Leeds travel to Middlesbrough needing points to get their automatic promotion push back on track after two defeats in their past three.

Another loss for the Whites would, improbably, open the door for Leicester to secure promotion on Tuesday when they host Southampton.

Huge conclusion to matters in the second tier this campaign.

Wednesday midfielder Will Vaulks told Sky Sports: "It was a battle, it wasn't one for the purists, it was about winning - there was a lot of pressure on this game, especially having sat there watching the results come in yesterday afternoon.

"It felt like a home game with the fans there and the lads at the back, everyone to a man turned up today – it was a massive result in what was obviously a big game for us."

On his 400th appearance for the club Wednesday skipper Barry Bannan told Sky Sports the 7,000 travelling fans had inspired his team to victory.

He said: "I've been here nine years, it doesn't surprise me - they are amazing. That's for them as well as us, they have followed us through thick and thin."

"I’ve got many more in me," he added.

"This result adds to the confidence but nothing is done today. It’s one job done but we’ll get back to work because we know how big next week is."

With two games of the season remaining, SEVEN teams are still in with a mathematical chance of going down.

Stoke and QPR have points on the board and will feel much better about themselves than they did going into this weekend.

But with Birmingham at Huddersfield next weekend, no one else can remotely feel safe.

Hopefully Rovers can get a result against Coventry next week because we don't want to let the home fans down like this again.

It could have gone either way. When you go 1-0 down after six minutes it's tough. They got back into it but Wednesday found their feet and the game petered out with a lot of mistakes. Blackburn didn't really turn up in the second half and Wednesday did.

Blackburn made the mistakes, Wednesday did not, that's the disappointment.

What a difference two days makes.

Some huge results down at the bottom end of the table have left things looking like this.

Wednesday's great escape looks well and truly on and two more wins in their final matches will secure survival.

Blackburn would have been clear of danger with a win but they remain right in it, despite having not spent a single day in the bottom three all season.

It's pretty much between them, Plymouth, Wednesday, Birmingham and Huddersfield for who joins Rotherham in League One next season.

Blues visit the Terriers on Saturday, where a defeat for Town would send them down.

For the first time all season we are out...

It's been immense - the support, the performance, every single person has played their part. It's one of those days where everything has gone right for Wednesday.

What a difference in the second half, big, big character and a big performance.

It's a massively tough game next Saturday but they all are, and Wednesday have responded big time.

MASSIVE win for Sheffield Wednesday as they look to avoid the drop.

The Owls will finish a day out of the relegation zone for the first time since August.

The game got off to a rip-roaring start when Josh Windass capitalised on a lax clearing header from Rovers keeper Aynsley Pear, more of him shortly, to lob in a tremendous opener.

Sammie Szmodics quickly made it 1-1 with his 31st of the season before the rest of the half went flat.

The away side went back into the lad from Marvin Johnson's cool finish and Pears' day went from bad to VERY bad when he sliced a back pass from Dom Hyam into his own net.

Rovers are just three points above the bottom three with two games to play.

Wednesday are four unbeaten and finally, finally are out of the bottom three.

Can they stay there now?

The Wednesday fans chant "we are staying up".

Seven thousand Owls fans made the journey across to Lancashire today and they will be enjoying their trip home.

Dylan Markanday does well down the Rovers right but his cross is cut out.

Blackburn were fractionally better in the first half, I don't know what Danny Rohl said at half-time but.. they've gotten better and better.

They got a bit of luck with the third goal but Wednesday have deserved it and earned it.

Damaging defeat this for Blackburn.

They'd probably shaded this match up until Wednesday broke away to make it 2-1 and the comedy* own goal from Aynsley Pears took any remaining wind out of their sails.

Just eight days on from a superb 1-0 win at Leeds there is a very different feeling for Rovers today.

They're three points clear of the bottom three with two games to go.

*Not for him.

This will be four games unbeaten for Wednesday as they move out of the bottom three for the first time in eight months.

This is also the first time they've scored three goals in an away game this season.

I mean, one for them was scored for them but they all count...

Will Vaulks goes for goal from the free-kick and Aynsley Pears does well to keep it out.

Vaulks is then booked for stopping the home side breaking way.

Blackburn defender Dom Hyam is booked for crashing into Djeidi Gassama after the home side had given the ball away so cheaply 40 yards from their own goal.

There have been a lot of injuries across the course of this match it has to be said so perhaps not a massive shock to see so many minutes added on.

Nonetheless, Wednesday fans will have been hoping for quite a few less than that.

ELEVEN minutes of time added on.

Wednesday almost but not quite on the verge of a win that will see them move out of the bottom three.

Just not going to be Blackburn's day this.

Dylan Markanday does well to create a yard of space to get a cross in in the area.

Marvin Johnson gets the block on and the ball hits Markanday and goes out for a goalkick to the hosts.

Blackburn make a triple change of their own.
