Summary

  1. Liverpool's interest in Guehipublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 1 August

    Sami Mokbel
    BBC Sport Senior football correspondent

Captain Marc Guehi has fewer than 12 months on his Crystal Palace contract, meaning he can leave for nothing next summer - a prospect that would represent a huge financial loss to the club given they turned down a deal of around £65m from Newcastle for Guehi in 2024.

As things stand, there are no signs Guehi is prepared to extend his contract, though Palace are obviously keen to discuss a new deal.

Liverpool have a genuine interest in Guehi this summer.

But the level of the Merseyside club's interest will be dictated by cost. Liverpool don't want to get drawn into a long saga over Guehi's valuation and will only move if they believe the fee represents that the defender can join them for nothing next summer.

Palace are believed to want around £40m for Guehi, but Liverpool want to pay less than that figure.

Tottenham, Newcastle and Chelsea have all registered varying degrees of interest in Guehi since the end of the season.

As much as I'd love us to sign Isak, we have to prioritize other areas, we are woefully short at centre back and need cover for Gravenberch who was dead on his feet by the end of last season.

West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta has been cleared of spot-fixing charges

West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta was cleared of spot-fixing charges by an independent regulatory commission on Thursday, nearly two years after the FA launched an investigation.

The charges, relating to allegations of deliberate bookings in four Premier League games, could have resulted in a lifetime ban but the commission’s decision means that Paqueta is free to continue his West Ham career – to a collective sigh of relief for a key player.

The 55-cap Brazil international provides an all-court game in central midfield. Since joining from Lyon for an initial £36.5m in August 2022, Paqueta tops the club’s rankings for tackles, duels won, possession won and successful passes while only Jarrod Bowen has created more chances and provided a greater tally of assists.

Paqueta and West Ham supporters can now look forward to the upcoming season for a player approaching the peak of his career.

Kind of have to admire Liverpool for getting what they want. Start unsettling the player months ago through media and then wait until late point and try get him on the cheap. Impressive.

  6. Gossip - West Ham have no interest in selling Paquetapublished at 14:01 British Summer Time 1 August

West Ham United have no interest in selling midfielder Lucas Paqueta unless they receive an offer "they cannot refuse," according to The Telegraph.

A bid in excess of £60m would constitute exactly that, though the report states the Brazilian midfielder feels loyalty to West Ham for they way they have supported him during the FA's investigation.

Paqueta was on the verge of joining Manchester City in an £85m deal two summers ago but the move collapsed due to the investigation.

West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta was cleared of spot-fixing charges by an independent regulatory commission yesterday - almost two years after the Football Association launched an investigation into him.

The FA started their investigation in August 2023 and the Brazil international was charged in May last year for allegedly getting booked deliberately "for the improper purpose of affecting the betting market".

Paqueta, 27, was facing the prospect of a lifetime ban if found guilty.

The four charges against him related to a Premier League game against Leicester City on 12 November 2022, as well as 2023 fixtures against Aston Villa on 12 March, Leeds United on 21 May and Bournemouth on 12 August.

The regulatory commission found these four charges to be "not proven" following the hearing.

He was reportedly set for a £85m move to Manchester City, external in August 2023 before the FA investigation came to light.

Wrexham are set to sign centre-back Conor Coady from Championship rivals Leicester City.

The two clubs have agreed a fee - believed to be around £2m - for the 32-year-old England defender, who passed his medical on Friday morning.

Signing Coady would be another major statement of intent from Wrexham, who are preparing for their first season back in the second tier for 43 years.

They have already broken their club transfer record twice this summer, first for Empoli left-back Liberato Cacace and then for Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien.

Wrexham are likely to smash it again as they are in talks over an ambitious £7.5m move for Wales and Ipswich Town forward Nathan Broadhead.

They also hope to complete the signing of another Wales international, striker Kieffer Moore, from Sheffield United.

Coady has made 198 Premier League appearances and captained the Wolves team who twice finished seventh and reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

He also has 10 caps for England and was part of their squad for Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.

Coady has 12 months left on his Leicester contract.

Sources say Isak told Newcastle last summer about his intention to leave. They've had plenty of time to sort a replacement, the trouble is, no one wants to go there. This deal will happen within a week and Liverpool will be frightening next season.

  14. Muniz makes most of limited opportunities - so could he move?published at 13:37 British Summer Time 1 August

    Tom McCoy
    BBC Sport journalist

Newcastle are the latest club linked with Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz, who is also being linked with Leeds and Atalanta. The 24-year-old has struggled to nail down a starting spot at Craven Cottage, often playing second fiddle to Raul Jimenez over the past two seasons.

But he has attracted attention from potential suitors by making the most of limited opportunities. The Brazilian opened his Premier League account in a 2-2 draw at Burnley in February 2024, the first of 17 top-flight goals in the space of 16 months.

During this time he averages a goal every 128 minutes, the sixth best record in the competition. The only players to post better figures are Alexander Isak, Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah – arguably the league's three best forwards – plus Jhon Duran and Richarlison, both of whom mainly profited as impact substitutes.

Muniz has proved himself a clinical finisher over this period, outperforming his expected goals tally by 3.46, while also excelling in the air. Though hardly a giant at 6ft 1in, he has won an average of five aerial duels per 90 minutes since February 2024, the fourth best record of any players to appear regularly in the top flight.

Leeds have repeatedly targeted tall players this summer and Muniz's physicality could be a real asset to the newly promoted side. Winning a starting role at Newcastle or Atalanta may prove more challenging, but those clubs could offer the enticing prospect of Champions League football.

However, Fulham have yet to sign an outfield player this summer and they may be reluctant to let Muniz move on without first having a replacement lined up.

Isak's situation stinks of agents meddling. If Isak wanted to go, then he'd have been making noises before Ekitike wanted to go to Liverpool. Now Isak is in a horrible situation because everyone has spent their money. Isak will be praying for a fast start this season for toon.

Brentford striker Yoane Wissa continues to train away from the first team amid uncertainty over his future and interest from multiple rival clubs.

The 28-year-old arrived at training on time before meeting manager Keith Andrews and sporting director Phil Giles to indicate his preference to continue training alone.

Wissa has previously threatened he will never play for Brentford again in past talks with Giles amid reports a £25m bid from Newcastle was rejected last week.

Tottenham and Nottingham Forest are also believed to be interested in the Congo international.

Andrews is preparing his team to face QPR on Saturday which will also be the first time he speaks about the situation publicly.

Why has it taken so long for Liverpool to put in an official offer for Isak? Possibly the biggest deal of the year, biggest transfer of the window etc. I’m really not looking forward to this upcoming season as a Newcastle fan. It’s going to be a really tough watch.
