Spurs have lost four finals since our last trophy. Not hopeful, but at least we still have something to play for!

  3. 'This is a club of trophies'published at 23:04 British Summer Time

FT: Man Utd 4-1 Athletic Bilbao (agg 7-1)

    Manchester United

Manchester United defender Leny Yoro: "I’ve tried to bring the ball forward to help the team to score goals. I managed to pass to Mason and he did really well. We’re really happy with the win.

"It was difficult for me in the beginning [of his United career] with the injury and even with my performances on the pitch when I first returned but now I’m 100%, I start to be good and I hope to be like that until the end of the season and into next season.

"I’m still a young player but on the pitch this means nothing. When you join a big club like Manchester United you have to settle quickly because the fans are waiting for you, even with a big transfer like I had. So yeah it was important to settle really quickly.

"I come to Manchester United to achieve big things, to win trophies, so when you see players like Rio Ferdinand, Vidic, Varane you want to achieve the same things as them, stay in the memory of fans and be a big defender. When they compare me to them it’s a real honour, I’m proud of this. I’m trying to be the best I can.

"When you play for Manchester United you need to feel this - this is a club of trophies. I think it will be important to think about this, we’re Manchester United and need to win trophies.

"I feel confident. I’m 100% focused on the game. If you put too pressure on yourself you cannot play your game so I just think about the game that’s it.

"I speak a lot with the coach and I’ve spoken to Rio [Ferdinand] and not always in front of the cameras. Sometimes they just give me an advice. When a player like Rio can give you advice you need to take it. I try to do my best and what they tell me to do."

  4. 'It's disrespectful to say it's bigger for either club'published at 23:02 British Summer Time

    Phil Jones
Former Manchester United defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I know people talk about how Man Utd has lot its attraction for players but it'll never lose that because it's the biggest club in the world.

It's a bit disrespectful to say it's bigger for one club or the other but I do think, for Man Utd to get back in the Champions League, it's a huge step in the right direction.

The league form has been nowhere near what's expected this season but it gives them a platform to try and implement something better next season and try and attract higher calibre players.

You can't call it. It's a massive game for both clubs. I'm not sure if Spurs do or don't win the final, Ange Postecoglou will be in charge next season. I think they've already made their mind up.

Yes Spurs! European finalist again for the second time in six years (would be considered good for most clubs). In Ange we trust. COYS.

The point is that the Europa League no longer has Champions League drop ins so it is now easier to win. It really is a back door entrance. Maybe the point is that it should be for teams outside the top five leagues.

    Owen Hargreaves
Former Manchester United midfielder on TNT Sports

It's going to be fascinating. For Ange, a European trophy, Champions League football, there is so much at stake for everyone. but if United in a down season can win a trophy and get into Champions League, it tells you what the club is all about. Right now, momentum is with Manchester United with the energy around the club at the moment

I understand why a lot of people are against teams so low in the league qualifying for the Champions league. However, the teams they have beaten in the Europa League are very good and on paper better than United right now. To beat these teams means they are in the final on merit. Credit where it is due.

  10. 'Both these squads aren't ready for the Champions League'published at 22:54 British Summer Time

    Paul Robinson
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live at Aspmyra Stadion

I said before the game that both of these squads aren't ready for the Champions League. Both need the Champions League and the influx of money that it brings and they'll have to recruit heavily in the summer to compete at the top end of the competition.

A club of the size and stature of Man Utd and the recent history of where they've been and where they're trying to get to, Champions League was part of their staple diet and it hasn't been for a number of years, regularly guaranteed and especially now with the change of manager and where they are this season.

For Tottenham, the immediate silverware and the influx of money it brings and some kind of stability is important and Man Utd just being associated with that competition once again.

  11. 'Final is poised to be brilliant'published at 22:53 British Summer Time

    Izzy Christiansen
Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

We can safely say the final is going to be exquisite, in terms of, it's going to be dramatic because both teams are unable to see a game out right now. That creates more excitement for the fans. I imagine both managers don't want to see that.

I think the final is poised to be absolutely brilliant. Both teams have a point to prove and have many parallels in the Premier League this season and I can't wait.

  12. 'Very happy to reach the final'published at 22:51 British Summer Time

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca speaking to TNT Sports: "Very happy, the job is done tonight and now we have almost 20 days to prepare for this final and hopefully we can win this trophy.

On the 1-0 win tonight: "It's good overall, good performance with many young players. It is almost a second team. Very happy for the young boys and very happy to reach the final."

On Reggie Walsh: "How good is he? You can see that he is a good player. He is that kind of player that we like, very good. For sure he is young and he has many things to do and to grow. Very happy for him, very happy for his family and he has to enjoy this moment."

On the young players taking their moment: "It's important for them, it's important for us, it's important for the rest. We have three more Premier League games before the final, we can be focused on that and then hopefully we can win the title."

On the momentum Chelsea have created: "We are in a good mood, a good run of results but now we have another game in less than 72 hours so we have to focus on that. [Newcastle] is a huge game. We have three more games and they are all important."

  13. Champions League place debatepublished at 22:49 British Summer Time

    Man Utd 4-1 Athletic Bilbao

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter at Old Trafford

I really don't get the debate around the Europa League winners going into the Champions League.

    It is long established.

The format of the Europa League has changed, which arguably favours richer clubs from bigger countries but I don't see why people should suddenly start moaning because two teams from England who have not done very well in the league are in the final.

Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa might - possibly - be in the same situation next season.

  14. 'If I could lift the trophy, I would be very happy'published at 22:47 British Summer Time

FT: Chelsea 1-0 Djurgarden (agg 5-1)

    Chelsea

Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong speaking to TNT Sports: "Playing in the Europa Conference League has been really enjoyable, a chance to play at Stamford Bridge and away so it has been good."

On manager Enzo Maresca: "He gives me a lot of confidence so every time I get on the pitch, I want to repay him and try my best. I love the club so as long as I can stay here my whole life, I will do it."

On Reggie Walsh: "It's the first time I have played with Reggie as well, I told him just to replicate his game."

On what it would mean to him to lift the trophy: "It's a dream, I didn't think I would get this far in such a short space of time. If I could lift the trophy, I would be really excited, really happy."

  15. 'Odds in Man Utd's favour'published at 22:45 British Summer Time

FT: Man Utd 4-1 Athletic Bilbao (7-1 agg)

    Paul Scholes
Former Manchester United midfielder on TNT Sports

History tells me United have a great chance. We know Tottenham have beaten them three times and Tottenham will think they right a chance.

For some reason, the history of this club is almost like Real Madrid at times. When they aren't playing that well they can still go on and win European cups. I just feel the odds are slightly in Manchester United's favour.

Although I do think Tottenham are a good side.

    FT: Bodo/Glimt 0-2 Tottenham (agg 1-5)

    Tottenham Hotspur

A spiky Ange Postecoglou in his post-match news conference: "What do I care what Man United think? Why is that relevant to me? You know better than me, you follow this club more than I have. What do you think a trophy would do for this club?

"People are fearing that it might actually happen. They're trying to tear it down and diminish it and try to compare us to Man United."
