Summary

  1. 'It will be Real Madrid'published at 09:52 British Summer Time 24 September

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on the Monday Night Club

I think he [Trent Alexander-Arnold] will go to Real Madrid.

There's a reason why he's running his contract down. He has to defend himself and say his contracts previously have been done privately, but it's unusual for a club of Liverpool's size, and what he's done there, to be in the last nine months of his contract.

It's different for Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah - they are in their thirties. For Trent Alexander-Arnold this shouldn't be happening.

How many clubs are out there that are bigger than Real Madrid? Where could he naturally go to? It will be Real Madrid.

  2. 'He's been a good defender all his life'published at 09:47 British Summer Time 24 September

Liverpool v West Ham (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on Trent Alexander-Arnold's defending: "Yeah it's difficult for me to judge how it has been in years before - we are talking here about a player that won the Champions League and a league title. He mentioned himself [Trent] that winning a league is about defending. It's clear to me then that he's been a good defender all his life.

"But because he's so so special with the ball the main emphasis goes to him doing special things with the ball. With him it's not about if he's capable of doing things, it's his concentration rate and being 100% focused.

"This is what we talk about a lot, that he always has to be active in every situation of the game even if the ball is far away from him. It's not that he's learned how to defend in the last three months; he's won the league and the Champions League!

"It's just getting him to understand what is necessary for him to play the best possible game and that's what we talk about with all the individuals but also with him."

  3. 'If they get better then the team does as well'published at 09:40 British Summer Time 24 September

Liverpool v West Ham (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on Trent Alexander-Arnold praising his coaching: "I think we all remember the day that Jurgen [Klopp] left and what that man meant to him [Trent Alexander-Arnold]. So you can assume how good of a relationship the two of them had, so to hear him say this about his new manager is always nice. It's not always easy to come in and replace a manager like him.

"But it's the same with Trent as it is with the others, they are get a lot of individual attention to make them better because if they get better then the team does as well."

  4. 'Every player is hungry to get playing time'published at 09:36 British Summer Time 24 September

Liverpool v West Ham (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on the motivation of his players: "I think every player is hungry to get playing time. If you play every week you're hungry to stay in the team. There is so much competition in this team. They play for a great club with great supporters, so who wouldn't want to play for a club like this?"

  5. 'We would all love to win something'published at 09:33 British Summer Time 24 September

Liverpool v West Ham (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on the possibility of retaining the Carabao Cup: "Not only fans love winning trophies, players and managers love it as well. We would all love to win something but that's far away. We have to win this game tomorrow, and like I said it's a tough one against West Ham."

  6. West Ham had 'tough start'published at 09:30 British Summer Time 24 September

Liverpool v West Ham (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on West Ham: "They had a tough start and faced some tough opponents. I saw during their games that they have had some really good spells as well and are just unlucky with results.

"They have brought in a lot of good players in the summer who haven't been implemented yet but tomorrow might be a chance for them to start. They will come back stronger because of all the quality they already had last season, what they've added and also with a good manager as well."

  7. Chiesa to start against West Ham?published at 09:26 British Summer Time 24 September

Liverpool v West Ham (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on the possible inclusion of Federico Chiesa against West Ham in the third round of the Carabao Cup: "I don't think he is able to play 90 minutes. He has only played 25 minutes in the last three or five months. I don't think he's played any friendlies at Juventus as well, but he's able to start in our opinion."

  8. Kelleher to start in goalpublished at 09:22 British Summer Time 24 September

Liverpool v West Ham (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on starting goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher: "Caoimhin will be in goal on Wednesday. Alisson is getting there but I think this game has come a bit too earlier. We're looking at this weekend with the game against Wolves, but it's looking a bit tight."

  9. 'We will play with the best possible team'published at 09:17 British Summer Time 24 September

Liverpool v West Ham (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on how strong a side he will field: "I want all of them to play, but unfortunately that is not possible because you can only play 11.

"We will play with the best possible team, which means that players who are a bit more tired from playing a lot might mean I select different players, but they will come in today and I'll make the decision."

  13. Fresh footage of Raya treatment emergespublished at 09:00 British Summer Time 24 September

Fresh footage has emerged of Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya going down for treatment under instruction from the Gunners bench during Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Debate has been swirling since the game about the visitors’ perceived time-wasting tactics and how much stoppage time there should have been.

BBC Sport has obtained footage, which has been published by other media outlets, shot from a wider camera position, high up in the stand opposite the dug-outs, showing a member of the Arsenal backroom team gesturing for Raya to go down as he gets ready to take a goal-kick midway through the second-half.

At the same time, Arsenal substitute Myles Lewis-Skelly, who had been warming up close to the corner flag, runs down the goal-line and attracts Raya’s attention.

Raya then spots the ball, before walking backwards and sitting down saying he needs treatment.

Most of the Arsenal players are then called to the bench to allow manager Mikel Arteta to offer instructions.

Lewis-Skelly was booked for unsporting behaviour but Raya was not cautioned for simulation because referee Michael Oliver did not know what had been said between the Arsenal duo.

Rodri is incredibly important to City. In the run of normal fixtures they will be fine.

Where it makes a difference is if Rodri is out for a long period of time and you have to play a Champions League semi-final, that is where it becomes an issue.

For the vast majority of Premier League games a Croatian international in Mateo Kovacic, formerly of Real Madrid and Chelsea – he can probably fill in.

The statistics for Man City with and without Rodri are well publicised and of course he will be missed, but I don't understand the hysteria from some quarters. Yes, they will have to adjust, but surely they have a big enough and strong enough squad to do so. My club, Villa, have been without Mings, Kamara and Buendia for over a season, but we have a great manager who adjusts the team to compensate, resulting in Rogers and Tielemans stepping up. If Pep is as good as people say, then surely he can do the same.

The way he [Rodri] pulled up and grabbed his knee, I would be very surprised if it wasn’t anything else but his ACL.

  17. 'Further tests to be done'published at 08:37 British Summer Time 24 September

    Rory Smith

    More sources on Rodri's injury...

The Athletic, external, ESPN , externaland Marca , externalare all saying it is an ACL [anterior cruciate ligament].

But, they are also saying there are further tests to be done. [Which was reported earlier by our own Simon Stone].

So, until those test are done, we cannot be certain.

Unpopular opinion but I don't get it with Rodri to be honest. He's a good player, but massively overrated. Spain were better when he went off at half-time v England, him slowing the game down suited England. Nowhere near as good as Vieira, Kante or Keane for me.
