The relationship between the manager and director of football has to be bang on. If Arsenal now go and bring someone in at all, then you feel like Arteta could be undermined.

After not winning their last three games, does it add fuel to the fire that Arteta doesn't have control upstairs?

  2. 'It is Arteta's show'published at 07:52 Greenwich Mean Time

In 2020, they changed Arteta's title from head coach to manager. Once they become that, their influence starts to creep into other areas.

It is now very much a club shaped by Arteta. In a footballing sense, it is his show. I don't think there was any real tension between Edu and Arteta, or blazing arguments from what you'd expect.

In a high-pressured environment, people fall out. Edu may have looked at it as the footballing department answering to Arteta, seeing the power of a sporting director reduced.

Maybe he wants to go somewhere with more influence?

You can read more about Edu's departure from his role as sporting director at Arsenal in Alex Howell's report on the BBC Sport website.

Edu said on Monday that "this was an incredibly hard decision to make," but added: "Now it is time to pursue a different challenge. Arsenal will always remain in my heart. I wish the club and its supporters only good things and all the very best."

The Brazilian's reported link with a new role as part of Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis's football group, and what his departure from Arsenal could mean for the club, was a topic of discussion on the Monday Night Club.

Liverpool are also in Champions League duty tonight at home to German champions Bayer Leverkusen.

The Mirror has a story on manager Arne Slot's quotes about Mohamed Salah, who caused concerns over his future at the club after posting on X after Saturday's home win over Brighton that "no matter what happens I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like".

The 32-year-old's current contract with Liverpool runs out in the summer, but Slot said that he is not concerned about the social media post, adding: "For me what is important is how he plays and what he tells me when we have conversations. That is what matters and not how you guys interpret one of his posts."

The Telegraph also leads with that story on Edu, reporting that the former Arsenal sporting director will "double" his wages with the Marinakis group after "Forest coup".

The main picture, however, is of Sporting manager Ruben Amorim laughing, alongside his quotes saying that he expects to be compared with Sir Alex Ferguson if he can mastermind a victory for his Sporting side against Manchester City in the Champions League tonight.

It will be Amorim's final home game as Sporting manager before he takes up a new job as Manchester United boss next week.

    The Daily Mail

The Mail reports that Edu is in talks over fronting Nottingham Forest Evangelos Marinakis's multi-club operation after resigning from his role as sporting director at Arsenal.

A player for the club's "Invincibles" side, which won the 2003/04 Premier League title without losing a game, the 46-year-old former Brazil midfielder returned to Arsenal as sporting director five years ago.

His close working relationship with manager Mikel Arteta helped to rejuvenate the club's fortunes and provided the platform that saw them run Manchester City close in the title race over the past two seasons.

It was quite the finale at Craven Cottage as Harry Wilson proved the difference in a west London derby between two sides that have enjoyed decent starts to their Premier League campaigns.

Victory moved the Cottagers up to ninth place and in touch with the sides in the European places.

Defensive fragilities cost 12-placed Brentford again as Thomas Frank's side made it 14 points lost from winning positions this season as they failed to keep a clean sheet for a 12th consecutive match.

We have reaction from both camps coming up.

Substitute Harry Wilson stunned Brentford with two injury-time goals as Fulham came from behind to snatch the points at Craven Cottage.

Brentford's Vitaly Janelt had earlier scored a superb opener worthy of winning any match, powering his shot in from 25 yards in the first half.

But Wilson came on with eight minutes remaining and acrobatically flicked the ball with the outside of his boot over goalkeeper Mark Flekken to score his first, before stooping low to head in the shock winner in the 97th minute.
