QPR, having lost just twice all season and conceded only 15 goals – one every three games, give or take.

Rangers, who recovered from a bad start to the campaign to secure their safety over the Easter weekend, have not beaten Burnley on their own turf since the 2104/15 season, when both sides dropped out of the top flight together.

Championship league table before the games on 26 April

Luton could claw themselves out of the drop zone with a draw against Coventry, but the Hatters will feel they need a win to stand the best chance of survival.

It's so tight at the bottom with eight teams still in the relegation mix.

At the other end, the Sky Blues could go a long way to securing their play-off spot with three points this lunchtime, though a lot will depend on how Middlesbrough and Millwall get on a bit later.

Oh, and there's just the small matter of a title race to be decided with Burnley at QPR before Leeds host Bristol City on Monday.

You get the feeling today is going to be a rollercoaster ride.

  5. What could be decided today?published at 12:12 British Summer Time 26 April

Talking of those permutations, plenty could be decided in the Championship today, but it will hinge on a LOT of ifs and buts.

Here's a look at who needs what and what could happen (bear with us...):

    • Bristol City will secure a play-off spot without kicking a ball if Middlesbrough and Millwall both lose and Blackburn fail to win.
    • Coventry will secure a play-off spot if they better Middlesbrough and Millwall's results and at least match Blackburn's result.
    • Plymouth will be relegated if either Luton or Derby better their result.
    • Cardiff will be relegated if either Luton or Derby better their result.
    • Luton cannot be relegated today but defeat could leave them needing an unlikely swing on goal difference on the final day should Derby win at Hull.

The penultimate Championship weekend began last night with a feisty encounter at the bet365 Stadium.

Stoke City could've secured their safety with a win over Sheffield United, but were undone by goals from Sam McCallum and Andre Brooks.

It means the Potters will have to wait anxiously as they watch today's action unfold, hoping one of Luton or Derby lose to ensure they'll still be in the division next season.

As for Chris Wilder's side, it was the perfect way to bounce back from missing out on automatic promotion on Monday and start to build momentum ahead of the play-offs.

A fire broke out in a laundry room at Luton Town's Kenilworth Road stadium on Friday night - but the club have said the incident will not affect today's vital encounter.

Firefighters were called to the ground shortly after 20:00 BST yesterday and managed to put out the blaze in less than two hours.

"Smoke was found to be coming from a small appliance that had caught fire in the stadium’s laundry room, which was contained within that area and has been dealt with swiftly to prevent any substantial damage," the club said.

The game is still going ahead as planned at 12:30 BST today.

    Good afternoon, everybody.

The penultimate game of the Championship season is upon us and today could be the day where play-off places and at least two relegations are decided.

If this division has ever taught us anything, though, it's that it isn't always that straightforward.

This promises to be an exciting, nerve-racking and entertaining day, all in equal measure.

Looking forward to it? Dreading it? Either way, welcome along for the ride.

Two early games coming up for you in about half an hour, so let's get going...
