  2. Malacia back trainingpublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 24 September

Man Utd v FC Twente (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

I have just watched the start of Manchester United's training session at quite close quarters.

There was the usual joviality around the Rondos session (if you think it is easy to keep the ball in the circle give it a go) with players getting nutmegged.

    Defender Tyrell Malacia was there.

It is being stressed Malacia was only involved in the warm-up as he continues his recovery from major knee surgery.

However, it must be good for him to be out there.

He last played in June 2023.

  3. Newcastle's donation to help repair Wimbledon's pitchpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 24 September

After all the talk of dark arts this week, how about this to lift the mood?

Earlier, we told you how AFC Wimbledon's EFL Cup match with Newcastle was postponed because of heavy flooding and damage to the pitch.

There's now the worry that the Dons won't be able to host games in the near future. So, to improve their prospects, a Wimbledon fan has set up a JustGiving page.

At the time of writing, Graham Stacey has received 55 thousand pounds of his 100 thousand pound target, including a 15 thousand pound donation from a certain Newcastle United.

  4. 'There's no sugar daddy sponsoring the club'published at 15:24 British Summer Time 24 September

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Football reporter Edmund Brack from the South London Press told BBC Radio 5 Live about the damage to Wimbledon's pitch: "I think they're going to have to relay the pitch and there was also concern that there was damage to the club's memorabilia like their FA Cup trophy.

"For a small club in League Two there's no sugar daddy who's sponsoring the club, but there are fans that support the club week in and week out that have poured money into the football club and continue to do with donation pages set up.

"Previous players such as Jack Curry, Lee Brown and Kasey McAteer have all donated to the cause to fix the damage and repairs."

  5. 'It is utterly devastating'published at 15:20 British Summer Time 24 September

    BBC Radio 5 Live

One match that won't be played tonight is AFC Wimbledon v Newcastle.

It was postponed after overnight rain on Sunday caused "extensive" flooding of the River Wandle and surrounding areas.

As shown on the photo below, it appears that there has been significant damage to the pitch.

The rearranged fixture will now take place at St James' Park next week.

Edmund Brack from the South London Press said: "It's utterly devastating in terms of the setback that it is going to cause the football club for the next few months.

"Any normal pitch which is laid for a football club ahead of a season is normally done over the summer. Now Wimbledon has to look at the next six to eight weeks to lay it and get it ready for League Two football.

"Whilst also navigating where they are going to play their own games over the next few months.

"For a football club who has got a lot right in terms of recruitment and getting the squad ready for League Two, this has been a massive setback."

  6. 'I prefer facts to words' - Arteta on 'dark arts' claimspublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 24 September

Arsenal: Arteta hits back at 'dark arts' claim

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says his side's tactics in Sunday's 2-2 draw against Manchester City were "normal".

The Gunners conceded a 98th-minute equaliser at Etihad Stadium, having been reduced to 10 men following Leandro Trossard's sending off in first-half stoppage time.

Arsenal were accused of time-wasting against City, with John Stones and Kyle Walker saying the Gunners used the "dark arts" while protecting their 2-1 lead.

  7. People have to trust me over Rashford - Ten Hagpublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 24 September

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says he has to be "trusted" over his reasons for dropping Marcus Rashford to the bench for Saturday's 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.

Prior to the match Ten Hag said the England forward was returning to his best form after taking control of his career, scoring three times in two games.

But the Dutchman then unexpectedly left Rashford out in favour of Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo, with the 26-year-old replacing Joshua Zirkzee after an hour.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp claimed "there's obviously something that’s happened" for Ten Hag to leave Rashford out.

That theory was rejected as "crazy" after the game, with Ten Hag saying he was just rotating his squad, adding: "As a person you are not OK when you bring such speculation if you don't know what's going on."

  8. De Bruyne nears returnpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time 24 September

Man City v Watford (Tuesday, 19:45 BST)

Manchester City host Championship club Watford in the Carabao Cup third round tonight and midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, who missed Sunday's draw against Arsenal with a minor injury, is unlikely to feature against the Hornets.

