Club officials have been doing interviews with media partners in anticipation for a huge occasion and many fans arrived early to take in these Premier League surroundings despite the long journey from Cumbria.

The match draws close and Chelsea have put out a strong team given the well-publicised size of their squad.

Barrow sporting director Iain Wood, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live: "I'm a little bit nervous. It's a massive game. We are on a good run at the moment and we are going to a place that could give us a bit of a shock today but hopefully, we put a good performance in.

"A lot of people would say that if we went to Chelsea tonight and didn't get a good result it derail us a bit but it's a bit early in the season so we are just looking forward to it tonight."

This is only Tom Cleverley's 18th game as Watford manager.

The former Manchester United and England star was initially apppointed on an interim basis in March, before being given the job permanently the following month.

He has already outlasted Claudio Ranieri, Rob Edwards and Chris Wilder in the Hornets hot seat and equals Roy Hodgson's tenure tonight.

After starting the campaign with five straight wins in all competitions, Watford's are currently on a three-match winless streak.

Pep Guardiola is already impressed by the 35-year-old.

"Tom Cleverley is doing an amazing job as manager, so it will be great to go up against him," Guardiola says in his programme notes.

"It's clear from the way his team are playing that he is a very, very good manager."

  4. 'Big test' for Cleverley's Watfordpublished at 19:18 British Summer Time 24 September

Man City v Watford (19:45 BST)

This match does not come at a good time for Watford and their manager Tom Cleverley. Or maybe it does?

The former Manchester United player's side suffered a 4-1 defeat by Norwich at the weekend in the Championship - their heaviest defeat since Cleverley took charge in April - and now face the prospect of the Premier League champions at Etihad Stadium.

But Cleverley says it's a good time to "wipe the memory" of the Norwich game and move on.

"You don’t dwell on that result. And it’s not been an ideal preparation for them [Manchester City], and I think they’ll have to make 11 changes.

"I would assume they will change their entire team, it’s just not physically possible to play a big game against Inter last week, big game against Arsenal, huge game against Newcastle this coming weekend, and to ask their players to go again 48 hours after Sunday.

"Whoever they put out, it’ll be a big test for us."

  5. EFL Cup low on Emery's priority listpublished at 19:17 British Summer Time 24 September

Wycombe v Aston Villa (20:00 BST)

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has conceded the Carabao Cup is low among his priorities this season - but insists his side "are going to compete" in the tournament.

"It is clear the priority is the Premier League," said Emery. "Thirty eight matches [and] through it we have to get our first objective - try to be in the top seven and be consistent in playing in Europe.

"The second most difficult is the Champions League and then we have to try to find something important in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

"The FA Cup is maybe more important than the Carabao Cup, but the Carabao Cup is a trophy and we are going to compete.

"Of course I am going to change some players but I am going to prepare a plan to win and to get a good way in this competition. [That's] in case we can get through three matches and get an opportunity to fight for a trophy."

  8. Is Duran the ultimate impact sub?published at 19:12 British Summer Time 24 September

Wycombe v Aston Villa (20:00 BST)

Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran has scored four goals in five Premier League matches this season, all of them as a substitute.

Tonight he finally gets his reward with a place in the starting XI.

The Colombian has scored winners against West Ham, Leicester and Everton in this campaign and on Saturday, as a substitute, added his side's third in a 3-1 win over rivals Wolves.

Duran is well on his way to becoming the player with the most winning goals after starting as a substitute in the Premier League. Seven players share the all-time record of five.

Duran may be finding it difficult to displace star striker Ollie Watkins - who scored 27 goals for Villa last season - and netted his side's equaliser against Wolves.

But, with him banging them in from the bench, Duran is fast becoming the ultimate impact sub.

  9. Team news - Duran starts along with Onanapublished at 19:10 British Summer Time 24 September

Wycombe Wanderers v Aston Villa (20:00 BST)

Wycombe's Josh Scowen makes his 500th career appearance. Beryly Lubala is a former Birmingham City forward while Richard Kone - who scored the winner against Championship club Swansea in the last round - is on the bench.

Subs: George, Grimmer, Harvie, Leahy, McCleary, Humphreys, Kone, McCarthy, Onyedinma.

Ten changes for Aston Villa from the side that started the 3-1 win over Wolves on Saturday, with midfielder Amadou Onana the only survivor.

Jhon Duran finally gets a start after scoring in four of his five substitute appearances in the Premier League this season.

Aston Villa XI: Gauci, Nedeljkovic, Bogarde, Swinkels, Maatsen, Bailey, Onana, Barkley, Young, Buendia, Duran.

