Well, we said bring your Sunday best... and Portsmouth certainly did that.

A day which will live long in the memory for the Blues fans who rolled back the years to make Fratton Park feel like the fortress it was in decades past and make illustrious opposition wither in the warm spring sunshine.

After one point from a possible six saw their five-point lead at the top wiped-out in the space of eight days, you just know Leeds fans and players will be feeling the bitter sting of hearing that Joy Division chant over the days and weeks to come.

It couldn't happen again... could it?

We don't have long to wait to find out, we're back here on Tuesday night for the start of a full programme of midweek Championship action, with Sheffield United looking to go three points clear at the top and Burnley seeking to snatch the second automatic promotion place off Leeds, who play Millwall on Wednesday, the same night Portsmouth welcome Plymouth along the south coast for a game which could all-but end their chances of being dragged into the relegation scrap.

There's a full midweek programme, including both these sides, as the battle at both ends of the table approaches the business end.

Leeds, as we mentioned, might have dropped to third by the time they host Millwall on Wednesday - should Burnley and Sheffield United both win 24 hours earlier.

Portsmouth

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho reflects on the performance of his side after the game, telling BBC Sport:

"We were superb, for the goal, the performance, it was all excellent.

"I can't pick anyone out that was below standard, it was really deserved as well I thought, I'm thrilled we got the three points because that will give us so much confidence going forward.

"We defended really well and limited Leeds to very few chances, I'm really pleased for Colby (Bishop), it was a really good finish."

Leeds boss Daniel Farke was magnanimous in defeat, telling Sky Sports: "Congratulations to Portsmouth. It was an important win for them.

"We are disappointed we have lost. We knew it would be a tough game. We knew no team had won more points at home this year than Portsmouth. It was as we expected.

"We had one-on-ones with the keeper, missed chances, hit the bar - you have to take your chances. In terms of expected goals we were by far the better side.

"We allowed Bishop to run into the channel. it was a very easy goal. Perhaps not as easy as our chances, but he scored his. They were more effective and we have to congratulate them."

Farke joked Leeds would probably have missed the 'clear penalty' he felt his side should have had for a first-half foul on Dan James, such was the day they had in front of goal.

"It was a penalty. It was a key moment and a clear penalty," he said. "On a day like this when we miss so many chances maybe we'd have missed the penalty.

"Sometimes you have a day when everything comes together, on others not. We have to accept it. It was not our day. We had enough chances to win the game.

"I thought for such a difficult away game we created five or six good chances. We allowed them one chance with poor defending, we have to be honest."

I don't think it is going to take too many looks to decide what we thought about it [the penalty incident when Matt Ritchie challenged Dan James in the first half].

It looked like a penalty in normal time, Portsmouth don't clear the ball and Matt Ritchie's challenge is just badly timed.

Dan James clearly gets there first and there is just contact through the back of the leg and it is a stonewall penalty.

Pompey boss John Mousinho paid tribute to match-winner Colby Bishop, telling Sky Sports: "Colby has been incredible since the first minute I walked into the building.

"Coming back from major heart surgery, somehow coming back two months early, he's made a huge contribution to this season.

"When you take into account what he's been through this season, it's even better."

Mousinho won't relax, despite a 10-point lead over the drop-zone with 10 points to come, with big games against Plymouth on Wednesday and Preston to come next weekend before the international break.

"The message to the lads is they can enjoy today but the mentality of athletes is we need to go again, he said.

"I don't think there's any time to breathe. We can enjoy this afternoon but we'll be straight back on it tomorrow morning and until we're safe, we'll stay on it."

In the Championship, when you are in that league you just look at that 50 points and that's all you concentrate on. You don't relax until you get there.

Sorry for the reminder, Leeds fans, but the Whites won just three of their final 11 games last season to miss automatic promotion by six points, eventually losing in the play-off final.

They have taken one point from their past two games, have seen a 17-match unbeaten streak ended and are now top on goal difference alone.

With Sheffield United and Burnley both in action on Tuesday night, 24 hours before Leeds, Daniel Farke's men could find themselves in third place when they next kick a ball.

As for Pompey, 10 points clear of trouble with 10 games to go already feels healthy, but Plymouth head to Fratton Park on Wednesday which might allow them to strengthen their hand even further.

Match-winner Colby Bishop also paid tribute to keeper Nicolas Schmid who produced a string of fine saves to keep Leeds at bay,

He told ITV Sport: "We know Leeds are that good, but we back ourselves to make people make mistakes, it’s hard to keep going but you have to.

"(Schmid) has saved us in a few games this year, obviously we’re underdogs, some of the saves, absolutely brilliant. I'll be thanking him after."

With a 10-point lead over the drop zone and a game against basement-boys Plymouth to come on Wednesday, Bishop added: "We’re not relaxing, anyone can beat anyone in this league, as you’ve seen today."

Portsmouth

Pompey match-winner Colby Bishop told ITV: "For me that’s personally the best win since I have been here. It means a lot to beat a team like that with those players."

Bishop beat Illan Meslier to the ball to poke the winning goal in from an angle off the far post and admitted: "I didn’t think I was going to get there but luckily it went in. I thought he (the keeper) is going to come and can I nick a penalty? But he didn’t come so I thought just get it on target."

Bishop missed the start of the season after undergoing a heart procedure and said: "When you go through something like I did and the support I got every day – I can’t speak highly enough of the people in this city.

"Walking in from the car park you feel like nobody is going to come here and win."

Even if Leeds had got something out of that game it would have been an injustice because that second half, Portsmouth were incredible in and out of possession.

The goalkeeper, in big moments, is there to do his job and we saw that with the Byram header late on and the Piroe save in the first half.

Portsmouth, for me, were worthy winners today.

The atmosphere today was incredible, you could see the players feeding off that.

Portsmouth captain Marlon Pack told ITV:

"We knew the atmosphere would be good, we had to use that as fuel. We had to ride our luck at times and Nico was brilliant in goal.

"If you can't play in that atmosphere where can you play? It's an intimidating place to come. Them being that 12th man really drove us on, especially at the end when a bit of fatigue sneaks in."

Pompey are now 10 points clear of the drop zone with 10 games to play, the first of which is against bottom-club Plymouth on Wednesday.

"The club have gone through some tough times, there's still a lot of work to do, a lot of points to play for, but we have put ourselves in a good position," Pack said. "We'll enjoy this one but then we have an even bigger game to come on Wednesday and our full focus is on that.

"If we can retain our Championship status it would mean even more to me than winning League One last season."

Based on the second half it was fully deserved.

The leaders have been toppled. Their 17-game unbeaten run is over.

Colby Bishop's angled finish past Illan Meslier just after the hour has earned Portsmouth a famous win to go 10-points clear of the drop-zone.

The visitors will feel they should have had a penalty for a foul on Dan James before the break, while Joel Piroe missed two glorious chances, James another, and Junior Firpo hit the bar.

Pompey keeper Nicolas Schmid will have earned himself a place in folklore with a string of good saves, not least from Sam Byram's header in the dying seconds.

Pompey were good value for the points, however, causing Leeds untol problems and striking the woodwork themselves through the effervescent Josh Murphy.

Leeds, whisper it, could be out of the automatic promotion places come Tuesday night.
