Lewis Smith curled in a brilliant strike for Livingston

Livingston earned their first Scottish Premiership win of the season with a clinical display against fellow promoted side Falkirk.

John McGlynn's men started brightly and racked up a series of chances as they dominated the early stages.

However, it was Livingston who made the most of their first meaningful attack as Robbie Muirhead found Scott Pittman who tapped in from close range.

Lewis Smith doubled the hosts' advantage, finishing off a slick team move by firing a superb strike into the top corner.

Muirhead was unable to extend the hosts' lead further as Scott Bain kept out his penalty after Liam Henderson was penalised for a handball.

Ross MacIver's header gave Falkirk hope, but the points were wrapped up for Livingston when Jeremy Bokila ran clear and found the far corner.

What was the main talking point?

Having won three of the two sides' four meetings last season it was a case of deja vu with Livingston victorious over their former Championship title rivals.

Falkirk had shown a lot of fight in their draw against Dundee United last weekend but, despite a positive start, the away side faded dramatically after Pittman gave Livingston the lead.

McGlynn's insistence on giving the players that got his side to the top flight the chance to chance to perform in the division seems to be biting him already.

When his team needed more to get back into the game his only viable attacking options on the bench were Brian Graham and Scott Arfield. The duo have a combined age of 73.

By contrast, David Martindale appears to have recruited shrewdly with the likes of Mo Sylla, Graham Carey and Shane Blaney added.

It's early days but with those additions and some quality experience in their ranks, Livingston look set for a pleasing campaign so far.

Which players stood out?

Despite not playing the full 90 minutes, Lewis Smith looked lively throughout his time on the park, capping off some smart touches with his exquisite curled strike.

For Falkirk, Calvin Miller looked the most likely to create throughout the game. The winger's delivery from set plays was consistently a threat and eventually lead to MacIver finding the net with his looping header.

What they said

Livingston manager David Martindale told BBC Scotland: "I thought it was a really good professional performance. There was a lot of different aspects to it.

"We had to try and play at times, but the first half there was a swirling wind and it was really difficult to get out our own half. So Falkirk kind of had the majority of the play but we came up with two brilliant goals.

"I thought the first one was a great team goal and the second one was still a good bit of team play there, but it's a great finish from [Lewis Smith]."

Falkirk manager John McGlynn told BBC Scotland: "Obviously we're a little bit disappointed. I thought we started the game really, really well. The goalkeepers made a couple of good saves.

"Dylan [Tait] had a header that maybe he should have scored with. I'm not sure if he was offside or not. So in the opening 18 minutes, until Livingston scored, I thought we were the better team.

"I thought we lost our way a little bit. Our passing wasn't as good. A little bit of anxiety crept in. And then [Lewis] Smith scored a worldie right on half-time, which gave us a little bit of a mountain to climb.

"There's going to be bumps in the road for us. We have to stick together and we have to understand that. Not many teams are going to find it easy coming here to Livingston. Fair play to them. They deserved to win. They've got the goals."

What is next for these teams?

Both sides are in League Cup action, with Livingston facing Hibernian at home on Sunday, 17 August (15:00 BST) while Falkirk travel to Celtic Park on Friday, 15 August (19:45 BST).
