Josh Sargent (right) leads the celebrations for Norwich City after his second-half equaliser against Hull City
Josh Sargent grabbed his fifth goal in five games as Norwich City came from behind to earn an away point against relegation-threatened Hull City.
The in-form USA international showed typical quality in front of goal to draw the Canaries level two minutes after the restart, racing to the near post and glancing home a header from Kellen Fisher's cross.
Norwich, beaten by Preston North End in midweek, had been second best for much of the opening 45 minutes and could easily have been further behind than the solitary goal, a thumping close-range shot from Matt Crooks.
But the visitors, who are now four points off the Championship play-off places, improved after the interval, showing greater urgency and looking more threatening following Sargent's confidence-boosting leveller.
And they should have taken all three points for a first win in three league games but top scorer Borja Sainz somehow hit the post from close range and then saw his follow up deflected wide.
The strong Norwich finish was in contrast to a meek opening in which the hosts did most of the running.
Joe Gelhardt had already forced a fine stop from Canaries keeper Angus Gunn before Crooks scored his second goal for the Tigers since joining from Real Salt Lake in January, the midfielder gleefully slamming home Lewie Coyle's excellent pull-back from the right.
Norwich responded, with Manchester City loanee Jacob Wright drilling their first noteworthy effort wide, and Sainz being thwarted by home keeper Ivor Pandur as he ran on to a ball over the top.
And Sargent's swift leveller on the resumption stopped Hull from securing an eighth league win in 32 games this season, but they remain a point and a place above the relegation zone with Derby County, Plymouth Argyle and Luton Town all losing this weekend.
Hull City head coach Ruben Selles:
"Every point is gold for us in the situation that we are in.
"We have an argument that we could get three points but the opposition had a few chances. I think the game was competitive, the game was equal, and the point is probably fair for everyone.
"We want to always get three points but recent experiences like today have not got any points – and today we got the point. It's put us a little bit closer to the target and we will build from there.
"We scored the goal. But sometimes you play against an opponent that starts to connect a little bit better – and that pushed us backwards. The goal early in the second half meant we had to restart again. But after that we managed the game well."
Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup told BBC Radio Norfolk:
"With the bad start to the game, we still created enough situations in the second half that we can expect to score the winning goal.
"From minute 15 to minute 90 I am pleased with the performance in many ways. We had good control.
"We had a good flow and a good rhythm and created a lot of situations, and I am a little bit sad for the boys because we didn't get the second goal we deserved.
"It looked like we didn't get the pressing right in the first part of the game, and we changed after they scored and we started to create."
