Reigning Cymru Premier champions The New Saints head to the Tallaght Stadium in Dublin after making Welsh football history.

Last time out, TNS' victory over Kazakhstan outfit Astana saw them become the first domestic Welsh club to win in the league or group stage of a major European competition.

Tonight they will look to back that up against a side who are currently second in the Irish Premier Division.

"It’s a very good club that have been doing really well, they are European veterans compared to ourselves," said boss Craig Harrison.

"We know it’s going to be a tough game but we’ve been out twice to watch them live and we’ve obviously done as much homework as we can.

"It’s one where both teams feel like they can get something from the game and obviously a victory for ourselves would put us on the right path and give us a great opportunity to move forward in the competition."

I know it's incredibly obvious, but winning is a good habit in football.

Victory over Olympiakos could reignite Philippe Clement's side's league form. We could be looking back at tonight as the moment where it finally clicked.

Nicolas Raskin says Rangers know where they need to improve and has called for his team-mates to rise to the challenge of facing Olympiakos in Athens.

Rangers head into the Europa League game on the back of an inconsistent start to the domestic season, where they have reached the League Cup final but are nine points off the Premiership summit.

"We know we've not had the results we wanted in the last couple of weeks but we're working hard," said Belgian midfielder Raskin.

"I think the way we play, we're trying to do something good. It's about being better in both boxes in some games but we're really calm with that.

"We know what we have to do and we're working hard. So with this mentality, we're going to improve day by day."

Olympiakos are the most successful club in Greece. They have been Champions League regulars and are Uefa Conference League holders.

Like Rangers, they sit on six points. Like Rangers, their defeat came at the hands of Lyon. Like Rangers, they have beaten Malmo with their other success being a 3-0 home hammering of Sporting Braga.

Greece's "Erythroleykoi" have hit some form in recent weeks. Currently fourth in the domestic table with last year's top two being left in the shadow of shock-troops Aris Thessaloniki, they have only lost once in their last eight and have not lost at home since mid-March, when they were beaten by Panathinaikos.

Olympiakos also boast one of the top strikers in Europe in the shape of Ayoub El Kaabi, whose 11 goals, including the only goal in the final, helped them to their Conference League win last term.

Rangers will be without Tom Lawrence for this evening's trip to Olympiakos with the midfielder expected to be out for four to six weeks.

Lawrence was forced off in the first half of Sunday's League Cup semi-final win over Motherwell and has scored five goals this season, including two in the Europa League.

"He's been important," Rangers manager Philippe Clement said.

"He took the role really well this season, scored several really important goals. Not only that, also in the play defensive wise.

"But gives chances to other players to prove themselves."

Rangers have made a positive start to their Europa League campaign, collecting six points from an available nine, courtesy of victories against Malmo and Romanian champions FCSB either side of defeat by Lyon.

Adding further points to their tally this evening is far from certain, though, with last season's Conference League winners Olympiakos also boasting six points.

The Greek club beat Malmo and Braga but were on the losing side against French outfit Lyon.

Fans inside the Olympiakos' Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium are known for creating a hostile atmosphere, and Gers boss Philippe Clement is confident his players will "embrace" playing there.

"We need a really big performance from all the squad, all those starting and coming in but I feel also that they are very hungry to do that," Clement said.

"It's now to confirm that in this game at a higher level against a better opponent, to raise our level again."

Galatasaray assistant manager Ismael Garcia Gomez admits even they were taken by surprise when the opportunity arose to sign one of the world’s most in-demand strikers.

At the end of August, Victor Osimhen was linked with top clubs in the Premier League and La Liga, or a money-spinning move to Saudi Arabia.

But a couple of days into September, the 25-year-old Nigerian was being mobbed at the airport arrivals in Istanbul, having signed on a year’s loan with the Turkish champions.

"We all know his summer was a bit shaky, there were so many rumours, just that he was definitely not staying [at] Napoli," Garcia Gomez tells BBC Sport. "There were options in Saudi, Chelsea, I don't know exactly what happened.

"But in [the] last days of [the] market there was an option for us to try. I remember coming from an away game, the head coach Okan Buruk had the first call with him, when we were about to fly back to Istanbul.

"Then in two days everything was done. For the club, for the fans, it was an amazing signing to start the season."

I love the contrast in centre forwards.

Victor Osimhen is a household name and is still one of the best finishers on the planet.

Whereas 19-year-old Will Lankshear has never scored a first team goal for Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou agrees with us. He also says it will be a "great test" for his Tottenham players to face Galatasaray, especially in front of the Turkish side's vociferous home support in the Europa League.

"That's why you play football," said Postecoglou. "Especially with this generation, a lot of them have experienced what football is like without supporters [during the Covid pandemic].

"We're looking forward to it. It's a fantastic stadium - the supporters create an unbelievable atmosphere here [and] they love the big European nights.

"Galatasaray at their home stadium with the fans behind them. There is a great energy in all their games so it's a great test for us and one we're looking forward to.

"We're in good form, playing good football ourselves and hopefully it should be a good game."

Tough test indeed, but Tottenham could cap off what has been a pretty good week for them if they nab a win.

It started with beating Manchester City in the EFL Cup last week, then with an emphatic 4-1 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League at the weekend. Could they add Europa League victory to that list?

They currently sit second in the Europa League table with three wins from three.

This is going to be a tough test [for Spurs]. It is intimidating, aggressive and it's a caldron.
