Match Facts

  • This will be the first ever meeting between Sturm Graz and Girona in European competition, although it is the second straight UEFA Champions League campaign to feature a game between Austrian and Spanish opposition (after two RB Salzburg v Real Sociedad games last season – W1 D1 for the Spanish side).

  • Sturm Graz have never won against a Spanish side in Europe, losing five of their six such matches (D1). In their four games to take place in the UEFA Champions League, they’ve lost all four and conceded 18 goals in the process.

  • Spanish sides have won five of their last six away games against Austrian opponents in the UEFA Champions League (L1), with the only defeat in this run being suffered by Sevilla in December 2021 (0-1 v RB Salzburg).

  • Sturm Graz have lost all four of their matches in the UEFA Champions League this season. If they lose here, it’d be the most consecutive defeats they’ve suffered from the start of a single campaign in major European competition (5, excluding qualifiers).

  • Girona have lost both of their away games in the UEFA Champions League this term, both without scoring a goal (0-1 v Paris SG and 0-4 v PSV). No Spanish side has ever lost their first three away matches in the competition.

  • Sturm Graz have scored just one goal in the UEFA Champions League this season, while that was an own goal by Brest’s Edimilson Fernandes on MD1. The Austrian side have the lowest expected goals total (2.23) in the competition this term, with only Lille (24) having attempted fewer shots than them (34) so far.

  • Half of the goals Girona have conceded in the UEFA Champions League this season have been own goals (50% - 4/8). Indeed, this is already the most own goals a team have shipped in a single campaign in the competition (4).

  • Three of the four goals Girona have scored in the UEFA Champions League this term have been netted by defenders (David López, Miguel Gutiérrez and Juanpe), with Arnaut Danjuma (1) being the only non-defender to score for the Spanish side in 2024-25.

  • Across the opening four matchdays of the UEFA Champions League this season, Sturm Graz’s Jusuf Gazibegovic was one of only two players to attempt 5+ shots (5), create 5+ chances (5), make 5+ tackles (10) and 5+ interceptions (5), along with PSV’s Malik Tillman.

  • Along with being one of their four goalscorers, Miguel Gutiérrez leads all Girona players in the UEFA Champions League for chances created (7) and completed dribbles (8), as well as recovering possession more times than any other player for Míchel’s side (21).
