  1. Palhinha's underwhelming debut season with Bayernpublished at 09:27 British Summer Time 1 August

Spurs target Joao Palhinha looked set to take his career to the next level when he signed for Bayern Munich but he has failed to live up to expectations in the Bundesliga.

The Portugal midfielder penned a four-year deal with the German champions last summer in deal worth over £46m but struggled to cement a place in the starting XI.

He saw a large chunk of his 2024-25 season disrupted by injury and made just 25 appearances over the course of the campaign - only 10 of which were starts.

Of those 10 appearances, he completed a full 90 minutes just five times.

The 30-year-old picked up more red cards (1) than he had goal involvements (0) during his first season with Bayern.

The fact Spurs missed out in Gibbs-White and have now resorted to Joao Palhinha is a disgrace. Once again Levy has completely messed up the transfer window as he has done for years. I can barely see a top 8 finish and a mediocre cup run. Ridiculous!

Rangers have completed the signing of Mikey Moore on a season-long loan deal from Spurs.

The 17-year-old has made 21 senior appearances for Spurs since making his debut against Manchester City in May 2024.

Moore scored his only goal for the club in a Europa League fixture against Elfsborg in January.

Tottenham are closing in on a loan move for Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha.

Talks between the clubs are at an advanced stage, with an agreement in principle in place.

An agreement over personal terms is unlikely to pose a problem and the deal is set to carry an option for the 30-year-old to make the transfer permanent.

Palhinha has significant Premier League experience, making 68 top-flight appearances in two years at Fulham before his move to Germany for £42.3m in July 2024.

However, the Portugal international has made just six Bundesliga starts since his move to Bavaria and is keen for a return to England.

Everton failed with a £27m bid for 19-year-old Southampton winger Tyler Dibling yesterday – a microcosm of their underwhelming transfer window in which manager David Moyes has vented his frustration at the club’s inability to get deals over the line.

Moyes has said that Everton “have been in for some really good players” but so far key targets have not agreed to move to Merseyside. Everton have signed four players, including teenage full-back Adam Aznou from Bayern Munich on Tuesday, but they are yet to address a lack of creativity and goals - scoring just twice from open play in five pre-season matches so far.

Along with Aznou, Everton have signed back-up goalkeeper Mark Travers, raw Villareal striker Thierno Barry and attacking midfielder Carlos Alcaraz – who was effectively part of the existing squad having joined on loan from Flamengo in January.

Everton may yet return with another bid for Dibling and have been linked with Manchester City’s Jack Grealish – targets that show they are in dire need of more attacking threat.

Only relegated Leicester City and Southampton scored fewer Premier League goals from open play than Everton’s 25 in 2024-25, while the Toffees also ranked 17th for expected goals from open play – indicating that very few chances were being created.

  7. A difficult summer so far for Evertonpublished at 08:57 British Summer Time 1 August

    David MoyesImage source, Getty Images

Everton's defeat by West Ham followed a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth last Saturday, far from the ideal start to pre-season.

In the aftermath of that game David Moyes had said his side needed "five or six" new signings to start their Premier League season.

    Signings so far:

    • Carlos Alcaraz - from Flamengo - £12.6m (£15.2m)
    • Thierno Barry - from Villarreal - £27m
    • Mark Travers - from Bournemouth - Undisclosed
    • Adam Aznou - from Bayern Munich - Undisclosed

The signing of teenager Adam Aznou earlier this week is their latest bit of business, but only their fourth addition of the summer.

One of those players though, Carlos Alcaraz, was already at the club last season and has made his move from Flamengo permanent.

Everton’s new owners have a lot to do to unravel years of poor leadership. A new approach to identifying and signing transfer targets is just one challenge. Next - a desperately needed improvement in our youth system which has failed to produce anyone for years.

  9. Everton 'running out of time'published at 08:42 British Summer Time 1 August

    Everton

Everton have struggled to strengthen their squad this summer, with manager David Moyes saying the club are "running out" of time to sign players despite having money to spend.

They have signed striker Thierno Barry from Villarreal for £27m, young left-back Adam Aznou from Bayern Munich and reserve keeper Mark Travers, but five experienced starters, including Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucoure, have left the Merseyside club.

Everton failed in their attempt to sign Kenny Tete from Fulham earlier in the transfer window with the Dutch defender opting to sign a new deal at Craven Cottage.

Everton have had an offer of £27m rejected for 19-year-old Southampton winger Tyler Dibling.

The Toffees retain an interest in the England Under-21 international and are expected to make an improved offer to land the highly-rated attacker.

Dibling has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs after scoring twice in 33 Premier League appearances for the relegated Saints last season.

He also scored a double against Swansea City in the third round of the FA Cup in January.
