    Newcastle 2-0 Brentford

Almost a third goal which would put this one to bed. Brentford can't deal with Anthony Gordon and he bends a shot just wide of the far post.

    Newcastle 2-0 Brentford

    Chris Waddle
Former Newcastle & England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Newcastle have played a lot of this game slowly but when they do decide to go for it, they really do. There is a change of pace.

    Brentford don't have that.

  4. Postpublished at 21:04 Greenwich Mean Time

    Newcastle 2-0 Brentford

A lovely corner routine between Lewis Hall and Anthony Gordon. Hall cuts it back to Alexander Isak, who misses the target.

It's lovely to not have VAR... I'm not even an Arsenal fan but it reminds me of the good old days where the attacker got the benefit of the doubt if it's marginal! I might just watch the EFL Cup from now on.

    Arsenal 2-1 Crystal Palace

Yes a reminder there is no VAR in the League Cup, it would definitely have had a look at that as Gabriel Jesus might have just been off.

  9. KICK-OFFpublished at 21:02 Greenwich Mean Time

    Southampton 0-2 Liverpool

Liverpool are 45 minutes from a record 20th League Cup semi-final.

Substitutes have played a heavy part for Arsenal here. Gabriel Jesus had all the time in the world to pick the spot. Sheer power from Jesus beats Dean Henderson in Crystal Palace goal.

The VAR might well have ruled that goal out, but the Arsenal players would not care.

  11. Postpublished at 21:01 Greenwich Mean Time

    Newcastle 2-0 Brentford

    Chris Waddle
Former Newcastle & England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

The game is very scrappy and there's not a lot of quality on show at the moment.

  12. Postpublished at 21:00 Greenwich Mean Time

Big cheers from the home fans as Anthony Gordon wins the ball off Yoane Wissa and then Bruno Guimaraes wins a free-kick.

    His and Arsenal's second!

The Gunners have turned it around and it is another of Mikel Arteta's subs that makes the difference. Bukayo Saka slips the ball through for Gabriel Jesus, who hammers in his second of the game.

  14. 'Liverpool still have work to do'published at 20:59 Greenwich Mean Time

    HT: Southampton 0-2 Liverpool

    Francis Benali
Former Southampton defender on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Liverpool just look like a confident team. They have got a lot of belief. They just look comfortable.

They deserved the two goals and they are worthy leaders so far. But they've still got a lot of work to do in the second half here.

  15. Postpublished at 20:58 Greenwich Mean Time

    Newcastle 2-0 Brentford

    Chris Waddle
Former Newcastle & England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

The longer the game goes on Brentford have to take more risks.

Newcastle just need to sit tight, work hard and not let them get time and space in the final third.

  16. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time

    Arsenal 1-1 Crystal Palace

Off goes Kieran Tierney and he is given a big applause by the Arsenal fans as he goes off. Bukayo Saka then gets an equally big cheer as he comes on.

Raheem Sterling also heads off with Myles Lewis-Skelly replacing him.

  17. Postpublished at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time

Kevin Schade hurls a long throw that's almost as good as a corner. Nathan Collins heads it on to Yoane Wissa, who is in space but sends a bicycle kick over the bar.

Concern here for Arsenal. Kieran Tierney is sat down on the pitch and it looks like he is going to have to go off.

  20. Postpublished at 20:55 Greenwich Mean Time

    Newcastle 2-0 Brentford

Bruno Guimaraes almost concedes a needless corner but Fabian Schar does well to slide it out for a throw-in instead.
