Falkirk moved five points clear at the top of the Scottish Championship after a dominant win away to Greenock Morton.
Home goalkeeper Ryan Mullen did well to keep out early efforts by Calvin Miller and Dylan Tait.
But Mullen could do nothing to stop Scott Arfield's fifth goal in three games - a superb curling shot from outside the box.
Falkirk were stroking the ball around with confidence and Ethan Ross, who had assisted the opener, burrowed his way from left and slotted in to the same right corner Arfield had found.
Miller Thomson's volley crept just wide of the Morton goal in the second period and Brad Spencer's free-kick was tipped over by Mullen as the hosts' 11-game unbeaten run came to an end.
Ayr United can return to within two points of Falkirk by beating visitors Livingston, which is one of four second-tier fixtures on Saturday (15:00 GMT).
Greenock Morton manager Dougie Imrie: "A bit disappointed. We don't think we got anywhere near them, first half. We gave them too much respect. The two goals could've been avoided.
"We have to go on another run. They're capable of doing that, they've shown that. Take nothing away from my group. In the last four months, they've shown how good they can be."
Falkirk manager John McGlynn: "We did the damage in the first half. We were very professional in the second half. A good night's work. Two really good goals.
"Other teams have come here and struggled. We've come here, clean sheet, goalkeeper's had not an awful lot to do. We were very, very solid at the back. They've got a threat but I don't think we allowed them to create that threat."
