Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson on the inclusion of Alexander Isak in his squad, despite not playing any minutes this season: "I am very happy that Alexander Isak wants to be in the squad, he is a huge player.

"The situation he is in is not perfect and he has not trained with the team. But he is a player who can decide matches and he wants to be part of our squad. The World Cup is important for Alexander Isak."

Alexander Isak has been named in the Sweden squad despite not playing any football this season as he pushes to leave Newcastle.

The 25-year-old is training away from his club team-mates after making clear he wants to join Liverpool despite having three years left on his contract.

Fellow striker Viktor Gyokeres, who scored his first two goals for Arsenal at the weekend, is also included in Tomasson's squad.

Liverpool have yet to make a fresh bid for Isak since an offer of £110m was rejected at the start of this month.

Isak has since released a statement on social media accusing Newcastle of breaking a promise to allow him to leave this summer.

The Magpies have denied making such a commitment and continue to insist Isak is not for sale.

According to the Mail, external, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are keeping tabs on Manchester United's England midfielder Kobbie Mainoo as the 20-year-old looks for a move away after dropping down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

United are also hoping to agree personal terms with goalkeeper Senne Lammens in order to sign the 23-year-old Belgian from Royal Antwerp before the transfer window closes. This is according to the Telegraph, external.

BBC's senior football correspondent Sami Mokbel has shed some light on Kobbie Mainoo's situation with Manchester United:

"If you got to fight with the captain of the football club for your position, it doesn't bode well for Kobbie Mainoo. My understanding is that, Mainoo reluctantly will consider offers moving forward because he has realised that maybe his opportunities at Manchester United will be few and far between.

"I think there will be a lot of takers. Chelsea have historically had interest in Kobbie Mainoo, but they are well-stocked in central midfield at the moment.

"In a World Cup year, for the guy who started in the Euro 2024 final for England, he needs to be playing football."

City currently have four senior goalkeepers on their books, with summer signing James Trafford starting both league games so far.

The England Under-21 keeper was unconvincing in Saturday's 2-0 home defeat by Tottenham, with Ederson watching on from the substitutes' bench.

The Brazil international has been heavily linked to Galatasaray, like Akanji, but no deal has yet been agreed between the two clubs.

Ederson would need to leave if City were to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris St-Germain, but club sources deny personal terms have been agreed with the Italy number one.

There is an expectation that Stefan Ortega will have left by Monday's deadline, but the German is not close to an exit at this stage.

Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan was left out of the Spurs game for tactical reasons and City are also likely to explore any offers that arrive for the 34-year-old.

Meanwhile, Guardiola says Brazil winger Savinho - who is a Tottenham target - is out injured at the moment.

It is not known whether Spurs and City officials held discussions about Savinho on Saturday, but there were talks earlier in the window.

What is known is that City do not want the forward to leave and it would need a significant offer for them to consider a sale.

With regards to Jadon Sancho, he has interest from Roma, but he is not keen on that move and is waiting to see what else comes up between now and Monday.

But what is sure is that United need to sell and recalibrate the financial books. They have spent a lot of money on their three new forwards, so now it is important for them to maybe get rid of some of the players they don't need and recalibrate the finances.

Crystal Palace have agreed a deal in principle worth up to £26m with Villarreal for Spain winger Yeremy Pino.

The 22-year-old is believed to be open to a move to Selhurst Park and is expected to complete a medical in the coming days.

Pino has a £69m release clause, but with there being less than two years left to run on his contract, Villarreal have decided to accept Palace's offer.

The Eagles have moved for Pino after England forward Eberechi Eze's £60m move to Arsenal last week.

The club have made only two signings this summer - goalkeeper Walter Benitez's arrival from PSV Eindhoven on a free transfer and defender Borna's Sosa's £3m move from Ajax.

Palace have also made a move for Manchester City's 30-year-old Switzerland defender Manuel Akanji, who the club value at £15m.

Sheffield United have signed Danny Ings on a free transfer after the former England striker was released by West Ham United earlier this summer.

The 33-year-old has agreed a one-year contract, with an option for an extension, following a short training period with the club.

Ings will boost the forward options for the Blades, who are without a point so far this season and are bottom of the Championship table having scored one goal in their three league defeats.

Ings scored once in 15 Premier League games for the Hammers last season - one of only five in 69 appearances after signing from Aston Villa in January 2023.

"I've been keeping myself fit and I've just been waiting for the right opportunity," Ings told the Blades website, external.

"I thought this was a great one for me and a chance to progress my career as well."

BBC's senior football correspondent Sami Mokbel believes that there is still no resolution in sight as far as Wissa's future is concerned:

"They (Newcastle United) can't get the deal for Wissa over the line. That's been going on for four weeks, and Wissa is still trying to force his way out of Brentford, and Newcastle can't get the deal done.

"They (Wissa's camp) were under the assumption that once Brentford completed the signing of Dango Ouattara, he could go, provided Newcastle met the asking price. Ouattara is in Brentford, and yet Wissa is hanging on for his move to Newcastle.

Wolves have rejected Newcastle's second bid of £55m for striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

The Magpies returned with another offer after a £50m approach was turned down earlier this week.

Wolves do not want to sell the Norway international given the time they have left in the market, with the transfer window closing on Monday, and how valuable Strand Larsen is to their survival chances.

Newcastle are looking for fresh firepower with Alexander Isak trying to engineer a move to Liverpool and is in a stand-off with the club with the Sweden forward yet to play this season.

Strand Larsen, who only made his loan move from Celta Vigo permanent for £23m this summer, came off the bench to score twice in the final eight minutes as Wolves beat West Ham 3-2 in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

Afterwards, boss Vitor Pereira refused to rule out a sale even if he wants to keep the forward.

He said: "Football is football and every player has a price, even [Lionel] Messi or Cristiano [Ronaldo]. I understand football but for me it's very important for us. We will see what happens.

"If it's my decision, of course [he stays]. He is a very important player."

One simple priority. Midfield.

West Ham have been pursuing midfield reinforcements to add energy and creation all summer - and the search was given added urgency when they lost 3-0 at promoted Sunderland.

Manager Graham Potter needs results and new recruits quickly, with that midfield area a serious source of concern, leading to interest in Southampton's Mateus Fernandes and Barcelona's Marc Casado.

West Ham's alarming lack of pace in that area was brutally exposed at the Stadium of Light.

And at least two midfielders are required, one who can act as a defensive shield in a holding role and another who can give the team greater creativity.