Asked when De Bruyne is likely to return, Guardiola said: "I don't think it will be long."

City manager Pep Guardiola also said he asked his players to "focus on the game and defend yourself" if they feel other teams are employing time-wasting against them.

Several City players spoke after Sunday's 2-2 draw against Arsenal in less than complimentary terms about the Gunners' approach to holding on to their 2-1 lead in the second half at Etihad Stadium.

Asked if he gives his players instructions on how to deal with occasions when they feel the opposition is attempting to "spoil the game", Guardiola said: "Focus on the game and defend yourself, focus on what we have to do, try to do what we’ve done for many, many years. But defend yourself, that is all I ask.

"The behaviours we cannot control, don't go away from what is really important - the game. We are an honest team. We go there and try to do our best."

Yesterday Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca looked ahead to Chelsea's game this evening against Barrow.

BBC Sport football reporter Nizaar Kinsella is expecting Chelsea to make 'wholesale changes' to their squad.

Maresca confirmed Malo Gusto is fit and available for the match, while Romeo Lavia has returned to training and will "hopefully" be ready for the Brighton game on Saturday.

Maresca said this game will be a "good chance" for those players who have not had regular minutes in the Premier League to get some time on the pitch, confirming that Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka and some academy players will be involved.

He acknowledged a "dangerous" game against Barrow: "Football is full of these kinds of games where you think it is an easy game and then it is a sticky game. In this moment, it is probably the worst game for us. This is why we need to take it seriously."

It has been a rollercoaster. When he [Farhad Moshiri] first come in we were very optimistic.

The scattergun approach in terms of recruitment landed us in so much trouble. It seemed like we were throwing money at the issues instead of dealing with the source of the issues.

That all culminated in the financial difficulties we've had in the last few seasons.

His legacy will be the stadium [Everton's new stadium being built], that stadium would have not happened without him – that is one thing you can say thank you to him for.

In terms of the management situation Sean Dyche knows he's not safe in his job. The pressure will be ramped up - Dyche will be under illusions that the performances have to pick up.

There are still positives - our performances have been OK and I have seen a lot from this side.

It's just a case of picking up wins.

Watching the Ipswich and Southampton game, both teams have a clear identity.

I think Luton didn't show that until October or early November last season. Southampton need to cut out silly mistakes if you want to play out from the back. I don't think they should throw everything out just yet though.

With Ipswich, they'll get confident. The majority of that group came from League One to Championship to Premier League. There is always going to be a bit of adaptation and they are improving every game.

It's difficult at the moment to see what teams will be in trouble this season.

I obviously get why Rodri gets all the love but, City fans, have you forgotten about Mateo Kovacic? I'm a big fan. The guy is super professional and so technical in the middle of the park.

  18. Rodri's impact from the benchpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 24 September

The reason why counting or not counting Rodri's substituted appearances as games 'with Rodri' matters so much is because City have won 10 of 12 of them, drawing the other two.

If Man City take 2.2 points from their remaining 33 games, they would finish with 85 points.

The last time a team won the Premier League title with less than 85 points was when Leicester City lifted the trophy at the end of the 2015-16 campaign - they finished with 81 points that season.

    Rodri's impact from the bench

As you can see, he came on very late in most of them and Man City were already winning all of them without him when he came on.

In fact, they conceded two late equalisers v Newcastle and Crystal Palace when he did come on.

However, the 33 games which Rodri has not started has resulted in a 21.2% loss record compared to a 11.7% loss record to the 162 games which he started.

  19. Manchester City set to play Watfordpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 24 September

Manchester City v Watford (Tues, 19:45 BST)

    Manchester City

Manchester City are in action later again tonight against Championship side Watford in the EFL Cup, after only playing Arsenal 48 hours ago.

Pep Guardiola is expect to make significant changes to his side, and one player we can be sure that won't be involved is the Spanish midfielder Rodri, due to a knee injury that looks set to rule him out for an extended period of time.

To be honest, I thought Trent Alexander-Arnold might leave us this summer given how chummy him and Bellingham were at the Euros. He deserves a new adventure if he wants it, he has given LFC so much already.
