Talking about time wasting, it's alright adding the time on at the end, but it's the disruption to the flow of the game that goes unpunished. Even the occasional yellow card for the goalkeeper seems to have disappeared.

Erik ten Hag wanted to hold his press conference much later this afternoon.

But it would have clashed with FC Twente's media access at Old Trafford, so UEFA asked for a switch.

Manchester United relented, so we are here much earlier than anticipated - and a long time before their training session at 1430 BST.

"Happy? No. Because we wanted to win the three games, but I understand how tough that context is and how difficult it is.

"The things we have to deal with and our own issues with the amount of players we have out. It is a significant improvement and we have to be happy with that."

Mikel Arteta kept very quiet regarding which players may have sustained an injury against Manchester City.

In total four players [Riccardo Calafiori, David Raya, Jurrien Timber and Gabriel Martinelli] went down with cramp. Arteta said: "I always prefer the facts than words or supposing things. Let's see who's available tomorrow and then we can talk about dark arts, or these things.

Not only have UEFA expanded their club competitions this season, they have already created additional 'exclusive' weeks for all three, so the eight match days are being played over 10 weeks.

This is the exclusive Europa League week, which is why Manchester United take on Dutch side FC Twente - Erik ten Hag's childhood club - having played Barnsley in the EFL Cup last week.

Ten Hag and full-back Noussair Mazraoui, who has excelled since his summer move from Bayern Munich, will be facing the media at 11:00 BST.

  12. 'Man City are also masters of the dark arts'published at 10:37 British Summer Time 24 September

    Andros Townsend
Luton Town midfielder on the Monday Night Club

Manchester City are also masters of the dark arts. If you have a counter attack, they will pull you down and take the yellow. Manchester City are complaining this time but they are also guilty of being involved in the dark arts.

I've been in many dressing rooms where Man City and Liverpool have brought it. We're told to watch them and look how smart they are, they don't let teams counter, they stop it at source and don't concede goals on the counter.

I'm a Liverpool fan and I'm absolutely fine with Alexander-Arnold going to Real Madrid in the summer because face it, he will be. They're the best team in the world and home to the unconventional wing-back. He's hinted he wants trophies and mentioned we won the Carabao Cup last year as a side note. The guy wants league and European titles. He said he wants to be elite and although Liverpool are a great team, Madrid are nailed on to win four out of every six league titles, and Champions leagues practically. He's also mentioned that he's been at Liverpool for 20 years now, so he looks to be trying to soften us up. What better way to go to Madrid than as a free agent bagging a mammoth sign on fee to boot. Say hi to Jude for us. Good luck and thanks Trent, YNWA

Surely it isn't that easy to imagine him leaving, Liverpool fans?!

The gamesmanship and time wasting towards the end of the game. As an ex-player, I'm a massive hypocrite because I would have done exactly the same, but watching on the television I can imagine how the Man City players were completely rattled. Arsenal were brilliant at it.

David Raya, 20 seconds at least every time he got the ball. He had a marvellous game but he was a master at it. I don't know how they came up with seven minutes at the end, it could have been 15 or 20 minutes with the nature of their time wasting. They were brilliant at it.

It has always been around. You don't have to be a winning team. Teams have been time wasting since the year dot, that's the way it has been. I think it was far worse if you went back to my era. The issue now is that there are cameras everywhere, so you can't get away with everything as we did back in the day - holding from corners, stepping on toes and things going on in the tunnel before the game.

It's definitely a rivalry, but it's not a legendary rivalry. To be an iconic rivalry it needs to be City win the league then Arsenal the next year and back to City.

I remember the battle of the Bridge with Spurs against Chelsea. That carried over for a couple of years, so there will definitely be a carry over from this game.

That's what we want from two teams going head-to-head. We want an edge and an element of dislike. In terms of a rivalry, Arsenal have to win something to make it a rivalry. We can't call it a rivalry if Manchester City are cleaning up and winning everything.

I like it when you see something with Haaland at the end of the game and the 'humble' stuff to Arteta. I think it shows authenticity. That's what we want to watch.

Everyone will be wanting to watch everything when they meet again. You'll want a camera in the tunnel to see what happens in there.

Maybe hindsight speaking, but with Rodri key to City, and constantly talking about burnout, why hasn't Pep brought him off at 60 minutes in most games? It's a squad game, with five subs allowed.

On Trent Alexander-Arnold possibly leaving Liverpool...

I don't think he wants to leave Liverpool, or is searching to leave. If there is interest from Real Madrid, I don't think you can turn it down. He's won the Champions League and Premier League at Liverpool - he's won the lot.

I don't think you can turn Real Madrid down.

  20. 'Maybe the fixture list has been nice to us'published at 09:56 British Summer Time 24 September

Liverpool v West Ham (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on Liverpool's defensive record: "The defence has been really good, although I think in the last game we used our goalkeeper too many times to keep the clean sheet.

"And I looked at the league table, at the positions of the teams that we have faced so far and I think most of them are in the bottom half of the table. There are a lot of difficult teams that we still have to face, so let's see where we are after facing those teams. Maybe the fixture list has been nice to us when you look at the league table."
