Southend maintained their strong start to the new National League campaign with a win over Halifax, who finished with 10 men at Roots Hall.

The Shrimpers went in front just after the half-hour when Andy Dallas headed in a cross from Gus Scott-Morriss for his third goal of the season.

Halifax had defender Adam Alimi-Adetoro sent off for picking up a second caution with 20 minutes left.

After both sides hit the woodwork, Southend made sure of the points through late headers from Scott-Morriss and defender Ben Goodliffe to secure a fifth league win.
