The home fans are here in their numbers too and so far are getting right behind their team with plenty of noise.

Rocking up to Livingston today in the knowledge this ground is no longer known as the 'Spaghetti-head' is devastating.

Ross County managed to save themselves in the play-off final last season - like they did the term before.

If they’re to avoid that trauma all over again they’re going to have to arrest their awful away results. They played 19 on the road and won only one of them.

They failed to score in 10 of the 19 and took only nine points from a possible 57. If Don Cowie manages to improve the away form then County will be just fine.

The signing of Ronan Hale from Cliftonville looks a good start. The striker is off to a flyer.

Lanarkshire is bathed in sunshine for this one as the players warm up below me ahead of their opening league fixture.

The pitch here as ever is looking tremendous and Motherwell will be hoping to take advantage of their home surface as they look to find improvements from their league cup showing last weekend.

Ross County will no doubt relish the playing surface too, and they come here in good form, having won all their league cup group games in convincing style.

  19. Kettlewell plays down 'pure anger' remarkpublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 3 August

    Motherwell v Ross County (15:00)

    Stuart KettlewellImage source, SNS

Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell tells BBC Scotland: "I speak my mind, I'm not going to watch a performance I'm not happy with and try and kid the supporters on.

"Equal to that, it gets blown out of proportion. We live in a day and age when that becomes a drama. I work with an honest group and they weren't happy either, and they don't mind being called out either.

"We've had a lot of challenges. We were dealt another blow last night with some injury news. That makes it difficult but it's not an excuse. We've faced it before.

"Sam Nicholson has missed a period of time already. He was almost back but he felt something else in his knee. Sam gives us a creative edge so that's a blow."

  20. 'We've created really competitive squad' - Cowiepublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 3 August

    Don CowieImage source, SNS

Ross County manager Don Cowie tells BBC Scotland: "We're all excited.

"It's going to be a really difficult game but we feel confident we can perform to the best of our ability and get the result we're looking for.

"We've lost a few key players from last year, there's no secret about that, but we have a good core still at the club.

"We've added really well and I'm delighted with the new players that have come in.

"We're in a really good place. Anything could happen in the next few weeks, players starting to feel anxious about where they fit in, but I want to create a really competitive squad and we've managed to do that.

"We want to stay in the league and then beyond that it's about what we can achieve."
