The Hibernian fans arriving in Edinburgh's east quarter will be looking for a similar type of performance witnessed in the past few weeks - but with a little more composure in front of goal.

The fact they will be off bottom spot as a consequence of a win today should be the only incentive the players need.

County have their own record to break and hope a winless away run of 15 months comes to an end here in the Scottish capital.

  4. Ferry missing through suspension, Middleton returnspublished at 14:33 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December

    Motherwell v Dundee United (15:00)

Will Ferry is a big loss for Jim Goodwin's Dundee United, with the left-back suspended for the visit to Motherwell. He is the only change from the 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock and is replaced by Glenn Middleton.

Middleton or Liverpool loanee Luca Stephenson could step into the left wing-back role, or there could be a change of shape using Kevin Holt's versatility.

There is a boost on the bench as Ross Graham returns from injury to be named among the substitutes.

St Johnstone last weekend earned a deserved draw at Aberdeen – one could even make a case they deserved all three points at Pittodrie.

And that kind of sums up where they are at just now – a team undoubtedly improving, but one that isn’t winning enough games. They will see this afternoon’s McDiarmid Park encounter as a great opportunity to turn some of that progress into three points.

Ninth-placed St Johnstone are just two points off the bottom but if they win today they will move to within a point of seventh-placed St Mirren.

In terms of the visitors, just a week or so ago it looked like a corner had been turned with regards to their form as they served up a four-game unbeaten run – one which consisted of three wins and a draw.

Now, they find themselves travelling to Perth on the back of two defeats.

A win today and they will undoubtedly continue to look above them in the table. Another defeat may well have some of their fans starting to look over their shoulders.
