Blackburn Rovers made it six wins on the bounce as they beat Luton Town at Ewood Park.

Two goals in eight late first-half minutes for John Eustace's side set the Hatters on the way to a seventh straight away defeat.

And the visitors' fate was all but sealed by a 73rd -minute red card for midfielder Liam Walsh for a challenge on Yuki Ohashi.

Both Rovers goals were scored by their two Premier League loan players, Brighton's Amario Cozier-Duberry and Liverpool's Owen Beck.

Teenage midfielder Cozier-Duberry, signed on August deadline day, was making his first start - and he marked it in style when he struck on 32 minutes.

Senegal striker Makhtar Gueye did the hard work, beating his man before picking out the 19-year-old, who took a touch before firing in on the turn.

The goal was followed on 40 minutes by fellow midfielder Beck's first in senior English football, his only previous strikes having come in successive Saturdays on loan in the Scottish Premier with Dundee just over a year ago.

Ohashi got in around the back, Luton could only half-clear his cross - and Beck timed his run to place home the rebound.

The game was then up for Luton when, just 11 minutes after coming on for Tom Krauss, substitute Walsh was given a straight red for an ugly challenge on Ohashi.

Walsh was also sent off in the 2-2 home draw with Oxford United at the start of October, so his latest indiscretion will add a game to his automatic three-game ban, making it a four-match suspension. He cannot play now until 6 January.

The last player to be sent off twice as a sub in a single league campaign was Jermaine Beckford for Preston North End in the Championship in 2016-17.

Who's next?

Luton's final game before the Christmas fixtures is at home to Derby County next Friday night, followed then by the Boxing Day trip to Bristol City.

Blackburn return to action next Saturday at managerless Millwall before successive Christmas home games against high-flying Sunderland and curretn backmarkers Hull City.

Post-match reaction

Blackburn Rovers boss John Eustace:

"Amario Cozier-Duberry was outstanding. It was a brilliant performance from the young lad. He's been training very well.

"He was close to starting probably four to five weeks ago before he got injured. But that first half he was virtually unplayable and he cored a great goal.

"What is the most pleasing thing for me is he's an exciting player with the ball but he doesn't half work hard without the ball as well. That's something we have to have in this football team. We have Toddy Cantwell doing the same. He's an excellent player with the ball but he's doing the work without the ball as well.

"Owen Beck's a top player. We're really lucky to have him here. Top young player, learning his trade. His attitude is fantastic, he's got good experience behind him with Harry Pickering so he's growing and improving all the time."

Luton Town manager Rob Edwards:

"Away from home, we quietened the crowd. They got a bit more of the ball but did not create too much.

"We showed a threat, had a couple of set-pieces, we were fine. Then one missed clearance in the build up to the first goal. The ball down the side – whether we need to put it out or not, I don't know.

"We don't deal with the throw-in, a missed tackle. Loads of bodies around in the box, we don't deal with Cozier-Duberry, and it's in the back of the net. Really poor defending of the box.

"We had a decent reaction after the first goal, when we go on the front foot again and then another ball down the side that we don't play offside, or certainly not in that moment, we haven't matched the run, so an easy ball down the side. It's almost a gift and at 2-0, it's a huge uphill task for us."
