Stephen Robinson exuded a real sense of calm and purpose in his pre-match interview.

He understands many will see Brann as favourites but there was a small glint in his eye that suggested he firmly believes this could evolve into an epic evening.

This sell-out crowd is beginning to stream in for, what they hope, will be another occasion to remember.

    What a start!

A Liam Polworth cross is glanced on to the post by Liam Donnelly. It looks like the chance is gone, but Vassell is quickest to react and he slide tackles the ball into the net.

    Dreadful defending from Tromso.

A crowd of around 7,500 are here with about 50 of those supporting the Norwegians.

    Stephen RobinsonImage source, SNS

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson tells BBC Scotland: "We have to treat it as a normal game. From the outside it's a huge game, but for us we have to approach it normally.

"We come very prepared. We've got to play with cool minds and not get caught up in the atmosphere. We will have to be the best versions of ourselves tonight to win the game.

"I believe we have progressed this season with the players we have brought in. We know when to play and when not to play.

"The changes are based on fitness levels, we've got another massive game on Sunday so it's about managing the squad. I believe the team we've put out can get a result."

  16. 'Tromso have struggled this year'published at 18:51 British Summer Time 8 August

    Kilmarnock v Tromso (19:00)

Former Scottish striker David Weatherston, who ended his career in Norway, on the BBC's Scottish Football Podcast: "I think it's a really even game. Tromso have struggled quite a lot this year, they had to change their manager in the winter.

"It was a real surprise that they managed to finish third in the league last year. Gaute Helstrup, the manager, left to join rivals Bodo/Glimt as the assistant and since then they've struggled to really get going this year.

"They've shown signs of life in the last two months. They're quite a young team with dots of experience around it, but they'll try and pass the ball through the lines."

    Derek McInnesImage source, SNS

Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland: "Tromso have lined up exactly how we thought they would. They're in a good place. Their results have improved of late, they were comfortable in the last round.

"They will play with a low block, a lot of their team in their own half. We'll need to be patient and intelligent. It's up to us to have positive answers. We want a proper Kilmarnock performance.

"When I watched them, [Tromso] were better than I anticipated. There's more to come from us.

"We're strong at home, we're used to winning here and we expect to win. If we don't win, it's half-time in a tie in which we feel we can get through."
