  3. 'Lot of positives for Liverpool'published at 21:59 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

    Francis Benali
Former Southampton defender on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Changes have worked well for Liverpool. They have given minutes and legs to those players who would not have been playing normally. There were some good performances from their players.

There are a lot of positives they will take home from tonight and not just from progressing in the competition.

  8. 'Thought it was a foul on Fernandes'published at 21:52 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December

    Southampton 1-2 Liverpool

    Francis Benali

My reaction was it was a foul on Mateus Fernandes. It certainly looked like it from our position here.

He does get in front of Jarell Quansah. It is one of those decisions that could have easily gone either way.

    Southampton 1-2 Liverpool

    Francis Benali

It's been more direct attacks from Southampton in this second half. The tempo and pace of the game has certainly picked up as we approach the closing stages. It's been more of a cup tie.

Just before the board went up, Federico Chiesa had a chance to seal it for Liverpool. His attempt was blocked.

Chiesa is stealing a living at Liverpool. Dreadful.

    Scudgie

Chiesa has my vote for our worst import in the last decade. He’s absolutely useless and can’t even get the ball under control. Harvey Elliot is screaming at him. What a waste of a shirt number the guy is. Ciao Chiesa.
