Stuart McKinstry's second-half winner means Hamilton Academical leapfrog visitors Dunfermline Athletic, who are now three points behind in the relegation play-off spot in the Scottish Championship.
Dunfermline's Lewis McCann and David Wotherspoon had attempts saved, while Lewis McCann went close.
But Accies' Scott Robinson also had a couple of efforts saved, while Oli Shaw was just off target before the latter set up McKinstry for a drive into the bottom corner from outside the penalty box.
That was enough to secure only a second win in eight outings for the hosts, while Dunfermline have gone five games without a win.
