  1. Slot on possible rotationpublished at 10:27 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

Liverpool v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

More from Arne Slot on rotation: "If there was three, four, five days in between the last game and this one I would have probably started the same 11 again, even if there was only two days in between for the next one.

"Since there is only two days in between and we had to fight really hard and it's not the first game after being out for three or four weeks, it’s probably the 50th game in three months - I don't know how many - so you take that into account but you take the quality from the team you face, you take the form of the players, how fit they are, which players fit best together."

  2. 'Southampton is a very important one for us'published at 10:24 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

Liverpool v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot on team selection: "For me the one against Southampton is by far the most important, not only because it's the first one we play but it is a very important one for us.

"If I make the choice to play other players that is because I think that's the biggest chance to win the game tomorrow and not because I want to rest them for the game against PSG."

  3. 'The harder you work the more luck you have'published at 10:19 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

Liverpool v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot on the game against PSG: "I would say we weren't a little bit lucky, we were really lucky but as Michael Jordan once said ‘the harder you work the more luck you have’ and this is the biggest compliment you have to give the players. They have worked incredibly hard and I think the second half we didn't control ball possession, not the dominant team at all but we controlled them better than in the first half."

  4. 'World-class saves'published at 10:15 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

Liverpool v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot on what sets Alisson apart as a goalkeeper: "Saving shots!"

"No, I think to become the best goalkeeper in the world you sometimes need to make saves others wouldn't make. I think he made one or two on Wednesday. He had two world-class saves in big moments for us."

  5. Lascelles edging closer to fitnesspublished at 10:12 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

West Ham v Newcastle (Mon, 20:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Finally, Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe gave an update on the fitness of defender Jamaal Lascelles: "He is making good progress. He is back out on the grass but not training with the team yet. I would say he will be really happy currently with where he is at - he is super lean and super fit.

"He is now entering the last stage of his recovery from injury and hopefully we will see him soon."

  6. 'Hall injury is a big blow for him and us'published at 10:09 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

West Ham v Newcastle (Mon, 20:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe on the news that Lewis Hall is out for the season: "It's really disappointing. At this moment of the season, we have the cup final and Lewis also had possible international experience coming up.

"He was in really good form and playing well so it's a big blow for him and us. The most important thing now is his recovery and making sure he comes back as good as he has been.

"Initially like with any player, he would have taken it quite emotionally and you expect that because there is so much at stake. Lewis was giving everything to get to this moment and to win a trophy for this football club - that was his aim and that was in his head. I think now he is in a much better place."

  7. Botman out for eight weekspublished at 10:06 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

West Ham v Newcastle (Mon, 20:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe on the fitness of Sven Botman: "With Sven we have been trying to get him close to full fitness and he was actually very close for the Brighton game, but the day before he felt the same problem in his knee. That meant a reset and we still hoped he could come back but this week again he felt the same discomfort so now it looks like he will have to have an operation.

"We hope he will be back in around eight weeks."

Arne Slot might still be wondering how his Liverpool side escaped with a 1-0 win over Paris St-Germain on Wednesday night but the main focus of his attention will have switched back to Premier League issues following the game at the Parc des Princes.

The Reds host Southampton on Saturday in what is their only top flight game during March.

A win will move Liverpool 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League and pile the pressure on second-placed Arsenal to win their two games in hand against Manchester United on Sunday and Chelsea a week later.

Slot will be speaking to the media shortly before the game at Southampton, who are bottom of the top flight.

The game will be the last of Slot's two-game touchline ban for the red card he picked up in the aftermath of the 2-2 draw at Everton, meaning he'll be back in the dugout for the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United on 16 March.

  10. What games will Anthony Gordon miss?published at 09:58 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

Newcastle's decision not to appeal Anthony Gordon's red card means he will definitely miss the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool at Wembley on 16 March.

He will also sit out Monday's Premier League trip to West Ham and the home game with Brentford on 2 April.

The England international will next be available for the game away at Leicester on 7 April.

  11. Not 'sufficient grounds' to appeal Gordon red cardpublished at 09:54 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

West Ham v Newcastle (Mon, 20:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe was asked why the club didn't appeal Anthony Gordon's red card: "It's always a discussion point and we discussed it with a club with the respective people we needed to discuss it with - lawyers etc - and we felt there wasn't sufficient grounds to do that.

"There was no intention from Anthony. He didn't mean to hurt anybody. But, you have to look at it and ask if there is any chance of being successful and if there is no chance then what is the point of appealing and Anthony understands that."

Brighton v Fulham (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler was also asked about the race for Europe: “It’s very important we focus on our journey and that we really believe in it. Yesterday I received a picture from a mountain. In a mountain you always have new peaks, new peaks you have to climb. That’s the goal for us we have to climb new peaks.”

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler on Joel Veltman, who has extended his stay at the club for another year: "I think he has proved this season so far he's a great player. He has helped us in very difficult situations. He knows what to do to win Premier League games, on top of that he's a great character. We are all happy he will stay one more year."

  15. Dunk at the dartspublished at 09:39 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

While we are on the subject of Brighton, Seagulls captain Lewis Dunk looked to be enjoying himself at the darts on Thursday evening.

Not only did he witness two nine-darts on the night, but he also caught the eye of the Sky Sports cameras thanks to his sign.

He had the name of his manager Fabian Hurzeler on there, followed by lots of ins and outs with crosses through each.

Going out on a limb, it appears that he is taking a dig at some of the more indecisive fans in the fanbase - or football supporters in general - who are often changing their minds about whether they want a manager in or out of a football club.

  18. Spurs and Man Utd still expected to progress in Europa Leaguepublished at 09:30 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

According to the supercomputer they are!

Despite falling to a 1-0 defeat by AZ Alkmaar yesterday evening, Tottenham remain fourth favourites to lift the Europa League. They have a 50.6% chance to overturn the one goal deficit next week, while they are given a 9.7% chance to win the whole thing.

Manchester United are just behind in fifth with a 9.3% likelihood to win the competition, while they are given a huge 61.8% chance to progress beyond Real Sociedad next week.

Rangers were right down in 15th prior to the first leg but have risen to 10th favourites to win the competition - though they have only been given a 3.1% probability by the supercomputer. They are, however, expected to make it through unscathed next week as they have been given an 86.6% chance to make the quarter-finals.

Antony was in the goal involvement column again yesterday evening as Real Betis drew 1-1 with Vitoria Guimaraes.

He provided the assist for Cedric Bakambu to give Betis the lead early in the second half.

That assist was his third since joining the Spanish side on loan from Manchester United and means he has now eclipsed the two he mustered in the entirety of 2023-24 with United, in just eight appearances.

He's also provided three goals in those eight appearances - the same amount he totalled across 38 last year.

If you look at the teams currently around the Europa League places (Newcastle, Bournemouth, Brighton) you'd expect them to batter that poor Sociedad side. Wondering if that was a good draw for Man Utd just shows how embarrassingly low they've sunk.
