Chelsea captain Reece James speaking to TNT Sports: "We're happy. We're in another final but it is probably something we excepted coming into the game and we expect to win the competition as well. Winning the trophy would be a huge achievement."

On having a run of games to get back to his best: "I'm enjoying it. I've spent a lot of times on the sidelines and this is probably the longest spell I have spent being healthy in two or three seasons so I'm happy to be playing on a regular basis and helping the team where I can."

On whether the club is going in the right direction: "We are definitely moving in the right direction. We're knocking on the door for Champions League next season, the table is tight and I have no doubts. We had a good result against Liverpool and hopefully we can keep momentum going and finish the season strongly."

On academy players: "It's great to help the young players, they are amazing talents, that's why they are here and I help them where I can."

On Reggie Walsh: "I've seen him in training but training and games is different but this is the first time I have seen him play. I didn't realise how good he actually was."

Spurs defender Micky van de Ven, speaking to TNT Sports: "Unbelievable feeling. What can I say? We had a tough season but we're one game away from winning some silverware.

"We showed some character today, some mentality also. They didn't create any chances today and then we scored two goals and kept a clean sheet. The artificial grass, it's cold and rainy, we showed great mentality to win 2-0.

"We want to thank them all for their support and let's go to Bilbao.

"In the league we're not doing well but we can make it something special."

I am feeling a plethora of happy feelings about tonight as a Man Utd fan: I'm happy in myself; I am happy for the club and the fans; but, most of all, I'm happy for Mason Mount - I can only imagine how difficult it must have been for him since he joined. Mason got plenty to build on tonight. Welcome back!

    FT: Bodo/Glimt 0-2 Tottenham (agg 1-5)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou, speaking to TNT Sports: "Couldn't be prouder of the lads. We knew it was a difficult place to come. We're aware of the record they have here, the pitch. I think the lads handled it well. Excited, we're in a final.

"We've grown in maturity and we understand exactly what's required. I think that's where we won the game. We kept them to a minimum in the first half and did what we needed to do.

"We've used every player in the squad. We've overcome adversity. I felt when we got into the knockout, it helped we got players back.

On the fans: "It's why you do what we do. You understand the context of what this football club has been trying to achieve for quite a while. Managers and players come and go but the supporters are a constant. There were 400 here tonight and maybe a few more snuck in and many more at home. I hope we gave them something to smile about.

"We'll just keep doing what we're doing."

A sad day for football that two PL teams likely to finish 15th or below are now certain of a Champions League place.

  12. 'You'd like to think Utd have more quality than Spurs'published at 22:27 British Summer Time 8 May

FT: Man Utd 4-1 Athletic Bilbao (agg 7-1)

    Phil Jones
Former Manchester United defender on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

When you've got a full squad you've got decisions to make and tough ones. There's no better time to have a full squad a few weeks before the final.

It's never going to be an easy game in a one-off game against Tottenham. You'd like to think Man Utd would have a little more quality to beat them in a final, however, Tottenham have beaten them three times already this season, so who knows?

  13. 'If we don't win the final, it means nothing'published at 22:26 British Summer Time 8 May

FT: Man Utd 4-1 Athletic Bilbao (agg 7-1)

    Manchester United

More from Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, speaking to TNT Sports: "I'm just worried about the next game, trying to not get any injuries for the final. If we don't win the final, it means nothing for us.

"We have to have a full squad [against Tottenham], stay in the game and have a bit of luck and we have to be clinical.

"It's quite similar for me and Ange [Postecoglou]. It is a tough moment [for us both] and one of us is going to win. It's going to be a big final and we will try to win.

"It's hard to describe what it's like to be manager of this club and you want to give them [the fans] something because we were so disappointing in the Premier League. We want to give something to the fans."

An all-English final, a chance for Ange to prove he does win something in year two, for Amorim to prove this United is indeed improving but, most importantly, we get to see who the biggest bottlers are between these two!

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, speaking to TNT Sports: "It's the least we can do for these fans, for the support they have given us in this tough season. I'm stressed already because of the final. If we don't do it, it means nothing, but we're happy to be there so let's see.

"I know I should be a better manager and the team should be better at this moment but we're trying. We did quite well in Europe but we are struggling in the Premier League."

On two-goal Mason Mount: "I'm so happy for him. He is such a player. He works really hard, he has quality. I really like Kobbie Mainoo, just 10 minutes but everything he did was really good and sometimes you're on the bench and can change the game.

"When you see that kind of guy like Mason working hard every day, eating well, having ice baths, when you have this kind of player you just want to help him. He is perfect for this position as he can be a midfielder, but also runs like a winger so I'm really happy for him.

"When you have a full squad you can think about the game. Sometimes we're surviving with people in different positions, but with more options you can change the game and push forwards and these things can help you win games."

The Europa League final will be Manchester United's ninth European final and the sixth for Tottenham.

United most recently lost the 2021 Europa League to Villlarreal on penalties, while Spurs were beaten in the 2019 Champions League by Liverpool.

  17. HALF-TIMEpublished at 22:21 British Summer Time 8 May

Half-time in extra time. Real Betis are 15 minutes away from a Polish showdown with Chelsea.

  18. 'Mount is a wonderful player'published at 22:21 British Summer Time 8 May

FT: Man Utd 4-1 Athletic Bilbao (agg 7-1)

    Phil Jones
Former Manchester United defender on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

I'm delighted for Mason Mount. It's always difficult when you're out for a lengthy spell of time, all you want to do is play football.

He's a lad who works extremely hard. He's a wonderful player, he's proven that for England.

He's got a good goal scoring record, left foot, right foot.

You've got to keep him fit now and has got to look after himself.

  19. 'Goals will do wonders for Mount's confidence'published at 22:20 British Summer Time 8 May

FT: Man Utd 4-1 Athletic Bilbao (agg 7-1)

    Izzy Christiansen
Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

If I could pick Mason Mount up and put him in a position where I think you get the best from him, I think it's the 10 position.

He just needs rhythm, consistency of games. He needs a spell where he's injury free and he can enjoy his football.

There's nothing better than seeing a player do well off the back of a series of setbacks and the facts he's banged two in, in a European semi-final will do wonders for his confidence.

He was smiling and happy and that's such a good thing to see.
