I bet Kevin Mac Allister wishes he was home alone with that type of deflection.

    Better from Union again.

Promise David twists and turns inside the box to win another corner, again it's headed out to the edge of the box and again Adem Zorgane gets a shot on goal.

Not the cleanest strike but Nick Pope has to push the bobbling ball around the post.

Goals have not exactly been flowing for Newcastle United in the Premier League.

But the visitors were pushing for that opener - and they have got their reward.

Union are far from out of this, though. There was a huge roar when the Belgian champions won a corner and they carry a threat at set-plays.

Newcastle will need to stay switched on.

    Encouragement for Union.

They move the ball quickly, back to front, to find Promise David in space on the left.

His cross is deflected behind and after the second of two corners, Adem Zorgane fires a shot in from the edge of the box.

Easily saved by Nick Pope, though.

Newcastle continue to push forward after the goal.

Anthony Elanga is causing problems again down the right and his near-post cross is met by Anthony Gordon.

Just too much on it from the England winger, though, and the shot flies past the post.

I think I said it about five minutes ago about getting the ball into the box but if it's in the vicinity of Woltemade, he's going to go for it.

You can see that Tonali is over the moon with that. It is now about game management, Newcastle can't sit back, they have been brilliant in the first quarter of an hour.

    It had been coming!

Good ball whipped in by Anthony Elanga but the header away is only to the edge of the box and Sandro Tonali meets it on the volley.

His side-footed effort is on target but the deflection is all important, off Kevin Mac Allister, to wrong-foot the goalkeeper.

Eddie Howe likes to have a few things up his sleeves. Maybe Newcastle will come up with something here.

Two corners in quick succession are dealt with by Union Saint-Gilloise but the Belgians just can't get out at the moment.

Dan Burn's long throw from the left drops on the six-yard line and is poked behind for another corner.

  11. Postpublished at 13 mins

    Union Saint-Gilloise 0-0 Newcastle

Sandro Tonali whips the ball in but it's flicked behind for a corner by a Union defender.

Another chance for Tonali but this time he hits the first man.

A better cross follows, it's punched to the edge of the box and Joelinton lashes his shot over the bar.

  13. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Union Saint-Gilloise 0-0 Newcastle

The game is just beginning to settle and while it looks like Newcastle will have the bulk of possession, Union are not just going to sit back.

Sebastien Pocognoli's side are looking to press the visitors all over the pitch.

  14. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Union Saint-Gilloise 0-0 Newcastle

More nice, intricate play from Newcastle after the referee plays advantage following a foul on Anthony Elanga.

It ends with a cross that it headed and loops up. An easy catch for the keeper, surely?

No, Kjell Scherpen opts to punch and Newcastle regain possession. Odd choice with no pressure on him.

  15. 'Experience is needed' for Newcastlepublished at 17:52 BST 1 October

    Union Saint-Gilloise 0-0 Newcastle

I think the experience is going to be needed tonight for Newcastle, in terms of quietening the stadium down.

Half a chance for the hosts.

Anouar Ait El Hadj puts a corner in from the right for Union Saint-Gilloise, the initial delivery is headed back towards the near post by a combination of Newcastle and Union players.

Kevin Rodriguez is alert to it but heads just over the top.

Sharp passing around the right corner of the box from Newcastle to create space for Anthony Elanga.

The winger's shot is blocked but nicely played by the visitors in the build-up.
