  2. 'We did the basics right'published at 22:58 BST 26 August

    FT: Bournemouth 0-2 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford manager Keith Andrews, speaking to the media after his side's win:

"We defended amazingly well again and did the basics of the game that I feel will get you results. We came up with two good goals.

"The reality is there's probably been a narrative around the club in recent weeks and months, which I understand to a point because of the departures of staff and players.

"But people don't realise what goes on on a day-to-day basis."

  3. 'A step backwards'published at 22:57 BST 26 August

    Bournemouth 0-2 Brentford

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, speaking to BBC Radio Solent after his side lost 2-0 to Brentford:

"We haven't been at the level required by the competition. If you want to go far in this competition you have to give a lot, and we haven't been ourselves.

"We came in off two very good games but today has been a step backwards. We changed a lot of the team, and when it doesn't work I am the first one to blame."

  4. 'Win shows me the culture is very strong'published at 22:53 BST 26 August

FT: Sheff Weds 1-1 Leeds (3-0 on pens)

    Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen, speaking to Sky Sports on how he feels: "Proud. Really, really proud. How they stayed together, I'm just proud.

"Yesterday we trained our defensive stuff, our 5-3-2 and our goal kicks and high press, but we didn't use it much. The tactical discipline the boys had today was incredible. On a day like today we need a bit of luck and we had a fantastic goalkeeper."

On if he was surprised with how his young side performed: "It could be easy to say no, I'm not surprised but of course they stepped up so much in a game like this, nobody could see that, so big respect to our boys."

On the feeling in the dressing room: "They are proud and the senior players are very proud of the young players and the players who were not in the squad were here to support the players. The biggest smile was from the senior players because they are proud of the young guys."

On if this win gives him hope: "It gives me not only hope but belief. How we are together off the pitch and on the pitch, it's a good, strong group. It's shown me that the culture is very strong and gives me belief."

  5. 'I changed the team too much'published at 22:50 BST 26 August

    FT: Bournemouth 0-2 Brentford

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, speaking to BBC Radio Solent after his side lost 2-0 at home to Brentford:

"I changed the team too much. There are a lot of players who still have to grow and improve, get more ready for the level we demand from them.

"It's difficult because you want to give minutes to players but we have to continue competing. We have to do it like this, there is no other way. We are past pre-season so every trial has consequences. Today we did not collectively play well.

"I hate it when you are out of a competition and don't have the chance to progress and give more minutes to other players."

Football is a simple game, 22 men chase a ball around the pitch, and in the end, Brentford always win.

  7. 'It's like a little pre-season for DCL'published at 22:47 BST 26 August

FT: Sheff Weds 1-1 Leeds (3-0 on pens)

    Leeds United

Leeds boss Daniel Farke on Dominic Calvert-Lewin missing chances and his penalty: "Three chances he had in the game. I am happy he has the chances as he shows his instinct again. For him it is like a little pre-season. He desperately needed minutes today to build up his fitness."

    What a performance.

What a story for the young Sheffield Wednesday players. They took Leeds United all the way. A tie at full-time and then on penalties when you need the experience of Barry Bannan, Liam Palmer, they stepped up and didn't disappoint.

There was just a feeling, a really hazy awe inside the stadium tonight and it's strange. The few Sheffield Wednesday fans that were here witnessed something really, really special. A togetherness, a unity.

The problem is Leeds will get all the headlines for how poor they were, they didn't win a game they should've won.

But Sheffield Wednesday deserve all the headlines tonight for the way they played.

    Leeds United

Leeds boss Daniel Farke, speaking to Sky Sports: "Congratulations to Sheffield Wednesday.

"A Premier League side is the favourite and the Championship side is more or less the underdog. It was just this type of football game where we had more than 85% possession.

"Somehow they managed to be one time in our box, and somehow they have scored. Yes, we have simply missed too many chances.

"I have never seen Joel Piroe miss a penalty, but he is the first one that goes and misses. It happens sometimes in football. Sometimes this type of game is written in the stars. They have fought very hard and somewhat deserve to be in the second half.

"They're all professional football players and it is not like we played an under-21 side. We were the favourite today, there is no doubt about it, but this happens quite often in a cup game."

Before the game it was a free hit for Sheffield Wednesday. You look at the team, there was eight teenagers in the team, an incredibly young side.

There's an incredible story going on at the club at the moment. A lot of supporters decided not to come to the stadium but actually stood in solidarity with the ones who did.

They finally took a stand and didn't want the owner, and club to be run the way it was.

The supporters are standing together, the players are standing together and that performance tonight was the epitome of togetherness.
