Christian Saydee's goal was his first for Wigan

First-half goals from Christian Saydee and captain Jason Kerr gave Wigan a comfortable home victory over Peterborough.

Wigan opened the scoring inside five minutes when Fraser Murray crossed for Saydee to plant a header firmly into the roof of the net from five yards.

Peterborough should have equalised almost immediately when Harley Mills' cross was lashed over the bar from bang in front by Brandon Khela.

And Wigan made the most of the let-off as they doubled the lead in the 28th minute when, after Callum Wright had been denied by Vicente Reyes, Kerr nodded into the corner of the net.

Wigan picked up where they left off after the break and could have added two goals in the two minutes immediately after the restart.

Saydee fired wide after Dara Costelloe had been denied by Reyes, before Saydee teed up Wright, who blazed over the top from 10 yards out.

Costelloe fired wide after good work from substitute Maleace Asamoah Jnr, with Posh being denied even a consolation at the end when Sam Tickle thwarted Cian Hayes and Archie Collins' shot was hacked off the line by Luke Robinson.