Subs: Zych, Diego Carlos, Ramsey, Rowe, Borland, Jimoh-Aloba, Patterson, Moore, Broggio.

  10. Maresca challenges squad members to take opportunitypublished at 19:08 British Summer Time 24 September

    Chelsea v Barrow (19:45 BST)

    Chelsea

England left-back Ben Chilwell’s last competitive appearance was a two-minute cameo in Chelsea’s 1-0 FA Cup semi-final loss to Manchester City on April 20.

He was hampered by hamstring and knee injuries last term and has not started a game since England’s 2-2 friendly draw with Belgium on March 26.

Boss Enzo Maresca has urged his fringe players to make the most of the opportunity against a side sitting 64 places lower in the football pyramid.

“All the players that are not getting so many chances, this is a good chance for them to get minutes and to hopefully win a game," said Maresca

“They are players that train every day very good but unfortunately I cannot give them chances."

Ben Chilwell, who has 21 caps for England and has won the Premier League and Champions League, now can't even get a start for Chelsea against Barrow in the Carabao Cup.

The likes of Cesare Casadei and Renato Veiga are in the squad ahead of him but manager Enzo Maresca was honest that he was surplus to requirements.

Still, he is on the bench and back from exile in the 'bomb squad' - a separate group of players training away from the first-team.

The defender could make his first appearance for Chelsea since April as he makes a match day squad for the first time this season.

  13. Could Rodri injury impact City's trophy hunt?published at 19:02 British Summer Time 24 September

Man City v Watford (19:45 BST)

Manchester City fans wait with baited breath for news on their midfielder Rodri, who is having further tests on the knee injury that looks set to rule him out for an extended period of time.

The 28-year-old travelled to Spain on Monday for initial tests on the injury sustained in the early stages of City's 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Sunday.

Reports suggest it could be a lengthy absence and there are fears he may not return again this season., external

Rodri is one of the favourites to win the Ballon d'Or next month - given to the world's best player - and considered by many to be City's most influential player.

The reigning English champions have not lost in the last 48 Premier League matches in which the Spaniard has started and City lot four out of the five games Rodri missed last season.

As is always the case Pep Guardiola's side will be in the hunt for as many trophies as possible this season, but just how costly could his injury prove to be for their domestic and European trophy hopes?

Sixteen-year-old Kaden Braithwaite makes his senior bow at centre-half for Manchester City this evening.

I saw Braithwaite last Wednesday, playing in the UEFA Youth League defeat to Inter Milan.

He was born in March 2008, which was a couple of months before Manchester United won the Champions League for the third time and five before Sheikh Mansour bought Manchester City.

    That is mad.

It may be a - very large - stretch to say Walsall's name is on the Carabao Cup trophy but their route to the third round has been somewhat miraculous already.

The Saddlers have beaten two League One sides - Exeter and Huddersfield - which is impressive enough but it's the dramatic manner of those wins that raises the eyebrows.

A stoppage-time equaliser preceded a penalty shoot-out win against Exeter, then they came from 2-0 down to beat the 10-man Terriers 3-2 - despite the Saddlers missing normal-time penalties in both games.

But there's a three-division gap to bridge tonight - the difficulty of which clearly illustrated by the fact Premier League side Leicester hammered Walsall's League Two rivals Tranmere 4-0 in round two.

  17. 'It was deeply upsetting'published at 18:54 British Summer Time 24 September

AFC Wimbledon v Newcastle United (postponed to Tuesday, 1 Oct)

AFC Wimbledon Managing Director James Woodroof speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live about the flooding that caused the postponement of Tuesday's tie against Newcastle: "I live locally up the road and we heard the rain overnight. We didn't realise it was going to be to this extent and we got a warning at 3 am when the River Wandle, which is about 300 metres from our stadium, burst its banks and reached unprecedented levels.

"It's been 60 years since the water had reached this level and essentially we were totally overwhelmed by it.

"When we arrived at the site, all the concourses were underwater, as were our museum, our club shop, our changing areas and our tunnel areas.

"And then you see the pitch. It is a remarkable sight and deeply upsetting. It is a serious concern for everyone associated with AFC Wimbledon."

  18. Wimbledon's 'entire stadium' under waterpublished at 18:52 British Summer Time 24 September

We are missing one match from this evening's line-up after Wimbledon's match against Newcastle was postponed following the flooding of their Plough Lane home after the "entire stadium" was left under water.

The club's managing director says 10,000 litres of water has been pumped out of the stadium and the match will instead be played at St James' Park on 1 October.

The pitch at the Cherry Red Records Stadium has suffered "significant damage" after the nearby River Wandle broke its banks on Sunday night, James Woodroof told BBC Radio London.
